Fans forget how difficult it is to win the ultimate prize. So many things can and often do go wrong en route..Latest example? Green Bay..Seattle, if they go on to win it all, will look back(or should) at how EASILY they could have been gone from this..Cherish EVERY SB and stop the damn complaining! :)
the fake holding call which Wilfolk admitted was a flop right before half. Bjack had a 10 yard run, we were dominating with a VERY good chance to go up 17-0 at half. That superbowl was great, but should have been alot less stressful than it was.
What's crazy is that we were able to successfully execute a
Hail Mary just three weeks prior against the Packers. And to me, that seemed like even a longer shot to be successful than the one that Patriots attempted in the Super Bowl.
And I hated the deep pass to Moss in Super Bowl 42 the way the safety was trailing Moss. If it wasn't for Webster, that could have been a TD (but at least close enough for a FG).
You do have to say that both games were nail biters to the end...and isn't that what makes football so great?

But that GREAT last drive by the Giants was weakened in terms of drama by the butt-first TD - plus had the Patriots scored at the end - the TD really would have come back to haunt them instead of just kneeling there.
Still, it has to be a kick in the balls to Belichick and Brady to lose to Coughlin and Manning like that again.

One player i always despised was Danny Ware, and that season it seemed he only came in for one play. Shotgun, Draw. Which I named the DJ Draw.....anyways Coughlin calls for the 2pt conversion after Bradshaw's go aheaad TD...sure enough Theres the Shotgun, and DJ Ware lined up in the backfield. I knew it was coming, everyone knew it was coming.......this is only relevant to me bc of the SB Box I had. I was sitting on Giants 2 and Pats 7......if only he kicked that extra point........Fucking Danny Ware
I wholeheartedly agree with your comment about Steve Smith's catch and run on 3rd and 11. His performance in that game was remarkable, particularly for a rookie who missed so much time early in the season. He recovered the fumble when Bradshaw batted the ball forward. We end up with the penalty and eventually a punt but that was better than a turnover. He batted the ball out of bounds on a pass that Tyree tried to make just before the 3rd and 11 catch. Had he recovered the ball and the refs ruled it a catch/fumble, the clock runs out and the game is over because we had no time outs. IMO he showed he had a very high football IQ in addition to innate talent. His jersey remains the only one I've ever purchased. A shame his injury cut his career so short.
when seeing the replay of the missed hail mary at the end of XLVI, the Norwood missed field goal to end XXV, and the last minute tip away by Webster at the end of XLII. All of them still make my blood pressure go up and a big smile across my face whenever I see or remember them.
However, it is that last one, the two tipped away deep passes to Moss at the end of XLII that scared me the most at the time because I was at that game in the stands behind the endzone that the play was going towards. Especially the first one. The longest 35 Seconds of my life. Seeing Brady get blasted by Alford, then the missed pass to Stallworth were reassuring, but when that next play happened, I nearly shit myself. Brady rolls out untouched and heaves it, I look down to see where he's throwing and there's Moss all alone. I'm like SHIT!!! But at the last minute Webster and Wilson catch up because the pass isn't long enough and they tip it away. What a sigh of relief was heard from my end of the stadium. I needed the paddles to restart my heart. The next heave wasn't as close because Webster & Wilson had Moss blanketed. One of the most awesomely intense moments of my life. I will cherish it always.
It wasn't gonna be easy but Brady had 40 seconds I believe at the end of 42 and only needed a fg. What did he do? He didn't complete a single pass. He went deep over and over again and took a crushing sack from Alford. Maybe another QB makes Alford miss there? Maybe not. Yep. The Alford sack gives folks a false perspective when it comes to that drive. Brady had just taken a three-step drop and was stepping up to throw when Alford blasted him. The drive might have looked very different if he had gotten that pass off and not had to use the Pats' last timeout.

They had a non-call on Chung who interfered with Manningham on 3rd and 10 earlier in the 4th. This was around the time Ballard got injured.
They were moving really well then too, and it was still 17-15 then.

That was such an awesome play. I remember one commentator saying it was the greatest effort he had ever seen by one player on one play.
Another big play in XXV was Meggett taking a handoff on 3 and 9, slipping, falling down, and getting back up and running for 11 yards.
