NFT: Did Fox and NBC get Bowe Bergdahl story wrong?

RC02XX : 1/28/2015 8:03 am
Not sure why the thread regarding Bergdahl was deleted last night, but as of today, Fox and NBC articles are being questioned for being speculative at best. Was Shaffer's (Fox's source) source the same individual as NBC's source?

Quote:
Why did three separate military spokesman deny on Tuesday that a decision has been made to charge Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl with desertion?

Because of an inflammatory Fox News segment and an anonymously-sourced NBC News story that sent reporters scrambling for information.

The Fox and NBC stories prompted strong denials from Pentagon officials.

"The reporting from Fox News and NBC on Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is patently false," Army Major General Ron Lewis said in a statement Tuesday.

"Let me just put a fork in this right now if I can," Rear Adm. John Kirby said at a news conference Tuesday. "No decision has been made with respect to the case of Sgt. Bergdahl. None. And there is no timeline to make that decision."

Another official called the Fox News report "speculative in nature."

But the Fox guest who originally made it a story said Tuesday night that he stands by what he said.

I wonder if these speculative articles will impact the timeline for release of the actual decision.

Are you losing sleep over this? You think we'll ever know the real truth? The media has its own agenda especially if you are zeroing in on cable network news. As for the network channels who the fuck knows anymore.
No...not losing sleep over it...

Just a follow up to the thread from yesterday that was subsequently deleted.
There are a lot of insinuations...
Dunedin81 : 1/28/2015 8:27 am : link
that there is a political dynamic at work here, that some in the Pentagon want to get on with this while the Administration wants to take its time for political reasons. Whether that is true or not, they're at a real risk of UCI the more that is said publicly by uniformed people on the subject.
They used different sources

Miklaszewski didn't use Shaffer as a source, he cited anonymous sources within the Pentagon. You never know for sure, but where there's smoke....

Who is Shaffer's source? I don't see any, even anonymous sources, in a FOX online article dated today.

That's not what I meant...I meant that both may have used the same anonymous source at the Pentagon.

Now if Miklaszewski used Shaffer as the source, then this would be a terrible case of circular reporting. But if they used the same source unknowingly, then it would just be uncorroborated reporting that may turn out to be circular in nature.

MSNBC.

Stories from both are exactly the same.
If I remember correctly,

the original source cited in yesterday's thread began with the caveat that NO decision had been made yet.
Imo, the denials could be just as false as the original
Bill L : 1/28/2015 9:37 am : link
Or, more likely, they didn't like the original and scuttled the plans for now so that they could deny. I don't think that there is any scenario in this that is more likely than another.
When both Fox and NBC

get the story, these are intentional leaks. Sounds to me like the administration got skittish about the coverage and put the hammer down.

The investigation was done long ago. Everyone at the Pentagon knows what they have. It's just a question of how to best handle it. This is extremely embarrassing for them given they praised Bergdahl the way they did.

Boy though, the more you learn about his father - what a piece of work this guy is. I can see how some people think this young man did this intentionally.
