Who is the worst Giant you've ever seen play? Dumb penalties, getting burned always, just sucking. Now I'm far from any type of football guru, but one player that really stood out to me as the worst I've seen was 2009 CC Brown. I just remembered him constantly getting burned, or a crucial personal foul that cost us dearly. I remember him being ultra bad against the Lions that year. And when the Panthers blew us out in the final game at Giants Stadium. Vikings too. Now I've only been a Giants fan since 2005 when I was 12 so maybe there's a guy in the 90s that blew harder but I'll just open up the discussion with that. Fuck CC Brown.
"Why's everybody always pass-rushin' on me?"
He was a 7th rd pick.
People rag on Fassell and Reeves but from 1971 to 1980 the Giants never had more than six wins. And for a lot of that time, the defense was pretty good to excellent. The offenses were beyond awful.
Is there a gif available of him falling over backwards from his stance on the line of scrimmage?
Dayne and William Joseph, given their draft picks, need to be in the discussion regarding value.
You're right, Fassel did a pretty good job when you consider how many horrible players he was saddled with. The guys you mentioned, Leshon Johnson, Kevin Alexander, Lance Scott, Willie Beamon, Joe Montgomery, Sean Bennett....
Was that Derek Brown? I was thinking of the guy, but couldn't recall the position (was stuck on John Markham, another 'hey, we heard he was a good guy or something like that' pick).
Brian Alford?
Lewis Tillman, the RB who tried to hold the throne between Joe Morris and Rodney Hampton, was pretty hilarious.
Yep. All that speed but he ran like he was wearing horse blinders. He would just plow into linemen's backs over and over again.
Pretty sure that was the guy. Couldn't hit a hole to save his life. If he was any good would they have spent a first on Hampton the very next year?...Bet a million he's still trying to have his first kid...
Fist that came o my mind as well.
wow, I had completely forgotten that guy was ever on the Giants. Man, our skill positions were a cluster in the 90s.
Quote:
Tillman was a rookie the year before Hampton. He was a solid backup RB.

Tillman was a mid-round pick who was a good backup to Hampton and played well when Hampton was hurt in 1993. Was he a star? Of course not, but he's nowhere near the conversation when it comes to worst Giants.
Quote:
for a guy, who came from The U when they were considered the greatest college football team, he was about the worst Giants player I've seen (not only the worst receiver).
He was a 7th rd pick.
True...but he was also part of a great Miami team, so you would expect a bit more than he was able to produce.
Dave Brown was also awful. He probably contributed to more total losses than CC Brown, but that's more by virtue of position and the number of starts. CC Brown crushed the hopes and dreams of an otherwise talented roster.
Lance Legree was also terrible and hung on for a surprising number of years. Watching him get blown off the LOS on running plays was always depressing.
Man, those guys suxt.
Sorry.
I'd take Brown off the list just for the time he laid out prime time. I'd take Graham off the list for the game he had against Denver when they were undefeated. At least there is one good memory for each of them.
Derek Brown also killed me.
Or some people haven't watched too many Giant games

There are guys on here who were good Giants. Some guys were not very good, but do not belong in the same paragraph as "worst ever".
Jeremy Lincoln and Rocky Thompson are runners up.
The guy might never have been much of a QB, but he had absolutely nothing to work with either.
crick n NC : 2:18 pm : link : reply
Ryan Phillips, taken before Jason Taylor.
Ryan Phillips was a DE conversion who didn't quite work out. He was a somewhat below average starting LB on a good defense. How this translates to "worst Giant ever" is beyond me.
The guy might never have been much of a QB, but he had absolutely nothing to work with either.
I hate how Brown gets shit on. He was never going to be a star, but not only did he have absolutely nothing to work with, but he took such an unbelievable beating week after week. Just pounded every game, and he was tough enough to take it. AND he steamrolled Deion! He deserves to be left alone just for that! It's not his fault we blew a 1st rounder for him.
Virtually no QB could have succeeded given those conditions.
The guy might never have been much of a QB, but he had absolutely nothing to work with either.
Ha Ha Ha! "The Human False Start Scott Gragg" he was my second thought after CC Brown. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to kick my TV when that fucking village idiot Gragg would go offsides!!
What really sucked was watching Gragg then go to the Niners and somehow become a very solid OT for them. Asshole.
Dorsey Levens was impressive against the Eagles.

LOL, what was the back story on that? I know it has been a BBI meme forever but I don't know where it originated or who said it.
This is what I mean. Pete Mitchell? He never matched his Jax production, but he was fine. Worst Giant ever? Come one people...

It was the headline on the BBI home page after we played the Eagles, and then for whatever reason that page "froze" and was up there for six weeks or something. It became comical considering that Levens was not impressive overall.

Haha. That's good.
I don't remember him being impressive as a Giant.. ever.
And I agree that a lot of these posters haven't watched much GIANTS football or have any understanding of what a really bad player really is. Many of the names mentioned, from Rocky Thompson to Dave Brown to Ron Dayne and even to Matt Dodge were nowhere near as bad as Maddox, CC Brown, or some of the bozos on the team in the 1970s were.

Chris Calloway was his supposed #1 receiver. His other receivers included the likes of Thomas Lewis, Lawrence Dawsey, Arthur Marshall and Omar Douglas. His tight ende were Howard Cross and Aaron Pierce. His running backs were Rodney Hampton's expanding waistline, the perpetually bored Ty Wheatley and Keith Elias. His OL included such stalwarts as the original Human False Start Scott Gragg and Greg Bishop.

Maybe I'm wrong, but wasn't Gragg a solid O-lineman who went on to have some very good years in SF?

Chris - I have always said the same about Dave Brown. I don't think, even under the best of circumstances, he was going to be a star. But, he could have been a decent QB if Reeves and Fassell hadn't ruined him. He played with one of the worst OLs ever seen, an unimiaginitive offense that ran Hampton into the ground and then left Brown with far too many 3rd and longs, he had no WRs and no TE that were consistent threats. He simply never had a chance.

how about former redskins 1st rounder-
''New York Giants[edit]
In April 2006, Arrington agreed to a seven-year, $49 million contract with the New York Giants. He was injured in week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys and missed the rest of the season with a ruptured Achilles tendon. On February 12, 2007, he was released by the New York Giants.''
(basically seemed very gimpy, unless my memory is shot, prior to the heel tear)

October 19, 2003, we lost to the Eagles 14-10 - Levens had 16 carries for 64 yards, with a long of 17. When we lost to them again in November, Levens had 4 carries for 1 yard. I think "Dorsey Levens Was Impressive Against the Eagles" was still the BBI homepage headline at that time.
Herzlich might be one of the worst LBs I've ever seen as well. Not sure he's seen a play action he hasn't bitten on.
Junkin and Charlie Brown are definitely top 10 though.
Who brought up Dave Thomas? Not me. He wasn't good, but I wouldn't put him in the running for worst ever.
That said, Junkin failed on 9% of his plays in blue (7 kicks, 4 punts)!
Charlie Brown might've been even worst in his 1 start...
Tommy Maddox
Thomas Lewis (Lewis Thomas (?))
Rocky Thompson
Finally, I can't remember the name of the awful first draft choice (5th overall) from Oklahoma-- the right defensive end who was blind in one eye
Myers from 2013 was worse IMO at TE
Not only that, we cut a decent and relatively inexpensive returner for him... dammit I can't remember his name. I was so pissed when they cut him for Mitchell and the fork sticking out of his back.
Honorable mention to Bobby Duhon for the old timers. I swear he fumbled every punt return.

Sonic, yes he went on to have a decent career with SF and was on the field for that debacle against them, but he totally sucked while with us! I would see a SF game and bitch why he couldn't be like that with us!!!
Hah! yep, that's the one, good memory!
I still have extreme slow motion, nightmarish visions of Marcellus Rivers and his cement shoes being passed by Westbrook on his way to an 84 yard punt return back breaking game winning TD.
Dammit.
He is the only player I've seen return a kick, after fielding it cleanly, and not make the 10 yard line.
Yet people were clamoring for him to return kicks because he had one decent return.
Quote:
But he was definitely my most hated Giant. It burned my ass just to see him wear the uniform.

My memory could be faulty here, was it Bashir Levingston?
I like your choice, Bama. I was going to suggest Gus Coppens who played tackle in 1979 and got run over by just about everybody. Not really his fault. He was drafted in the 12th round by the Rams, released, and in desperation the Giants picked him up. If you think the O line the last two years have been godawful, you should have seen the 1979 version.
Herzlich might be one of the worst LBs I've ever seen as well. Not sure he's seen a play action he hasn't bitten on.

I wanted to mention hosley but thought it a little too soon to judge him completely. Not saying he's going to go from shit to good, more like shit to poop
But Ian Allen is probably a better choice. Soooo bad.
And Matt Dodger is definitely the best choice. A punter shouldn't have that kind of negative affect on a team. I should have to hold my breath every time the long snapper snaps the ball to you.
Brandon Myers was embarrassingly bad too. He put up the emptiest stats I've ever seen from any Giants player ever. And his stats weren't even that good lol.
Seeing Dave Thomas mentioned a few times surprises me. The guy wasn't that good but he was a starting CB on a team that went to the Super Bowl and had a top 5 defense. He was slow as fucking molasses but he held up reasonably well in 2000 all things considered. We have seen WAY worse than that at DB over the last couple of decades. I'd argue we've undoubtedly seen worse in the last 5 years on more than one occasion.
Matt Doge, as another said... I cant recall another punter that had as much of an effect on a games as his horrid performances did...
Gary Jeter, mark Haynes,Arron Pierce, Derrick Brown
Dave Brown Danny Kanell Thomas Lewis all the Reeves
New Jersey Broncos Carlton Grey Cory Widmer,Carlton Baily
Keith Elias. Lurch Greg bishop Ian Allen Herschel walker,
Herman Moore Dave Thomas, Ron Dayne
I can go on all day.
Nick Greisen also was injured that game.
Kevin Lewis, undrafted MLB from Duke stepped in and did not belong on the field.
He quit on the team and plays more than a few times.
I see your Hicks with Brad Benson and Luke Pettigrout
Runner Up: Cedric Jones
Link - ( New Window )
I cringed every time I saw him on the field. I remember being elated when he was picked early in the expansion draft by Jacksonville (or Carolina?)

Earnest Gray - are you kidding? He caught 10 touchdown passes in 1980, and 27 in six years with the Giants. He also had 78 receptions in 1983. He was good receiver, not great, but good. Simms once said of Gray, "Nobody gets open like Earnest."

Keep bringing the stupid.
QB Danny Kanell was pretty terrible too. I remember he was playing so scared, he allowed a defender to take the ball right out of his frightened hands like a little kid turning over his lunch to a bully.
LOFL. So the stories are true. I'll never forgive Kanell for a game vs. the Falcons when he got hit at the goal line, coughed the ball up, and into the hands of a defender.
Same game where Stephen Davis ran into a pile and everyone thought he was down and he squirted out and ran all the way into the endzone, right?
God that sucked.

These are all low quality recievers Parcells knew it. Simms was only given one above quality recievers mike Sherrard.
He quit on the team , and more than a few times on plays
Was glad to get Collins he was a warrior.
Ever wonder why the team did keep him?
Matt Dodge was just epically bad, anyone see his hour long interview with LT2? (tynes) I love tynes btw. Plus Dodge actually cost a draft pick lol, Reese or one of his scouts was smokin the kush when they insisted on drafting this guy
Elway.

Yup, I was at that game, what a disaster. I remember him hitting the pile, and when he popped out of there and scored, it was one of the loudest boos that I have heard at a Giants game. Just a lack of effort and in the home opener as well, giving up 50 points.
But I mention him because his athleticism was comical at times

Elway.
That pass to Toomer was sweet. Best game that season.
There are the guys who actually played like Arthur Marshall, and the busts who never really got on the field, like Derek Brown.
Hard to argue with Tommy Maddox. Feces Brown. There are so many to choose from.
Scott Gragg
CC Brown
Matt Dodge
Jeremy Lincoln
I did the same thing after the Matt Dodge game in 2010.
I was at a sports bar with 2 of my friends and a few other people. I just sat there by myself for a few hours after everyone left and got so loaded that I could barely even stand. Had to call out of work the next day and spent about 18 hours in bed. Rough.
not sure if you're being sarcastic?

Talk about a kick to the balls. I remember I went to a sports bar in Belmont Shore to watch that one, and that game drove me to just stay there and get hammered. Had to take a cab home, call in sick to work the next day, and beg my roommate to drive me back there to get my car.

The thing about that night that put me in even more of a chipper mood was that I had a 10 hour shift over night as the cherry on top to add to that wholesome chipper mood. and by chipper mood, I mean wood-chipper. If not for my headphones, someone would've, well...ya know?!
It's the guys that ARE good enough but are too stupid or selfish...those bother me. The guys that can't be bothered to go to practice, or to learn their routes, or to keep the gun at home and out of their sweatpants...those types do more damage than any name on this thread.

Kent Graham was worse than Dave Brown? than CC Brown? than Matt Dodge?? Frankie Ferrara?? Not a chance. He was not a superstar, but he wasn't terrible, and far from the worst player on the Giants teams he played on in the late 90s let alone in history. Your memory is a bit fuzzy, bro.
This alone tells you how bad our O-line has been in that a man with no football talent whatsoever has been able to maintain a roster spot for the last several years.
We had Ben Fricke
Speaking of worst players John Markham was pretty bad or Dave Thomas
I never understood why we didn't cut his ass earlier, considering he sucked all through pre-season, he made that stupid boneheaded move and other mess ups, and there are probably 10-15 capable NFL punters out of work every season.

ben fricke was short but tough as nails.
todd pollack, a member of the rarified westchester community and BC grad, was another terrible draft pick.
I remember him as a Cowboy... was he on the Gmen at some point?
wow, at 35 from colon cancer with two young kids. looked like he had a pretty productive post-playing career too. very sad.
yeah he was a pro bowl long snapper for many years, but he certainly goes into the matt dodge/chris calloway goat status.
That's the funny thing with a few of these mentions - the topic was "Worst Giant you've ever seen play". Several of these guys (Fricke, Todd Pollack, John Markham) never played for them.
