To JD and the Straight Shot. He's been jamming with those assholes and it's been at the expense of the team. Of course, Dolan doesn't care because it promotes their summer tour - where Henrik is a special guest.
the no-touch icing rules. but as someone who plays hockey I like when they put the whistles away.
I felt like the game was pretty consistent (even if it was consistently bad) maybe one call went one way or the other, but I think the players prefer that too.
Spent 150 two nights ago to sit in that fucking dump in Nassau for over 2 hours in silence and watch us get scored on 4 times and respond with nothing but a garbage goal that happened when I was already walking out of the building.. then tonight I watch 3 more periods of missed opportunities and then we give one up that was definitely stoppable and fucking lose 1-0.
I haven't physically seen this team score a goal since Hagelin beat the Senators in OT a week and a half ago.
to have 15 regulation losses in 46 games. Is it AV's aggressive system that has us playing far fewer OT games than other teams two years in a row now? Or just bad luck?
I've seen my share of Rangers games, I think it's just luck. I hate to use the phrase puck luck, but we all know what that means.
Believe me, no one wants to play the Rangers in the playoffs (if they're playing this way in the spring). That team is built for long playoff runs. They're a lot like the Bruins from 2011. Solid system the players buy into, max effort, positionally almost always in the right spot, crisp breakouts and neutral zone play, skill players, solid defense, and great goalie who can steal a game.

Agree. I didn't think the officiating told the story. Both teams fought hard, played hard and the end was a disappointment (to Nyr fans of course). That said, it was pretty evenly called.
But pk is still a gigantic pulsating pus bag. Horrible. Such a bitch.
We could have both jumped back over the Caps and gotten to within 5 pts of 1st in the division with 2 games in hand if we could have pulled this out. Just a waste of a fucking chance.
As much as I hate saying it, I'm convinced Zuccie will be the odd man out.
These tight, tough games against the likes of the Styx, Boston as well as Tampa and the Habs has to give the FO pause. They need someone that can win a faceoff and to take the pressure off of Hayes who's minutes have diminished.
On this team just really don't bring much to the table.
Stemp, Glass, Moore, Hayes is just 2 or 3 too many players with no offensive pop whatsoever, and they aren't any better than average on D. A player like Fast should be your 10th/11th best forward, not your 7th/8th.
Combine that with the fact that they're getting fuck-all from guys like Zucc and Hags, and you just start to look like a team with a lot less talent than you thought you had.
I didn't like it when it went down, I don't like it now. It was a panic move and an overreaction to needing a better point man on the power play. He looks every bit his age, he sucks in our zone and he's not giving the PP enough juice to justify his contract.
unfortunately they don't have a lot of pieces. Boyle, Glass, Hayes, Step, Zucc, etc have all been non factors recently.
That said, this is virtually the same team that just went on a great streak. And if Hank doesn't give up that ridiculous goal tonight we may not be having the conversation.
Still doesn't change the fact that the players mentioned above have been bullshit.
There are definitely weak points that need to be addressed if they want to make rain this year.
Adding a skilled guy to the bottom six changes its complexion. We have that skilled guy.
And yes, Miller makes errors. But he's earned a longer leash. Girardi and McDonagh have both fucked up tons the past two games.
And fuck, Price is good.
Price has come a long way, he's a legit elite goalie now. This was expected of him, but until the past two seasons there were doubts (consistency mainly).
Problem is he's overwhelmingly the strongest part of the team.
To me they're only a piece or two away from being right there with the very top teams in the east.
You think so?
I think they're one of those teams that relies heavily on their goalie. They're opportunistic, but certainly not dominant.
If they make a deadline deal for a bona fide sniper maybe, but Paccioretty is their goal scorer. And I love the guy (I like almost all the American players), he's not who you think of with elite goal scorers.
Their D is suspect. Subban is not a stay at home defenseman, and Markov while so well rounded is 100 years old. As is Gonchar.
Plekanec is a finnesse guy. Gallagher is a grinder. Galcheynuk is their most talented player and he's still 20 years old.
I want to buy into them, but they're goal differential and if you watch them, many times after the games I find myself saying "how the F did they pull out that win?".
Anyway, they're not a bad team, just not one IMO built on sustainable winning. They grind away until they get a break, and hope Carey keeps them in the game until then.
Depth issues up front of on D and one team doesn't have much speed but the other doesn't have enough size and blah blah blah..
But I'm pretty sure Hank, Price, Halak, and even lolfleury won't be the reason any of those teams don't advance far..
I think the dumbest team will be the one who rocks their core to "go for it" around the trade deadline and totally fucks up their chemistry along with hurting depth and their future.

I agree completely with your assessment on Price. He has matured nicely and can now be considered elite. I'm not sure why Ranger fans are so upset with the refs here- they were going to get shut out no matter what. And besides, we did get a goal taken away from us. That more than makes up for any icing or penalty not called.
6-10-1 now against the other Eastern Conference playoff teams. One of those wins was against Tokarski, not Price, and 2 of the other wins came in Overtime.
Bad luck or has this team taken a step back from last year? Feel like most of these games, except maybe one of the Islanders games, have been played pretty close... but for whatever reason we're getting unlucky or someone (like Hank last night) makes an incredibly bad play and we lose. Frustrating.
pj, I have TB has the favorite coming out of the East, but the Canadiens are really close (and have the superior goaltending). I think you're being too critical of your team and overestimating the competition.
Loss aside, last night was a fun game. Really intense, lots of exciting shit.
it's two frustrating losses, let's not overreact. It doesn't erase the month and a half of great hockey they'd played.
This team swept the Western Canada trip and the California trip (!). It takes a pretty good team to do that. Hopefully we take it out on a shitty Carolina team Saturday night.
Realistically, I know they're fine and will bounce back and put together another string of really good hockey. Games like last night just drive me nuts.
Great game from a hockey perspective, maddening from a fan perspective.
I think this team is better than last years (and last I checked a couple of weeks ago, it was performing at a better pace than the team 12 months ago).
We lost a game that was essentially a coin flip to a very good team.
BTW, Nash needed to score on that short handed opportunity. Fuck. I'm encouraged that he's still getting and creating those opportunities even though the puck isn't bouncing his way. His S% was unsustainable even accounting for the quality of chances he was creating.

you think so? Maybe, I am.
It's shaping up to be a great 2nd half/finish and if things hold even close to right now a great playoff season.
Yeah, definitely. We (Ranger fans) do the same shit. It's a lot worse on HF, where fans act like a 3C or 6D is preventing us from making a run, ignoring that every team has salient holes.
And it's not like I think the habs are a bad team. I don't.
It's just the system, it's not obvious their approach like the Rangers or Bruins with AV or Julien who have strict systems. the Habs rely more on being opportunistic and having a great goalie.
No doubt it's worked for them so far this year, things have really clicked and maybe davisian is on to something and chemistry is more important than some other factors.
a better team this year you can also look around the division/conference and say there are teams that are also better this year and those teams are either playing better at this juncture or they're simply better squads.
This team should be measured not only by their current record and their recent streak including the impressive sweep on the west coast trip but how they stack up against those that they're looking up at in the points standings (Yinz aside).
It's long past time for him to overcome that weird fixation. The guy simply a very bad hockey player and he hurts the team. Now 17-16 with Glass and 10-3 without him.
For not having put the question to AV multiple times on this. They should be hammering him on it in pressers. The correlation is absurd, and seems to me AV had barely been put in a position to speak to it. From what I've seen it's been lightly glazed over with questions phrased as "Glass' struggles", etc,

We've been waiting on Moore's upside since we acquired him. He's not taking that next step. I thought he would thrive when AV got here but it hasn't happened.
where you guys lose and aren't bitching at the refs.
Oh well. March 15th, boys. Mark your calendars. The Panthers come to town with the final playoff spot on the line. Gonna be epic.
This is why no one likes you. You try too hard to be douchy. The douche needs to flow naturally from within.
I dont think you'll make the sweet 16 come the spring.
Anyway, why would we care about the Capitals & Panthers going down to the wire? Go Panthers.
We all complain about Glass-- he definitely sucks, but there's a lot of guys on this team not getting it done. Hagelin, Zuccs, Kreider to name a few.
And guess who has 15 goals in 65 regular season games now as a Ranger? Yup, the same guy who scored 25+ for 11 straight years in Tampa. We all knew this would happen, of course. Makes you real cautious about giving this guy an extension next year. He turns 40 in June.
if our fuckin franchise goalie makes an uncontested, unscrened 40 foot throwaway shot save with under 5 minutes to go. Fuckin' fuck we better kick Carolina's ass on Saturday.

Boyle also looks like absolute shit lately.

It's an absurdly bad icing call, but them's the breaks.
Indeed. AV really needs to be grilled about this.
Not sure what team in their right mind is giving up anything of value (rental or not) for Moore.
I feel like the writers constantly write about Glass.
The writers have acknowledged that Glass sucks, but AV has hardly been put on the spot about it from what I've seen.

Oh I get it, you're typing with your free hand. Good job pal.
