Ehrhoff went to hit Ovechkin and Ovechkin basically ragdolled him with one arm and then somehow got called for a penalty. Couple of fights.. Brouwer was going at it with Perron and then Letang.. Perron jumped on a pile and I'm pretty sure he was punching Letang instead of Brouwer and didn't know it.
I think the Pens lose in the 1st rd this year. I am not sold on that team at all.
I also have to wonder if Trotz is going to wear Holtby out. He's been riding him hard all year. It might come back to bite them in the spring.
Habs are living on borrowed time. They beat the Stars Tuesday night in MTL, they were
outshot: 42 - 26
out hit: 21 - 19
lost giveaways: 13 - 7
lost takeaways: 8 - 4
lost on PIM: 21 - 8 (they had 21 PIMS to 8 for DAL)
they won the only place it counted - the scoreboard.
Obviously I'll take it, but you can't sustain winning that way. your goalie isn't going to stand on his head night in night out and a team like the Rangers you won't get away with that.
This is the last regular season meeting between the two teams this year, each winning 1 at home so far.

To that used tampon hudson and STILL feel it's OK to start this one? Pffft. You better not shit the bed again. BBI ain't changing your rubber sheets this time.

I watched the game as well...that Perron piling on and throwing blows was hilarious; I think you're right that he was blindly punching. Maybe he just could no longer stand McGuire's insistence to keep saying "Christopher Letang". Related, that Ovechkin blast from the sweet Green pass was a frickin' laser.

Hey, when Gretzky wants the puck, you pass it.
BTW, I got your book on Monday. You owe me $20.
Sorry there weren't more pictures and pop up pages.
That book is the shit. Reading "Red Sparrow" now- almost finished - also highly recommended.

Yep. Ovi is on another level right now. I don't think anyone is playing as well as he is. Just a complete 1 man wrecking machine.
being atrociously bad... or if Trotz has what was a really bad Capitals team a year ago playing at a really high level now. I do know the night before Washington lost in regulation to CBJ's backup goalie, while Pittsburgh beat a pretty good Winnipeg team. So maybe that's just hockey and it was one night.
But Pittsburgh's performance within the Metro division this year against the other relevant playoff contenders at this point is laughable. They're flat out getting their shit pushed in on a regular basis.
There are a number of moves I disagree with, but understand. I have no idea on Glass.
I could have understood a two-way, vet minimum deal.
We got a great haul on Dorsett, saved some cap space... And then allocate that space to fucking Tanner Glass. He does nothing well. He might be the worst hockey player in the league (excluding guys like John Scott, who are glorified fighters and not real players).
He has zero hockey ability. He racks up hits? Cool! You know what? You don't need to hit people when you have the puck. When Glass is on the ice the Rangers don't hold the puck.
As much of a shitbag Carcillo is, he showed 10x the hockey ability and costs half as much. Plenty of other 4th line grinders out there that have some hands that cost wayyy less than $1.3 mil.
What's funny is that the Stars were reportedly "hot" for Glass before we signed him. Maybe they're still dumb enough to think he's got value and we can dump him off on them. I'd take a hockey puck in exchange.
AV seems to think he's got some mysterious intangibles, though.. so he's not going anywhere.
Mystifying.. really, it is. And I'm a big AV fan. I think he's done a great job so far. This one I just can't figure out.
BTW, there's been articles about our lack of depth in the bottom six, which I think is largely horseshit (at least when we haven't played Glass). We've done well in the past 20 games because of an effective, but unconventional, bottom six. I think the need for 'grinders' has diminished and a bottom six that controls the puck is more valuable than a bunch of hitters.
I can go either way on that. On the one hand, you're right. On the other hand, I think a bit more aggression in the bottom six would be nice against teams like Boston and the Styx.
I don't know off hand but I honestly don't think we've lost more than 2-3 games MAX without Glass in the lineup this year.
So it's not like even though his numbers aren't good, we win with him in the lineup. It's almost the exact opposite. Which makes it even more maddening.
Greg, I don't disagree - there are obviously multiple ways to have good depth - those teams both have strong forechecks that generate turnovers and scoring opportunities and also drive decent possession as well.
I do think the game is a bit different than it was in the late 90's/early 00's where fourth liners were hitters/grinders, even with those teams you've cited (of course my memory could be bad here).

If you look at game logs, they don't differentiate between OTLs and regulation losses. If you combine the two, the Rangers are 27-18. They're 17-15 with Glass and 10-3 without him.
Yeah, I think that sample is large enough to tell you that we're a better team without him. And yet.. he continues to have a stranglehold on a lineup spot as long as he's healthy.
Miller over Glass is a fucking no brainer to everyone but the coach.
Another good test tonight against a very good goaltender.
BTW, Washington won 4-0 last night against Pittsburgh. We have three games in hand on both, but we're one point behind Washington, four behind Pitt.

Thanks - I didn't watch. Agreed on Holtby.

I rarely read fiction - other than the occasional Bible verse - so I'm looking forward to it.

No.
Please don't tell her.

Don't worry, guys.. the Habs will just feel the presence of #15 out there.
Yup, Glass'd.

I know, I'm in the same boat. I'm sure he's a nice guy and I don't wish him any ill will personally, but it's getting to be ridiculous.

For whatever reason, Vigneault loves the guy, but I'll be damned if I see the attraction.

Agreed... AV, who got us playing a more speed and possession game, for some reason loves this player that doesn't drive possession.

Well, yet another foolish act by Kreider.
That's so close
