NFT: Computer Problem: My Folders Started Going Back on Their Own

TheBigBlueOne : 1/29/2015 10:07 am
I just had this issue on my home PC. It's a 2010 Dell and I'm still using Vista. What just happened was I noticed the minimized folders stated blinking in the taskbar.

So I clicked it to bring up one of them and it was rapidly going back and forth between the parent folder and the open folder. I clicked the other blinking folder and it was rapidly going back to the parent folder, going forward, then back again. Then everything stopped and went back to normal. I have no idea what just happened.

The only other issue I have is that folders no longer keep their settings, i.e. when I leaved then in thumbnail view, they go back to details view.

Does anyone have an idea what happened? Is it a hack?
Sounds like it could be a virus situation

Do you have updated antiVirus? I think the Microsoft Security Essentials, the free one from Microsoft, is pretty well regarded. You can get it on Microsoft.com if you dont already have it.

Try to get it, update it (as much as possible). Completely ninstall all other antiviruses (you can't run more than one at once), and then do a total scan. See if anything comes up.
...?
As for the folder view problem in Vista

See if this might help:

Disabling Automatic Folder Type Discovery - ( New Window )

I have the Free 2015 AVG. I autoscan once a week. I also have registry cleaner which I last used in January. I will try the Microsoft Security Essential. Thank you for your response, NoPeanutz. I appreciate it.
