NFT: Boston Bruins (25-16-7) at New York Islanders (32-14-1), 7pm

Doubledeuce22 : 1/29/2015 11:52 am
Big game tonight. Boston has been on a roll. 5 out of their last 7 and playing really well.

Looks like Halak will get the start again.

I want to see the top line produce again. Grab looked good on the top line with JT and Bailey.

Go get em!!

JT hell of a set up
Gosh

JT is soooo pure. Beautiful to watch.
This may be just my observation
pganut : 1/29/2015 8:40 pm : link
But it seems like this year more than any other, the refs let broken sticks lay on the ice for a very long time. You'd think with 4 officials out there, someone would swoop in as soon as there was some clearance.

Fuckin' Halak, wandering again costs them.
halak

stay in your fucking net
WTF?!?!?!
timintey : 1/29/2015 8:40 pm : link
.
Halak could have just left it behind for Boychuk
pganut : 1/29/2015 8:41 pm : link
He effectively gave a direct pass to the Bs there. Didn't get reset in goal. Stupid play.
Reminds me of the Penguins game
Mike in NY : 1/29/2015 8:41 pm : link
Where Crosby had the late second period goal
Part of that is on Boychuk
pganut : 1/29/2015 8:43 pm : link
Needed to let Jaro know he was right there. Could have easily killed the remaining seconds. Damn shame, because that was a great rebound period for the Isles.

Oh well. This team likes to overcome adversity, even when they cause it themselves. Let's take this, 5-3.
This is one of those intermissions
pganut : 1/29/2015 8:52 pm : link
Where someone should get these guys so fired up in the room that they come out wanting to tear shit apart, like Forrest Whitaker's character in Fast Times at Ridgemont High after his car got wrecked. They got off the mat after being decked in the first. Clawed back into it and now need to impose their will to take this one back.
Why is Bailey down low defending Krejci
pganut : 1/29/2015 9:03 pm : link
Instead of a defenseman? Total shit way to start a period, boys. Regressed back to first period play so far.
Grrrr
pganut : 1/29/2015 9:15 pm : link
Lee needed to shoot that instead of the pass to Fransie. As JT said earlier, Rask has had some trouble with the puck...just get it on net, FFS. And what happened here...did we deliver a bunch of tickets to the Boston area as a relief package? Too many Bs fans there for my taste.
Oh well
timintey : 1/29/2015 9:31 pm : link
That goal at the end of the 2nd was a killer.... ugh
shit game
KWhite2250 : 1/29/2015 9:31 pm : link
they really need to put nelson back with lee and strome. nelson and lee are pretty much invisible lately
A few things:
pganut : 1/29/2015 9:40 pm : link
- No backcheck tonight for the Isles. Need to ensure that doesn't happen again.
- The refs sucked, and missed a lot of calls, both ways, but surely more for the Isles
- File the Marchand shit away for later and destroy that fuck.
- Still making the mistake of the extra-fine pass (ex: Lee on the 2 on 1). Take the shot. Period.
- While the Bruins had some exceptionally good luck on some of their goals, I hate to say that I need to blame Halak squarely. The giveaway at the end of the 2nd for that late goal, and the 3rd period goal he'd gloved, but couldnt hang onto for the goal. Terrible. Get that out of your system now as opposed to later. I thought we imported Nabby there for a while.
- That late 2nd period goal conceded was the moment where the game turned. Sucked the life out of the Isles, and the wind out of the Coli crowd.
- JT is a supreme being. That is all.

Doubledeuce...why, man...why?
Had a lot of shots like the Rangers did the other night
The 12th Man : 1/29/2015 9:47 pm : link
Rask made some great saves. The goal at the end of the 3rd was a killer. Move on all that matters is the next game. Can not win them all.
I will say this one more time we have to get a quality PKer on this team. That is going to kill us.

pganut : 1/29/2015 9:52 pm : link
You're right, we can't win every game. But it sure is nice to have a team out there playing where we either expect it, or know that they are certainly capable of it.

Forget this one, and on to the Motor City. Let's get some goals for Ocho.
Some

sloppy play tonight and Halak wasn't at his best. Still, I like the way Tavares is playing. Game could've been completely different if not for that goal at the end of the 2nd. Onto Detroit!

From a game we controlled most of, here are some salient points from the great folks over at LHH. Bottom line: sometimes you have a clunker, and you don't get the bounces (or calls). Put it behind us and focus on a smokin' Red Wings squad.

Good perspective:
Quote:
The most notable thing about tonight's game was that there were plenty of opportunities. John Tavares lead the way with nine individual Corsi attempts and seven scoring chances, but only managed to put one puck in the net due to that lost step. The team as a whole took 45 shots on Boston and Tuukka Rask went crazy. Everybody on the team had at least one attempted shot and everybody but Nick Leddy, Ryan Strome and Cal Clutterbuck had at least one scoring chance. It's hard to blame the team when opponents' goalie posts a .95 save percentage. Ultimately the biggest passenger in today's game may have been Jaroslav Halak who posted a .87 save percentage.

Given the facts that the Islanders have been playing extremely well, the offense clicked but was shut down by a Vezina winning goalie, that they out-possessed and out-shot their opponents, and that they were playing on two days rest while their opponents were playing on nine, this is probably an okay loss. Yes Halak had a bad game, but hopefully he stops playing the puck like he did tonight. Perhaps those shots he scored in the All-Star skills competition went to his head. Regardless, this is a loss to forgive, forget and move on from (though the playoff chances fell from 99.82 to 99.61 according to Sports Club Stats so maybe everyone should panic).

Oh, and Brad Marchand, after the highly legal and unpenalized jumping on JT's back, then the subsequent two hands on the stick shove of 91's mug into the ice...payback is a bitch:

Positive note at BPT: Ryan Pulock to resume skating with the team today. They won't rush him back, but good to see nonetheless.

Here comes the tough sledding part of the season....
man. that game was frustrating.
JayBinQueens : 1/30/2015 10:46 am : link
Give credit to Rask. Great performance and one of the best saves of the year.

The coaches have to drill into them about playing each period for the full 20 minutes. Giving up goals with under 5 seconds left is deflating
I was watching at a bar and missed
JayBinQueens : 1/30/2015 10:53 am : link
That play by Marchand. Would have loved to hear butchies coments
im already tired of passengers
KWhite2250 : 1/30/2015 10:54 am : link
its our version of the stupid puck luck nonsense.

they put boulton and okposo on ir after break, so they had an extra slot. Casey played in the 3rd. its just so we have that extra skater around
....
BrettNYG10 : 1/30/2015 10:59 am : link
I liked that goal by Tavares.

I love watching him, but I liked watching him more when you guys sucked dick.
Brett
pganut : 1/30/2015 11:24 am : link
What was equally impressive was his work on the 2nd goal, where he was aggressive on the forecheck and swooped in on the B's defender behind the goal, used his body to shield off the defender and took the puck, and alertly threw the pass up top to Boychuk. Very similar in sequence how he undressed the Devils recently for his GWG goal.

He is so pure. And he's playing with a ton of confidence right now.

Jay, Butchie was incensed and felt that Marchand could have been called for 2 penalties on the play, interference and roughing. Howie was miffed as well, especially since the play too place right in front of the ref, who watched the entire sequence.

I fucking hate Marchand more than anyone in the sport. Fuck that fucking weasley loser.

Fish : 1/30/2015 12:02 pm : link
who gives a fuck what you and Brett think. Secondly, this loss is a good thing. If you go beating the Rags, Bruins etc on a consistent basis it makes those teams hungry to beat you. Which means come playoffs the Isles would be ripe for losing the series. However with the B's winning, now the Isles have a taste of what it takes to beat them.
Another angle here, no one took the Isles seriously until about a month ago. Therefore we are starting to see our opponents best efforts and will need to adjust accordingly.

I wouldn't go as far as to call the loss a good thing. No loss is a good thing, IMO. I feel like "character losses" (like week 17 of 2007 for the G-Men) are once-every-five-years event. I don't believe in them.

All that said. If you're going to lose:

- Play well and play hard (they did)
- Rangers lose
- Penguins lose the night before
- Isles lose to a red hot team
- Isles lose to a team that bumps the rangers down in the standings

....all in all, if you're gonna go down, that's the way to do it.
shit...

Agree completely. The Rangers will def wind up eliminating the Isles at some point because they're figuring out "what it takes to beat them"
This was a better view on the MSG feed
