In 25 years, Eli might bot be in the air of the Jeters. Riveras, the Ruths of New York...... but even his critics and doubters will hold him to the highest regard.
would be as blasphemous as seeing Derek Jeter in another uniform.
Meh. Peyton, Montana, and Farve all moved on and started elsewhere. If the Giants decide to blow things up in a year or two, I'd have no problem if Eli played elsewhere.
I really dont understand the fetishization of guys playing for only one team. Is it to support some narrative that Eli is really a Giant at heart, whereas Peyton is just another mercenary football player?

I think it's special in this day and age to have it happen because it's so difficult to do. I love that Strahan never played anywhere else. It just sucks seeing these guys in other uniforms even if it ultimately doesn't matter. Seeing Armstead in a Redskins uniform sucked.
Selfishly, I'd just prefer to never see Eli in another uniform. It's just a fan thing. Some people care, some people don't.
other than here. If he rides out his deal this year and is bad (which after simply his first year in a new O, with a terrible line and no Cruz, he was still excellent mins the SF game) he would retire if the Giants moved on. I dont see any shot of Eli not being here 3 more years
Eli just had one of his better "statistical" years, not an elite one.....and he did it with a woeful OL and running attack.....having OBj finally play, sure helped....sounds like Archie is setting the table for his son for an expensive extension....no way Eli is taking less than those other guys....we will be paying for this a few years down the road, big time....

Manning will certainly get market value, and all the QB's who sign deals over the next few years will as well. All teams have to pay down the road...it's how the system is.
Another Championship, which Manning is capable of bringing, would sure make the payments easier.
This is posturing to try to get a favorable extension. If the unlikely scenario played out where the Giants didn't extend Eli and either trade him or let him walk as a FA, he isn't retiring in the prime of his career.
at 20M.....Big Ben, Rivers, and Eli all have their contracts end at the same time......so I think Each are waiting on who goes first to see who sets the base line....
is speaking for Eli or not and I have no idea if he meant it literally.
but, how does this possibly set Eli up for a "better extension"?
If anything it worsens his stance, since Archie effectively eliminated any competition, it's Giants or retire and Eli would have to walk from the Giants take or leave it offer.
Now I doubt it comes to that and I don't think this is really even considered when the Giants negotiate, but my point was it doesn't help Eli.
And I agree, when he signs this extension he'll probably be the highest paid QB in the league. Like every other franchise QB after they sign their new deal (except Brady).
1. This is what ARCHIE thinks, not necessarily what ELI thinks.
2. Even if Eli does think this way today, if the Giants didn't want him and Eli thought he could still play, would he really pass up the $15 - $20 million offers he would likely get from other teams with shitty QBs?
the contract is almost done between Eli and the Giants. That is a perfect PR move to say that for Eli. Giant for life blah blah, and easy to say when you know he is getting a new deal inked right now. Sure Archie knows exactly where things stand...
undercut Eli..They will still make him a highly paid QB..There is no leverage either way..Would never come into play, imo
Agreed! Anyone who things otherwise doesn't know the organization or Mara family
Piling on and in violent agreement (and not just cuz' you're Reb). That's what makes the New York Football Giants a great organization. Eli is a class act too.

Great point. And the previous year he had a good year but a bad statistical one? Give the doom and gloom a rest occasionally?

The previous year he had a good year?
Has absolutely nothing to do with doom and gloom....it's a fact of life......Eli is the best qb we ever had.....and we are going to pay to keep him.....his contract is and will be an albatross around this teams's neck.....that's what happens with a franchise qb....you have to pay to keep them....
RE: Anybody expecting less than 16-17m is going to be sorely disappointed.
If Eli landed in a situation like Peyton's where he missed a year and the Giants nabbed a can't-miss QB with the #1 overall pick, would he really just ride off into the sunset?
If he wound up in a Phil Simms scenario where he missed the Super Bowl and we won with Nassib, would he sit still and play a backup role the next season?
If the Giants tank next year and clean house, would Eli really retire at the age of 35 rather than go to a team that's a quarterback away from making a championship run?
I hope Eli retires a Giant, and it's nice that he seems to have such an attachment to the franchise, but there are a million ways he could wind up in another uniform before his career is over.
and I'd bet a dollar to a donut that he and his wife are comfortable raising their family in whatever area they have chosen.
Considering the fact that he has made a fortune, he doesn't seem like someone that has to live in the fast lane, and plays in a brutal sport it makes sense that he would be willing to pack it in if the Giants didn't want to pay him enough to make it worth his while to play for them.
Eli is the greatest Giant who ever lived..........
He is the second greatest PLAYER who ever played for the Giants. But factoring in class, honor, playing, and representing this team the way it should be, he stands alone. I think he has some great chapters left in him.........sign him up for the final stage of a hall of fame career. I would never want to see him in another uniform.
RE: Eli is the greatest Giant who ever lived..........
Peyton could walk away from Indy and pick right back up with Denver and make equal to better money. Eli is probably a little overvalued by New York, which we are all fine with. But he's not the generational player his brother is. If he takes a "fair" deal from the Giants it's not going to be under market, probably just right at market, with no thank you for the Super Bowls folded in. I also do believe Eli strongly wants to stay in New York. Obviously his brand value is helped by being in New York and he's successfully shed the negativity of wiggling away from San Diego. He's got nothing to gain from publicly squeezing the Giants for above market money and looking a weasel some would argue for the second big time in his career.
is. Almost every post on BBI alone about QB contracts demonstrates that (well, that and that most people also don't understand cap hits vs what a player actually makes/made).
Manning will get market value, probably higher end because the sticks always move every time a new deal is signed, and people will flip out about how he's overpaid, selfish, etc, completely oblivious to that it was, actually, just market price.
Except it doesn't work that way...
Which is probably exactly why Archie is saying this.
It's good PR, especially when the extension's [surface] numbers are likely to make a lot of people flip out whenever they do the deal/announce it.

Genies are literal.
What would Eli do with 6 bucks?
Eli just had one of his better "statistical" years, not an elite one.....and he did it with a woeful OL and running attack.....having OBj finally play, sure helped....sounds like Archie is setting the table for his son for an expensive extension....no way Eli is taking less than those other guys....we will be paying for this a few years down the road, big time....

"I'll never do that for 6 bucks again"
;)
$1 signing bonus

And besides, what does Archie say, that has to do with contract negotiations for Eli? Absolutely nuthin'.....

Agree 100% with this post.

I would be giddy if we could get it done for under 20 a year

No, he's not.
Neither, to be honest. I think he's going to be perfectly happy disappearing.

Me too

Has all the leverage to get him signed for under 15M a year
Thats a laugh, ELI would have won a couple of more SBs if Reese had not been the GM.
Yeah because those 2005, 2006 Giants look like world beaters in the NFL. Stupid keep posting stupid.
Imo, Eli's salary cannot be so huge that prevents us from adding necessary good players, albeit not superstars.
