On Goodell possibly owing Robert Kraft an apology: "This is my job. This is my responsibility to protect the integrity of the game."
Goodell pretty much talked around the part of a question about Stan Kroenke seemingly having much more interest in LA than STL

Re player conduct, will not going to be reliant of law enforcement, "could take months.." NFL stonewalled Union on that issue.

Goodell again on DeflateGate says NFL doesn't know who's responsible or even if there was an actual "infraction".
Goodell says any paycut would "be up to the owners."
Does Roger Goodell think he deserves a paycut?: "That's up to the owners. They evaluate my performance and compensation and I don't argue."
Roger Goodell could have his $44 million salary slashed 90% and he'd still make $5 million/year, by the way.
Roger Goodell will not avoid taking pictures at owners' homes in the future. Said his appearance at Kraft's house is "part of what we do."

Also, putting a team in LA is a bad idea. You'd have to live there to understand.
Wondering what type of salary cap hit and dead money the Patriots take if the league decides to cut Goodell
Salary: $3.2 million
Net Worth: $600 million
Yikes!
He looks likes he's 45.
A LOT of credible reporters w/ hands up prepared to ask Goodell good questions today. Some were called upon + did. Many did not get chance.
it's fashionable in the media these days to hate him and dissect his comments about the rice scandal like it is the warren report on the jfk assassination, but really, people are still watching/attending games and buying the merchandise.
player conduct has been an issue before goodell's time and after (and pre-goodell, players were able to get away with a lot more).
Is it unfair that he's in a cant-do-right relationship with the media, players, and fans? I think it is. He made his bed here by showing no leadership whatsoever. He's an empty suit companyman with no gravitas.
Roger Goodell sounded less optimistic about playoff expansion on Friday
PFT ...
At his pre-Super Bowl press conference last year, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said that he thought there were a lot of benefits to expanding the postseason.
[...]
The possibility of expanding the playoffs has been a topic over the last couple of years, Goodell said. There are positives to it, but there are concerns as well, among them being the risk of diluting our regular season and conflicting with college football in January.

The NFL is not a charity or a public organization. It's a private football league that serves as entertainment to people as a distraction from all the other crap in life.
It's not his job to solve all the world's problems or hire security guards who follow players around 24/7 to ensure they don't get in trouble.
is he really degrading the game by his presence? once the ball is kicked off on sunday in what appears to be a classic matchup between the defending champs and the re-charged former champs, people are going to watch both the game and the spectacle.
NFLPA president Eric Winston says a 2-year-old could do Roger Goodell's job
Link - ( New Window )
That's funny, considering a Pinata could do as good a job as the NFLPA's done lately...
Roger, you guys have faced a lot of problems over this
year that have a really wide range, but a lot of the
issues have in common the conflict of interest. When you do something like hire an outside investigator like Ted Wells into the Patriots investigation, youre still paying him and Robert Kraft who owns the Patriots is paying you. So even when you do everything right in one of those situations, it opens you guys up to a credibility gap with some of the public and even with some of your most high-profile players. What steps can you guys take in the future to mitigate some of those conflict of interest issues?
Well, Rachel, I dont agree with you in a lot of the assumptions you make in your question, Goodell said. Somebody has to pay them [the consultants], Rachel. So unless youre volunteering, which I dont think you are, we will do that.
The commissioner went on to essentially deny that his outside consultants are capable of bias. Check it out the full Nichols/Goodell moment below:

In a casual conversation with a reporter about the success of the NFL and how nothing seems to get in its way, I inappropriately and flippantly made a remark about the job of Commissioner Goodell, Winston said in a statement passed along to PFT. We often disagree on the issues but I want to apologize to Roger for being unprofessional. I am disappointed that my comment was taken out of context and inserted into a column without any knowledge that the conversation was on-the-record. I am disappointed that this reporter chose to burn me, but this is an important lesson that I will learn going forward. This is my fault and again, I apologize.

Because I totally said that his problem is that he didnt solve all the world's problems.
The guy is the public face of the NFL and was giving a press conference. My point is that no one believes him and his words carry no weight. You're right, he seems like essentially the CEO of the NFL. That is not the model of commissioners-past however. Especially in baseball, 20th century commissioners tended to be guardians of the game and upbriaded owners when necessary. Look even at the NBA, where the new commish threw out an owner who was bad for the sport. No way Goodell would do that.
Newsflash-NFL would make money even if anyone held that job
Who is more dislikeable
Brady, belicheck or goddell?
Either the Patriots will be crowned champions, and a majority of the country outside the six New England states will view them as cheaters. Or, thanks to the scrutiny that has dogged the Patriots for two weeks, the undistracted Seahawks will roll to back-to-back titles. The 120-odd actual football plays will be irrelevant. PSI will be the takeaway from this Super Bowl.
Thats the message we received from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in his annual state of the league address on Friday. Given one final chance to take the air out of the issue before the game (pun intended), Goodell passed.

You know its bad when King will come out that strongly against Goodell. Ole' Roger has truly become a despicable person
He couldnt make everything better, but he sure could make it worse, and by the time he was done talking Friday, thats what hed done to his already battered public image.
By the time Goodell stepped down from the literal high ground (he spoke from his lectern on a raised podium), by the time he stopped expounding from the metaphorical high ground (boasting of all the important things both he and his league learned this year), hed only widened the credibility gap that should, but likely wont, threaten his lucrative tenure as NFL commissioner.
