Joe in Knoxville : 1/30/2015 2:55 pm
Anybody here made the switch to T-Mobile and what are your thoughts

I am with Verizon right now and pay about 157/month for two lines 2gb of data and unlimited text and 700 min

T-Mobile is 115/month two lines unlimited everything

Thanks in advance
I have T-Mobile.

The only issue I have is coverage when I leave town.

dropped calls or what they sell some thing now where you can make calls on the internet if you are out of coverage?
Coverage.

I rely on the phone and not someone else's connection. It's great most of the time. I lose it when I go to a cabin in Blue Ridge and my brother's house in Levittown, NY. I end up using my work AT&T phone.

This.

They do have wifi calling, and it works reasonably well, though it didn't when it was first introduced. But you need a reliable wireless internet connection. I live in DC, and have mostly good coverage, though not as good as Verizon I think. They get reception on the subway, I do not.

But if you travel internationally, they have a relatively good rate if you call them up. And my monthly bill for everything is extremely low. I think I pay ~$50-60 a month for unlimited everything, though there's like a 2 GB cap on 4G, but I think they're making it roll over for the data you don't use in the future.

and don't plan on leaving. They have a nice family/multi phone plan. I will be paying same price for 2GB more data than I get now, once I renew. The coverage I get with Verizon is worth that. I had other carriers, the coverage and signal strength are the best, for me anyways.
T-Mobile is weird

I've done in-building installations for all of the carriers and T-Mobile is by far the least hands on technologically. Verizon uses their own techs who have to assist us, AT&T outsources to local tech firms but have a dedicated group and T-Mobile uses a company with the absolute dimmest bulbs I've come across.

Their network is great where its working but the number of drops you'll get outside of major markets hardly makes it worth it. In the cell world, you get what you pay for and Verizon is head and shoulders the best network wise, no matter what AT@Ts lying commercials tell you.
Don't know anything about T Mobile

But I'd cut off my leg before I would ever give a nickel to Verizon again. They had the absolute worst customer service I've ever gotten anywhere, from any business.
I have T-mobile as well

but I pay no more than 150 after taxes for 5 lines with 1 - 3 gb each and unlimited calls and text..but I paid for my phones up front..

Their coverage outside NY/NJ and other metro areas is not so good but internet speeds in the metro area are good and their phones are mostly unlocked GSM which allows you to take them to any country and use the phone with a local sim card... You can also use those phones on AT&T...so there is more flexibility with GSM

But now following T-Mobiles footstep Verizon has a cheaper plan as well ...but you have to buy your own phone... I think its 2 lines with 10 gb data for $110.. buying your phone up front is always cheaper than signing a contract for 2 years...I think its their edge plan and the services are the same you get the same LG LTE internet and the same coverage on phone.
FWIW

T-Mobile bought some of Verizon's unused spectrum space and their network will nearly double in size because of it.

Verizon's network is king, but agree, they have some shit customer service. The guy I work with at Verizon on these jobs is an absolute dick head because he can be. I'd like to slap him with a brick.
I've had verizon
pjcas18 : 2/3/2015 9:55 am : link
for 18 years (through acquisition since I began my cell phone career with Bell Atlantic Mobile who Verizon acquired).

So, I'm not a great source of network vs network comparison from experience, but two things I like best about Verizon:

1. I never borrow someone else's phone, when we're in remote places and people have Sprint or AT&T they sometimes use mine though. I can't speak to T-Mobile, I don't know anyone who has it.

2. Their customer service might suck and they could be arrogant a-holes, but I wouldn't know since in almost 19 years I have never called customer service - except one time when they used to have the free phone every two years promo and I wanted to see how many months I had left until my two years was up (and they waived the remaining time and allowed me to get a new phone earlier - not exactly altruistic of them since I signed a 2-year contract).

Hope this helps.
I've been with T-Mobile

since they were Omnipoint. I've had very little issues with them in 16 years and their customer service is by far the best of any carrier. I've heard the horror stories from Verizon and AT&T customers. I've never had those issues.

I love T-Mobile's customer service. Back when I had a limited amount of minutes, if I called, they'd just give me more to keep me from going over. They've always been really easy to work with and helped me with any billing issue or any problems that I have had. One time my credit card expired and I missed a payment or two. When I re-enrolled in the autopayment, they waived any late fees. Top notch customer service.
