Weatherman... Storm Sunday--> Monday???

ShocknAwe80 : 1/30/2015 6:16 pm
The masses must be informed. I am looking at models the appear to show widespread snow of up to a foot across Long Island. What are your thoughts and potential time frame?
Instead of looking at models

Be another storm wed/Thurs next week as well
knock the LI totals down a bit, 5-8", potential for a mix/rain period
WeatherMan : 1/30/2015 9:12 pm : link
higher totals inland southern New England, 8-10" with isolated locations approaching 12".

Jints - not much for accumulations due to an extended period of rain. Start snow, to mix then rain, then mix and ending with snow. Roads might get messy for the drive back.

Hammer - yeah, that flight is not gonna happen.

He is the weatherman!
not at all, it's true to life
WeatherMan : 1/30/2015 9:39 pm : link
and when I'm not available things go unanswered, that's just the way of things. Next couple weeks are going to be hit and miss with regards to me being around, hopefully I'm settled in to a new location by the middle of the month.
Yeah but I bet he didn't envision all the threads asking for
steve in ky : 1/30/2015 9:42 pm : link
personal weather reports when he signed up.
it came to happen after I nailed a few early on
WeatherMan : 1/30/2015 9:54 pm : link
the landfall of Hurricane Wilma occurred shortly after I joined here, there was a thread on it given our multiple posters in FL and I hit the location and intensity of the event dead on. Build a long term track record of not only being accurate but also capable of communicating uncertainty effectively, and things take on a life of their own from there.

said a foot possible for Lehigh Valley...that's our punishment for having a dusting this last go 'round
probably a miss again inland nj
micky : 1/30/2015 10:17 pm : link
.
NJ will get snow from this, just less the further south you go
WeatherMan : 1/30/2015 10:20 pm : link
northern portion of the state could see approach 8", central 4-6", southern not much. NEPA will see some, but it's not the location of the highest totals, that once again will be inland southern New England. Sorry east CT, RI, and east MA.
I like that
feelflows : 1/30/2015 10:22 pm : link
"see some".. beats "8-12"
I'm not going 8-12 there yet
WeatherMan : 1/30/2015 10:24 pm : link
it's moving a bit too fast for me to be confident in that on the periphery of the system.
one will bite me
feelflows : 1/30/2015 10:26 pm : link
I'm just not ready yet. Mid-February storm will be OK. Trap us inside for Valentine's Day.. just not SB night.
Meh..move to upstate NY..
Goin Deep : 1/30/2015 11:27 pm : link
We deal with it all the time.
Airline travel is, however a different issue.

Four weeks to go then March hits.

Where is your new location...last I remember you were looking at south Florida. That was a few months back!

Looks like there's a sharp drop off once you get below New Brunswick

I am so sick of this winter.
This is why I hate the mid-atlantic, we get fucking gyped yet again.

What the hell is it, we're 200+ miles south of North Jersey, we're not at the equator...why do we get passed over constantly?

Is this going to be the whole winter?
this afternoon's euro

of yellow snow
10 - 14 predicted
pjcas18 : 1/31/2015 1:52 pm : link
for my town in MA, on top of the 3 we got yesterday and the 31 we got Tuesday/Wednesday this is going to be a pain. and it's so cold nothing is melting.

Then "don't you go where the huskies go".
when posting those models
WeatherMan : 1/31/2015 2:58 pm : link
folks are just seeing the control run, and not taking into account the ensembles. The base Euro totals are a bit too high, especially with rain/snow line issues. Would take that with a big grain of salt.
Weather Man - DC area
jjgmrg901 : 1/31/2015 3:13 pm : link
Again thanks for all you provide here!! Any idea of what we in the DMV area will see??
no significant accumulations
WeatherMan : 1/31/2015 4:25 pm : link
start snow, but it'll change over fairly quickly to rain washing it away. Ends as snow again, definitely potential for a sloppy commute Monday, but overall you're in the warm sector for most of the event.
thanks, WM
ColHowPepper : 1/31/2015 5:56 pm : link
as always. We're on the edge of NE Westchester/SW Fairfield (Vista, NY + North Stamford).

Even though snow accumulation forecast (8 - 12) less than last Tuesday's estimates, this storm forecast bothers me more than that one because of the sleet/freezing rain component. That means more downed trees, power lines, and harder to get rid of the snow on the driveway.

ugh, plus a bunch of folks coming over at about 6:30 to watch a sporting event

pjcas18 - Milford is going to make history! Stay safe.
ended up a non-event in Lehigh Valley
feelflows : 2/2/2015 10:08 pm : link
2" or so.. some slush, eventual ice on the roads.. but no significant snow.

I'm trying to learn to read these maps/models on my own.. (taking one Meteorology class in college isn't sufficient)..

looking at the Euro model for later this week, things may get interesting!
I wouldn't get worked up just yet
WeatherMan : 2/2/2015 10:16 pm : link
massive ensemble spread, there is little to no confidence in the late week forecast right now.
not getting worked up!
feelflows : 2/2/2015 10:20 pm : link
just proud that I'm understanding how to read these things lol
