UFC 183: Silva vs. Diaz
January 31, 2015 | MGM Grand Garden Arena | Las Vegas, Nevada
Pay-per-view, 10 p.m. ET
Nick Diaz vs.
Anderson Silva – TKO
Fight is interesting because both have been gone for a while and the way Anderson went out… I can’t see Silva using his low leg kicks which would have been a big advantage… If he’s the same fighter, his movement, speed and accuracy should be too much for Diaz… That being said, don’t underestimate Diaz’s chin and cardio in the later rounds… Diaz’s best path to victory is on the ground… But he will stand…
Kelvin Gastelum vs. Tyron Woodley
Probably would have taken Gastelum but it’s too tough to call after he missed weight badly yet again… Sounds like this fight might not even happen… Gastelum is a huge talent but he needs to figure out his weight…
Al Iaquinta vs.
Joe Lauzon – Submission
Tough one to call… Lauzon won’t be able to stand with Iaquinta, but Iaquinta has struggled with excellent grapplers in the past… I see Lauzon weathering the storm and strangling Iaquinta…
Tim Boetsch vs.
Thales Leites – Submission
Thiago Alves vs.
Jordan Mein – Decision
Alves hasn’t looked good in years… Mein is a stud…

Now we finally get to see just how big a pull Ronda Rousey really is... I have my doubts she is a massive superstar draw... I would be surprised if she breaks 300k buys...

No way that card pulls in great #s Rhonda is a draw but without a big co main event I don't see it.
Weidman is getting injured too much. I'm a big fan but WTF?
weidman belfort continues the UFC NYG-like injury luck.
psyched for the fight tonight although i wonder where diaz's head is at

Up his ass. He and his brother for all their immense skill are just not good enough anymore. While other guys are training their asses off and trying to get better they get stoned and whine about their contracts and lack of respect. It's just boring. Shut the fuck up and fight. This was a gift for Nick. anyone else in the top 5 at WW at this point he may not have any shot w. Silva coming off that injury is a bit of a break. I still think it's Silva w a KO or TKO RD 2
Matt. Just agree to disagree. Nate was totally unprepared his last fight. Also no ether Diaz brother has ever tried to work on the holes they have in their games.
They are awesome BJJ guys. Their boxing is superior but they just have not put in the time and energy others have in becoming better fighters.
Case in point Nick claimed GSP cheated because he was prepared for for Nicks roll when down. Anyone whose done BJJ for a few years knows how to defend that roll. Nick does what he does. Fine but don't disrespect opponents because they prepared for you and you don't have the interest in preparing for them. Neither checks kicks or has ever worked at really getting better at wrestling.
Again. Fine but don't tell me you are a dedicated fighter when you don't work at it. They were given a gift and IMO have squandered it. Look at any of their fights. They haven't changes or adapted ever.
How can you say a kick has great work ethic. He's fraught 2 times in 3 years and lost both? He was given a championship fight and lost(it wasn't close) and hasn't been on the ring since. Not sure he even wants to fight professionally. Other than it's the only way he can make money.
Again mad respect for their skill as they IMO half ass their craft and are still near the top of the food chain but dedicated? Just don't see it
As for neither guy "working on holes in their game" that is more a function of working smarter vs harder... The Diaz brothers are ALWAYS going to believe that their BJJ and Boxing skills are enough to get the job done... That does not mean that they haven't put in the "time or energy" into what they believe will make them better fighters... There just aren't (m)any people who would call their work ethic into question... Hard to imagine Jake Shields or Gil Melendez pulling punches on their work ethic... Just about everyone who has ever worked with them has commented on their unparallelled work eithic... Making crazy accusations and the frequency of their fight schedules has nothing to do with anything...
Neither Nick or Nate have ever lost a round Ever LOL. The co main event was boring as shit and the main wasn't much better. I actaully like that Nick tried to make Silva do something other than counter punch. Anderson still had a big advantage on speed but both guys are done IMO as championship contenders.
We'll see. It was interesting what he mentioned about his family and kids after the fight but that was in a very emotional moment.

Don't disagree at all. His breakdown crying was kind of funny when Nick told him to stop. Totally understand it though. Bad enough he got caught in his first fight w Weidman bit the leg break had to mess w his head.
Still though I can't see him doing well in another fight w Wiedman. I don't think he wants to fight Lyoto. That leaves the Jacare or Rockhopper,d assuming they win their next matches. IMO Jacare is someone he wants no part of and Rockhold as well looks to be too much for him at this point as I think both those guys along w Weidman have the size and strength to control the fight. Maybe not on the Anderson of even 3 years ago but on the this 40 year old version.
It will be interesting to see who he gets next.
