Odell's One Handed Catch Record Already Broken

DaddyM89 : 1/31/2015 12:16 am
Iowa's Tevaun Smith was able to do 41 in a minute. Pretty impressive.
Odell's One Handed Catch Record Broken - ( New Window )
I hope

this doesn't become the new "thing."

I was thinking tonight how cool it would be if Beckham's signature one-handed catch became THE play in a future Super Bowl (Super Bowl L - I can dream). But then I thought, "Man I hope we don't lose some playoff game because Odell tries to make a catch with one hand that he could with two."

I cal BS.
Phlegm : 1/31/2015 12:22 am : link
Tom Brady obviously tampered with the balls.
Not surprising at all.
illmatic : 1/31/2015 12:28 am : link
As soon as they advertised it on ESPN, I knew everyone would be trying this.
It's
Arcanum : 1/31/2015 1:28 am : link
Obvious, that the guy throwing the ball, isn't a real QB. He's pretty much floating the ball, instead of actually throwing it. But, I could be wrong

I was actually concerned about this too, at first, but not so much anymore. Given how much time he spends on it, and spent on it even before the Dallas catch, I get the sense it's just old hat to him. It wasn't like he surprised himself with that catch, and now feels some sort of pressure to duplicate it.

OTOH, I think reaching out with one hand actually makes his catch radius wider than it would be if he reached with two, so that could be problematic. He'll reach out for a pass with one hand, because there's literally no way he'd make the catch with two, but he'll miss the catch, and people will be after him for trying to be flashy instead of fundamental, when it really wasn't his fault.
Not that I really care but some of those looked like he
steve in ky : 1/31/2015 2:25 am : link
was simply stopping the ball and then just pushing it in the bucket instead of actually fully catching it. But Maybe Odell did the same, I couldn't say.

Regardless however these guys are just players and it had to be exciting for them so good for them.
Nah, I'd say those were legit catches
BlackLight : 1/31/2015 2:38 am : link
They were able to set a quicker pace too.
I meant to say just college player

Brees also ran out of balls
timintey : 1/31/2015 6:56 am : link
And had to wait for OBJ to throw them back to him which took time off the clock
It is sort of a dopey record.
Randy in CT : 1/31/2015 7:53 am : link
It doesn't translate to performance necessarily in the sport.

The rules were vague--why not have two passers and unlimited (well, you know) balls?

And yeah, each catch needs to be verified in some way.

Did I miss anything?
And btw,
Randy in CT : 1/31/2015 7:54 am : link
I'm willing to bet OBJ tries to beat that kid's record within a week.

I Doubt Visa is going to pay him to do it again so I'm pretty sure he won't bother

Just curious if you are the same poster that used to post as ron in new mexico?
no

I am previously blue baller
Actually I think this kids record is unofficial
Mike in Philly : 1/31/2015 8:50 am : link
I don't think a Guiness rep was there to authenticate the performance.
OK
steve in ky : 1/31/2015 8:51 am : link
Since they were so similar I thought maybe after the hacking it was he and he had trouble signing in and created a new handle.

I think now a days they accept video submissions for approval.
is there a defined distance
spike : 1/31/2015 9:38 am : link
between the passer and the receiver?
This is so dumb
Joey from GlenCove : 1/31/2015 9:40 am : link
Why a minute, why that distance.

Just go win some games next year.
Boooooo

Beckham sucks!
I like how people are upset over nothing.
Geomon : 1/31/2015 10:25 am : link
Seriously, this is nothing. The record means nothing. It was simply a spectacle to watch for people during Super Bowl weekend.

Does anyone here really think OBJ is upset about this record being broken or that he's more focused on shit like this than how he performs next season?
How about,
Doomster : 1/31/2015 1:04 pm : link
off the scoreboard, off the goal post, off the Gatorade bucket, and an over the shoulder one handed catch? Big Mac to the winner....
Is anyone upset?
steve in ky : 1/31/2015 1:05 pm : link
I didn't take anyone's comments as them being upset.
Unofficial

FYI .....

Video isn't enough because of all the variables. Gloves, footballs, yards, etc would have to be verified.

However, it's not like it would be tough to break since a couple mistakes were made that slowed things down.

You can submit video for consideration

At Guinness World Records Challengers, people are attempting and breaking records right now. Just head over to Challengers and pick a challenge or suggest a new one. All you need to do is video your attempt and upload it.

Our Record Adjudicators, stationed at Guinness World Records HQ, will verify your attempt from your video and let you know if you’ve broken the record. If so, your name will appear on Guinness World Records Challengers and you’ll receive your very own world record certificate.

Attempts by video - ( New Window )
I hope they accept it
USAF NYG Fan : 1/31/2015 4:17 pm : link
Since Brees said if someone beat it, they would do it again.
Brees and OBJ were just doing it
SHO'NUFF : 1/31/2015 5:30 pm : link

Not officially...

It's not as I have seen high school players doing this. Just suggests that we have some pretty talented and focused individuals at lower levels now. Should make the game interesting at college and pro level
IMO the only significant record is the number of one-handed TD catches
Marty in Albany : 1/31/2015 7:49 pm : link
People waste a lot of time trying to get into the Guinness Book of World Records. I really don't care who has the world's record for producing the largest piece of snot. Most of the records are about as important.
