NFT: Inexpensive tablet suggestion?

Patrick : 1/31/2015 3:58 pm
As some of you may know my old man is in the middle of a year of chemotherapy. I'd like to buy him a tablet to help kill time while he's "in the chair." Can't afford to break the bank so high end of my budget is $300, ideally I can find one for less than $200.

He'll use it to watch videos and e-mail his old U.S.M.C. buddies. I'm looking for something & gt;8." I can get a refurb kindle Fire 8.9" for like $160 with a one year warranty.

Any thoughts BBI?

Dell's got some newer stuff that is getting great reviews. They went back to being private and instead of trying to make a quick buck, are creating impressive products. They're tablets and laptops are getting great reviews.

Got one for Christmas and I absolutely love it. You can get them brand new for less then $200. Does everything the iPad does but better. I don't remember the exact specs, but they are pretty good. Quad core processor, full HD screen and it has an HDMI port so you can watch movies from your tablet on your TV.

Android has an app that you can get on the internet called Popcorn Time. Has basically any movie/show you can think of for free. That's where the HDMI port is good. You can watch movies still in theaters and most before they hit Did.

You can likely get the Nexus 7 from 2012 for a good price. Solid tablet, and can do all the things an old man would want.

I bought my son an EVGA Tegra Note 7" for his school, and bought my wife a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4.

All three were under $200 and all three are great.

You can often find a refurb tablet on sale for cheap. I got a Sony Xperia tablet for $200 a few months back.

it really depends on what you want it for. I have an early generation one and I love it, but it is in some ways limited as opposed to other tablets.

The Kindle family is great for using Amazon media, their books and video and what not. When paired with Amazon Prime, it's great.

The Kindle is a great Amazon media tool. If that isn't what you're looking for, other options might be better. I'm happy with mine because I use it mostly with Amazon prime.
