This year, but no way is he more valuable to his team then Rodgers. The Texans went 9-7 this year. They would have probably went 7-9 or 8-8 without him.
The Packers went 12-4 this year. They would have probably went 6-10 without Rodgers.
The packers make the playoffs last year with rodgers missing 7 weeks??? And the patriots win 11 games with Matt cassell....
I think Rodgers is more important to his team than Watt but I agree people over exaggerate with qb... They would've won 8-9 games with Rodgers missing considerable time. .. without watt Houston probably wins 4-5 games. ..
The QB position is not underestimated. Putting 2014 Rodgers and Watt aside, the best QBS make the playoffs every year and advance further. The semifinals featured arguably the top 4 QBs in the game. The best defensive players often miss the playoffs. Revis has missed more playoffs than he has played in. Same with Watt. how about Quinn? He's probably the second best lineman in the league and his teams have been mediocre. They would trade him for a top 10 QB in a heartbeat. Suh is the third best and although they made the playoffs he could only take his team so far. Again, any top 10 QB is twice as valuable as Suh.
Alot of the best defensive players (Sherman, Thomas, Bowman, Smith, etc) have been on Seattle, SF, and Baltimore. But they have advanced recently in the playoffs due to an overabundance of talent on D... not necessarily one defensive player carrying them.
Another interesting data point... Peyton Manning gets injured and the Colts go from a perennial 12 plus win team to worst in the league. Peyton should have won MVP that year just to make the point on what his value is and the importance of the position.

Yeah but they went 2-5-1 without him and that was more Detroit's colossal bombing of the division more than anything. That just proves how valuable Rodgers is to the Packers if he were to go down. 38 TDs to 5 INTs is ridiculous. And he does this ever year.
is the most valuable player to just about any team. Therefore, it makes sense that a QB typically wins the league MVP.
What did the Texans do this year with Watt on their team? Nothing. Meanwhile, what do you think would have happened if the teams swapped Watt and Rodgers? My guess is that the Packers become ordinary and the Texans have a chance.
I think if the Texans made the playoffs Watt would've won.
I actually think we are likely to see one sooner rather than later. We're all well aware of how potent and widespread quality offense is in this league. It's getting harder and harder to play defense. I think if and when players have years like Watt had this year, if they're on a playoff team, they have a better chance of winning it now than they would have had at any other time in the history of football... and that by the way makes what LT did even more impressive.
When there are 5 QBs in the postseason, all with 40 TDs 10 INTs and 4500 yards, who do you choose? It's too arbitrary. I think they'll end up canceling each other out one year and a defense player will win it.
when a defensive player elevates his team into the playoffs with a strong probability of it winning the SuperBowl. Combine that with no other surefire QB who happened to stand out that season and it will get done.
If the Texans were a better team I think Watt had a good shot this season.
that even a great defensive player like Watt could not get his team into the playoff. They had a shitty QB. Remove him and put a top QB in there and I bet they make the playoffs. So, that to me means that a D lineman is not as "valuable" as a QB.
LT!
and that year would need to be a down year for ridiculous QB performances.

Watt arguably had the greatest season ever. Guy didn't have a bad game.
