Like him, think he's unfairly maligned, whatever.
How tone deaf do you have to be to decline a request to be interviewed by your broadcast partner for the pregame show on the day of the Super Bowl, given the uproar over Marshawn Lynch not wanting to talk to the media, and given the fact that he said at his "State of the NFL" press conference, just this week, that he was always open to the media, "almost every day"?
Has a commish in the big 4 ever been fired? And why?
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see him thrown out.
The perfect shot.
So long as the cash is flowing, he's fine. Once that cash cow starts to die, Goodell will be gone, quickly.

Never felt that way until this week.

Fay Vincent in 1992, MLB. Selig's predecessor. Technically he resigned after the owners voted that they had "no confidence" in him (18-9). But that's an effective firing.
A better title for Goodell would be GM of the NFL or NFL executive officer. Folks, Goodell is only the messanger. It's the owners you really want to kill.

I generally agree that this is how he, Selig, and Bettman have morphed the job. The NBA guys a bit less so maybe. But there is a big caveat -- the NFL commish is still held out as some defender of the game. If he is just the waterboy for the owners then he shouldnt be dolling out punishment or weighing in on "best interest of the NFL issues" as some sort of neutral.
But, but, but CiP, he's a muttering, stuttering fuck! Ain't he?
