calling him the JPP of TE's. It made so many people expect instant production and domination.. when he really meant that he was very raw with athletic ability.
This was going to be a 2 years in development player under a best case scenario. Reese did not properly factor this into using a 4th rd. in selecting him.
Best case did not happen, I think largely due to injuries in 2013. He is only 1 year behind schedule, but because of the CBA 2015 is a critical year. Because he will be a UFA after next season, Giant fans have to hope he does well, sort of.
by Reese and Ross based on measurables and this need to outsmart everyone by finding a steal. We blew a lot of draft picks because of this tendency. Think Reese was called out on this a few years ago and it may be over now. Still don't get the Bromley pick in the third round though. We will see if that works out next season.
This scrub will get 4 years even though he doesn't deserve 2. Hosley and Teddy Bear Brewer are the same. That scrub Mosley belongs in this group as well.
not a "reach". Check out the 10 players drafted after Robinson. Are they all reaches and bad picks by these GMs?
Robinson was a 6'4" 260lb TE with a 40" vertical and 4.5 40. It was a pick on a rare athlete they felt they could develop. Nothing wrong with going that route at the bottom of round 4.
AR should have been starting to show he's got what it takes. Instead, he was invisible once again, known more for the JPP comparison than anything he's done in the pros.
As TMS said, he's another attempt by Reese to outsmart everyone by going for hidden 'gems' or going for injury diminished players thinking they'll have a rebound career. the tendency is one of the reasons the Giants are a subpar team.
Is it better to pick the round 4 guy with college production that won't translate in NFL?
Again, look at the next 10-20 picks AFTER Robinson was picked in that 4th round. It's slim pickings.
The success rate of a low 4th round pick is very low. Enough of ripping Reese on the pick. Inform yourself about the success rate in this round and the options that were picked immediately after this player.
slash sell him to the fanbase type solution so they won't get hammered for not picking up another one in the draft.
NOTE TO GIANTS: Eli loves his TE's. So SUPPLY him with ONE.
WR not nearly as big of a need no matter where we pick or who's available. Who cares if I have 4 great eggs if I don't have any bacon. Get us some bacon!
while it's not a round you expect to find your starters, 4th is a round you should hope to get some production out of. No guarantees, of course. Teams are built with lunchpail backups/contributors, and there are reasonable expectations that 4th rounders can be such players. AR, like many of Reese's mid round picks are guys who only play if all other options are exhausted.
So, while 4th round picks aren't sell your grandmother valuable, they aren't as throwaway as you seem to make it.
I have high hopes that the coaches see the talent, are developing it, and he will blossom in year 2 as a top tight end. He has the physical tools but was so raw coming out that yes he needed two years to develop.
He missed his rookie OTA's due to college classes. His missed his second year basically due to injury. He was healthy this year and was learning a new offense.
Personally, I'm praying he just busts out. I saw flashes in the pre-season when he went deep down the seem. If he has a strong camp I really hope he produces in his 4th year. Remember, it was Strahan & Toomer who both really busted out in their fourth years.
learn whom to block. I really think it is mental not physical.
The mental part of the game, the instincts as you will, can be taught to a degree but yeah either the player has it in him or he doesn't. Track stars often don't make great players because they simply don't know thee game, how to get open, and all that. Physical talent means a lot but it isn't everything.

So high on him that he barely saw the field in his 3rd season

In case you missed it on the other thread, iirc, last year you said,
"Eric Ebron!"
There might be time for Robinson to develop.
Unbelievable! : )

One, we don't desperately need one..
Two, if your wish were granted, there'd be no OBJ
