Mike Garafolo - Giants and Osi reuniting possible

Danny Kanell : 2/19/2015 12:44 pm
Just saw this on facebook:

Quote:
Mike Garafolo believes its possible to see an Osi Umenyiora reunion with the Giants in 2015. & #8234;#& #8206;giantschat& #8236; & #8234;#& #8206;nygiants& #8236;

Sounds like speculation and no other detail yet but thought it was worth a conversation.

This crossed my mind, too.

I figured he'd want to play for Spags again. Oh, and the Giants.
Maybe. I could see a common interest,
Phlegm : 2/19/2015 12:49 pm : link
Spags and Osi. Osi might like to give it one last shot to go out a winner.
Will he suddenly commit
JonC : 2/19/2015 12:49 pm : link
to playing the run?
I actually just watched his bit on the Giants app
robbieballs2003 : 2/19/2015 12:49 pm : link
It sounds like pure speculation.
Dude had 9 tackles last year
Bluenatic : 2/19/2015 12:49 pm : link
9.
what? WHY??
mattlawson : 2/19/2015 12:49 pm : link
.
What happened last year?
Danny Kanell : 2/19/2015 12:51 pm : link
Looks like he played in all 16 games but in a (very) reserve role? He actually had a pretty good 2013.

Link - ( New Window )
Please tell me this is speculating on a one day contract
David in LA : 2/19/2015 12:51 pm : link
I love Osi, but his play has really gone south over the last few years.
Reason:
old man : 2/19/2015 12:52 pm : link
A 1 day contract to retire a Giant. I'm fine with that.
We'll never give him the $$$ he wants and he will gripe about it.
no thanks.
Victor in CT : 2/19/2015 12:53 pm : link
time to move on. He isn't the Osi of 2005-2011 anymore.
Love Osi
I wanna be Torbor, sucka : 2/19/2015 12:53 pm : link
but no thanks. 2.5 sacks last year as the push rusher on the league's 2nd worst defense in terms of sacks.
How old is he now?

Just playing devil's advocate here
David in LA : 2/19/2015 12:55 pm : link
but 2.5 sacks on the league's 2nd worst defense...how many pass rushing opportunities do you think there have been? I'm guessing not too many pass rushing situations come up when you're playing from behind.
I doubt there is a move
RinR : 2/19/2015 12:56 pm : link
the Giants could make this offseason that I would be less excited about.
Osi is 33, will be 34 in November
wigs in nyc : 2/19/2015 12:57 pm : link
And not that they are of the same calibre, but Strahan was 36 when he retired.
I'll take Osi on a one year vet minimum contract
GiantJake : 2/19/2015 12:59 pm : link
He can come in and compete for a roster spot. If he makes the team...great. If he doesn't, he can retire a Giant.
as opposed to a
fkap : 2/19/2015 12:59 pm : link
Frankie Ferrara type who is holding down the bottom of the rotation, no biggie.

Just don't give him more than vet min, or don't bother.
No thank you.
AnishPatel : 2/19/2015 12:59 pm : link
He is basically done. No need in bringing him back.
waste of a roster spot
UConn4523 : 2/19/2015 1:00 pm : link
even at the vet minimum. No thanks.
Agree, not Thanks
ZogZerg : 2/19/2015 1:05 pm : link

That's not how this team works.

If they sign Osi, he's making the roster and he will see significant snaps, barring him being physically unable to. Competition will not exist in any real way, regardless of what he shows.
I believe he's being hired
Big Blue '56 : 2/19/2015 1:07 pm : link
to head their complaint department..
feels like Dirk Diggler reuniting with Jack Horner

Can't say I'd be excited, but on 3rd and long
CT Charlie : 2/19/2015 1:14 pm : link
if we ended up with Hankins and Shelton coming up the middle, we could do worse than having a cheap Osi-Moore rush on the edge.

I know why I find this so funny – it's a Ziggy!
It is the season for speculation

I would welcome Osi back as a vet min situational pass rusher with open arms!
No.
AcidTest : 2/19/2015 2:08 pm : link
We've brought players back before, but I don't think it's a good idea in this case. Osi would take time away from players like Wynn.
I think we all would take Osi
ANGPASS : 2/19/2015 2:12 pm : link
over Kiwi in that role. Our Ends could be JPP, ayers, moore, osi, and hopefully a stud DE we draft at 9. would be a solid stable of pass rushers.
...
26.2 : 2/19/2015 2:15 pm : link
I have his jersey and an autographed football. for those reasons alone I want him back!
He & the GM hate each other

we're gettin

the band back together!
He is a WASTE
PaulN : 2/19/2015 3:31 pm : link
Of a roster spot at a position that we can not afford to have any waste on, this is pure bullshit.

I don't know if they hate each other, but they definitely had some contentious negotiations, some of them public

But I have no doubt Osi would get over that in about 2 seconds if the Giants really offered him a paycheck to keep playing football at this point
Did he Shit the bed in Atlanta?
Zebra3 : 2/19/2015 3:49 pm : link

is he coming back here

- every other fuckin team in the league if they sign osi
Cool
azogthedefiler : 2/19/2015 4:42 pm : link
I can take that jersey out of storage
IMO bringing back Osi or Tuck
mrvax : 2/19/2015 4:48 pm : link
is going the wrong way. Give those reps to Wynn & Moore and stop this stupid shit now.
Bringing back Tiki is possible too
Gman11 : 2/19/2015 5:01 pm : link
but not likely.
OSI is Washed up

I agree Vax. Osi doesn't bring enough to the table at this point to justify giving him reps that could go to the younger guys.
hmm
giantfan2000 : 2/19/2015 5:26 pm : link
would rather have Tuck back
I think this interview b/w MG and John Schmeelk is the genesis of that
FranknWeezer : 2/19/2015 6:20 pm : link
FYI
All he says is, "what if" the Giants bring back Osi... - ( New Window )
Here is the issue:
Vin_Cuccs : 2/19/2015 6:54 pm : link
Would the team really be willing to use a roster spot on a 33 soon to be 34 edge rusher who had issues versus the run? And who's roster spot wood he take? Pierre-Paul? Moore? Ayers? Wynn?

I'd rather draft and develop a guy. I was a huge Umenyiora fan but he makes no sense here.
Does he still have enough left in
giantgiantfan : 2/19/2015 7:25 pm : link
the tank to be a situational pass rusher?
As a two ring guy, Osi deserves a lot of respect. Reese never seems
Reese's Pieces : 2/19/2015 9:43 pm : link
to take into account the value of having a veteran winner around as a help to the young players.

But I don't know what went on in Atlanta last year. Team has only 22 sacks all year and Osi gets two and a half. Atlanta wanted him to take a pay cut last year, but ended up paying him his full contract amount for 2.5 sacks.

Only way I can see him in the picture is if Moore goes down. Let him compete to be Moore's replacement.

Moore showed improvement last season and this year should tell whether we have a good young DE or another 3rd round draft bust.

I thought Osi was retiring???
TheShade : 2/19/2015 10:21 pm : link
I'm pretty sure I heard that rumor on here or read it somewhere else. He doesn't have much left in the tank.
I think he was "retiring" because he didn't see himself being offered
Reese's Pieces : 2/20/2015 12:11 am : link
employment anywhere. He might change his mind if someone wanted to give him a job.

He had a pretty good season in 2013 for Atlanta. Seven and a half sacks doesn't sound great, but the next highest Falcon had four sacks. Osi must have been doubled a lot. He had three of his forced fumbles and a pick 6.

But last year?
