It is just real embarrassing to me as a Christian when other people come here and draw attention to themselves because of their faith and try and push their faith on people I just don't agree with that and being offensive in the process is just not biblical. I am certainly proud of my faith and if it comes up in the normal conversation in a thread I will usually make a post or two if asked a question or to clarify something like a bible verse etc. that I perceive as being misunderstood or being taken out of context but I don't believe I should be pushing my beliefs on anyone else. I am a pretty devout conservative Christian but I don't believe that a in your face "bulldog" approach is how we are instructed to go through life and felt I had to take acceptation to what took place.

I think one of the most important aspect of anything in life, including religion, is having humility in your thoughts and beliefs. More specifically, I having Epistemic Humility is key in relating to those around you with different ideas and views. I think this is where steve is different from the likes of spock and enoch2021. He practices the characteristics of humility while others seemingly do not. And for that, bravo to steve.

Being teachable is very important and knowing your capabilities is good. The epistemically prudent person will present and share his knowledge in an understandable way and will share it on the level of the intended audience/listener.
Epistemic courage is willing and desiring to learn new material. I know its a very daunting task to try to learn something, especially for the first time. In my current research Ive discovered that I need to go back and re-learn some of my science and teach myself new sciences and mathematics. My current task is learning and becoming proficient in theological German, which is a condition for my current degree. I admit, there are times when I really just dont want to learn this stuff. Its okay to feel overwhelmed at timesits natural. Someone who doesnt feel overwhelmed at times isnt doing enough. The task and virtue here is to be willing and having that longing desire to learn more. Learning never stops and knowledge is so important to every aspect of life and God. Whats the chief end of man? According to the Westminster confession it is to know God and glorify him. Theresso much that is loaded into that role of knowing God. Discover it. The corresponding vice would be the unwillingness and lack of desire to learn. Its being stubborn and rejecting knowledgebeing content with ignorance.
The virtue of epistemic patience dovetails epistemic courage. The epistemically patient person will understand that learning is a process. Sometimes this process is painful. Not all knowledge is an academic knowledge. Knowledge isnt merely book knowledge or memorizing facts or reasoning skills. Knowledge is also religious/moral and experiential. The Christian discovers moral truth; its not invented. This comes in time and can be painful. Like the experiential knowledge of being in a marriage or having a surgery, moral knowledge can be painful (Im not saying marriage is painful dont read into that!). Sometimes we have to feel the pain of loss or personal sufferings to really know love or to value something or someone. In the words of the professor in Good Will Hunting, Sean, played by Robin Williams, True loss only comes when you love something more than you love yourself.
Finally, epistemic justice is giving credit where credit is due. The respective vice would be intellectual piracy. This epistemically just or fair person will be able to recognize truth in other peoples work. You dont always have to be right. Be willing to be corrected and note the truth shared by others. Dont be envious of others work and knowledge as well and dont falsely accuse someone of stealing your ideas. Share knowledge and allow for others to share as well.
As I said above, the Christian practices these virtues in their epistemology. The general virtue is being humble and the general vice would to incorrigible. There may be many reasons why someone has the vice of being incorrigible (or incorrectable), which may be stubbornness, pride, or a lack of desire to learn. The Christian should learn to love to learn and want to learn. After all, we will spend an eternity learning more about God. Why not practice these virtues now and use the gift of mind to honor him?

After reflecting upon the many words here, I have "good news" for you- I will honor your requests to depart and never come back. It was not my intentions to run you off this site, I only wished you would offer an apology for what was a clearly insensitive remark that hurt and offended many people and then just take a break for awhile and just not be in the BBI routine. I once took a break from BBI for a period of something like a year one time and I barely if ever read the site during that time as well as not posting. We have both been here a long time probably getting close to twenty years now and sometimes a nice long break can be beneficial, I know it was for me. I hope that you might reconsider making any absolute claims and maybe leave the door open to the possibility to where you might return again at some point in the future after a healthy break and a renewed outlook.

This decision became even clearer when I read the words from a dear brother in Christ, Steve in ky. I have great respect for Steve, so you guys could thank him for making it clear to me, and for you guys getting the result you obviously want.
Although I know in my heart this is the furthest thing from the truth, obviously my words, both past and present, indicate otherwise to some. I see no reason to defend my words, so I will just let it be at that.
I know some will be looking for me to start a new handle, but it is definitely not my intention to take on a 4th name.
So, I guess this is good bye. This was not about a single insensitive remark for which he could apologize.
It was about a series of offending behaviors over the course of that thread, from lying about whether he was aware of the linking of Jews in Israel to the Rapture by many fundamentalist Christians, to pretending that Messianic Jews love all Jews, to bringing on a hired gun to "prove" that there were other who believe as he does. It was bad behavior in the extreme. You are such a kind soul that you probably didn't focus on it, but it was maddeningly bad behavior.

It is just real embarrassing to me as a Christian when other people come here and draw attention to themselves because of their faith and try and push their faith on people I just don't agree with that and being offensive in the process is just not biblical. I am certainly proud of my faith and if it comes up in the normal conversation in a thread I will usually make a post or two if asked a question or to clarify something like a bible verse etc. that I perceive as being misunderstood or being taken out of context but I don't believe I should be pushing my beliefs on anyone else. I am a pretty devout conservative Christian but I don't believe that a in your face "bulldog" approach is how we are instructed to go through life and felt I had to take acceptation to what took place.

I think one of the most important aspect of anything in life, including religion, is having humility in your thoughts and beliefs. More specifically, I having Epistemic Humility is key in relating to those around you with different ideas and views. I think this is where steve is different from the likes of spock and enoch2021. He practices the characteristics of humility while others seemingly do not. And for that, bravo to steve.

The virtue of epistemic prudence is know when and how to appropriate your knowledge to others. Have you ever noticed that person in class or in church that seems to be the know-it-all, whether they actually are or not? Of course, its worse when theyre simply ignorant of what theyre talking about, but not only is this person annoying but there may be several issues rooted in the flaunting of knowledge. Theres nothing wrong with sharing youre knowledge but, like I said, its how and when you share it. This isnt always the case but there may be underlying reasons for why someone doesnt practice epistemic prudence. Perhaps, the person really is ignorant and feels like he needs to compensate. This person will usually drag out the same point over and over and sometimes doesnt really present a coherent verbiage of what hes trying to say. Secondly, it may be the case that the person does know what hes talking about but presents it in a boastful manner. This person may appear very proud. To avoid such a vice the Christian should be prudent. If you dont know what youre talking about or if youre ignorant of something thats okay! Being teachable is very important and knowing your capabilities is good. The epistemically prudent person will present and share his knowledge in an understandable way and will share it on the level of the intended audience/listener.
Epistemic courage is willing and desiring to learn new material. I know its a very daunting task to try to learn something, especially for the first time. In my current research Ive discovered that I need to go back and re-learn some of my science and teach myself new sciences and mathematics. My current task is learning and becoming proficient in theological German, which is a condition for my current degree. I admit, there are times when I really just dont want to learn this stuff. Its okay to feel overwhelmed at timesits natural. Someone who doesnt feel overwhelmed at times isnt doing enough. The task and virtue here is to be willing and having that longing desire to learn more. Learning never stops and knowledge is so important to every aspect of life and God. Whats the chief end of man? According to the Westminster confession it is to know God and glorify him. Theresso much that is loaded into that role of knowing God. Discover it. The corresponding vice would be the unwillingness and lack of desire to learn. Its being stubborn and rejecting knowledgebeing content with ignorance.
The virtue of epistemic patience dovetails epistemic courage. The epistemically patient person will understand that learning is a process. Sometimes this process is painful. Not all knowledge is an academic knowledge. Knowledge isnt merely book knowledge or memorizing facts or reasoning skills. Knowledge is also religious/moral and experiential. The Christian discovers moral truth; its not invented. This comes in time and can be painful. Like the experiential knowledge of being in a marriage or having a surgery, moral knowledge can be painful (Im not saying marriage is painful dont read into that!). Sometimes we have to feel the pain of loss or personal sufferings to really know love or to value something or someone. In the words of the professor in Good Will Hunting, Sean, played by Robin Williams, True loss only comes when you love something more than you love yourself.
Finally, epistemic justice is giving credit where credit is due. The respective vice would be intellectual piracy. This epistemically just or fair person will be able to recognize truth in other peoples work. You dont always have to be right. Be willing to be corrected and note the truth shared by others. Dont be envious of others work and knowledge as well and dont falsely accuse someone of stealing your ideas. Share knowledge and allow for others to share as well.
As I said above, the Christian practices these virtues in their epistemology. The general virtue is being humble and the general vice would to incorrigible. There may be many reasons why someone has the vice of being incorrigible (or incorrectable), which may be stubbornness, pride, or a lack of desire to learn. The Christian should learn to love to learn and want to learn. After all, we will spend an eternity learning more about God. Why not practice these virtues now and use the gift of mind to honor him?

You went through most of those during that time in what I interpreted just an expression of your mood for the time. It was about a series of offending behaviors over the course of that thread, from lying about whether he was aware of the linking of Jews in Israel to the Rapture by many fundamentalist Christians, to pretending that Messianic Jews love all Jews, to bringing on a hired gun to "prove" that there were other who believe as he does. It was bad behavior in the extreme. You are such a kind soul that you probably didn't focus on it, but it was maddeningly bad behavior.
