NGT - Kevin White

CBSGameFace : 2/20/2015 8:00 pm
I'm watching Kevin White on NFL network with Brian Baldinger and Dan Hellie. What a really nice, well spoken kid. I'm a big fan of the way he high points the ball and I am really on the bandwagon now. 109-1447-10. A legit 6'3" and had a wingspan that dwarfed Baldinger and Baldy is 6'5"!!!

If you get a chance to see this interview, I'm sure you'll come away as impressed as I did. And his first game last season was against Bama and he did not disappoint.

With the 9th pick, the Giants select Kevin White, WR, West Virginia.
Wouldn't make me unhappy.
TC : 2/20/2015 8:05 pm : link
Would be an exciting pick. The kind of player the Giants haven't had since Plax self-destructed.

If White, Beckham and Cruz were on the field together, I wouldn't want to be the opposing DC.
TC...
CBSGameFace : 2/20/2015 8:10 pm : link
My thoughts exactly. eli still needs that big body receiver as he has a tendency to airmail a few passes ever now and again. Plax was the first thought I had.

Watch his Youtube highlights and you will see a young man that has mastered the art of the box out. He high points the ball better than the other receivers with first round grades, IMO.

Check out the hands, too. Fargin sweet!!!!!
one of my 3 favorite targets

Would be very happy
To me the O-line is the most important thing the Giants can address
wgenesis123 : 2/20/2015 8:31 pm : link
this off-season. I still want them to take the BPA at 9, if they draft at 9, and if that is Kevin White, so be it. I could enjoy watching Eli play catch with his WR's all year if he isn't flat on his back. The O-line must be fixed, Eli's window is closing, can't wait for years to get it fixed.

With no guarantee we get a stud OL at 9, I fully expect the Giants to address the position in FA. If a player is available when we are on the clock we can draft them and let them compete. That has always been the way the Giants work. They never want to have any glaring needs entering the draft. I am not saying they always get it done in FA but that is their goal. I don't think our OL is in such disarray like most think. We added two key pieces last offseason in Richburg and Schwartz. Now, both are still question marks entering next year for different reasons but they drafted Richburg and signed Schwartz for a reason. They like both of them and think they will be good players for us. That basically leaves one spot open. IMO, they will sign a solid player and then draft one of these developmental lineman from round three on. That is just the way I see things lining up for us.
He's my top WR

I'd be all for White

Several years of cost-controlled WRs leading up to another SB push sounds dandy to me.

Bah. The Oline is already fixed if the Giants would stop running the ball.
He's made himself some money
Big Rick in FL : 2/20/2015 9:29 pm : link
So far. Came in at 6'3 with the longest arms of any of the top WRs. Also tied for the top bench press. If he runs high 4.4 or low 4.5. He will definitely give Cooper a run for the top WR position.
like Kevin White alot
Coach Mason : 2/20/2015 9:31 pm : link
But Parker is the better size/speed freak with insane upside that'll be hard to pass up.
Unfortunately I doubt
Peter from NH (formerly CT) : 2/20/2015 9:48 pm : link
he is going to last to 9 at this point. Guy would really make the Giants offense dominant.

Believe me when I tell you that there is no bigger proponent of building your team through the Oline than me. Win in the trenches. That is the essence of thIs game, to me, and always will be.

But the NFL is a different game today with passing being king. Most of today's passing schemes are designed to negate the pass rush. Look at Eli's turnaround this past year.

Put White in Randle's position, address the line in FA and go Dline or safety with the second pick, because truth be told, we can't wait for an offensive lineman to mature. Look at Lane Johnson's sacks allowed. Eric Fisher. Etc.

Or trade back and possibly lose out on White, but still pick up Melvin Gordon. Gordon is head and shoulders above the other RBs in this draft, Gurley included, IMO.

Either way, I'm excited about the 9th pick. I see a lot of handwringing over this pick. Reese usually nails first rounders. It's the other six rounds that concern me with him sometimes.
If he's there
BillT : 2/20/2015 9:52 pm : link
He'll be a Giant. The team will have already signed a starting OL in FA. They won't pass him up for an OG or T.
I really hope him and Parker
Big Rick in FL : 2/20/2015 9:56 pm : link
Blow up the combine and go to the Raiders & Jets. I want Cooper as I think he is the best WR in this draft. He was taller then people thought too. I see a bit of Odell in Amari Cooper. Cooper was a better WR in college. His stats were ridiculous with trash at QB.
if not White in the 1st, I say go OL (Flowers, Peat or Scherff)
SHO'NUFF : 2/20/2015 10:04 pm : link
then go with Phillip Dorsett or D. Green-Beckham in the 2nd, if they reach that point.
SHO'NUFF........
CBSGameFace : 2/20/2015 10:23 pm : link
All three of these OT's have warts to me that make them a no-go as the 9th pick.

Didn't Flowers have a torn meniscus?? I do not want damage goods with the 9th pick. I know, that's cold. But whatever. I keep hearing soft and Peat together a lot. Also, I saw him schooled couple times at Stanford. Makes me nervous. Scherff is not a tackle in this league, by any stretch. Not even an RT. Guard? Might be a perennial Pro-Bowler. DBG?? Too many character flags for the GMen.

But if it shook out that way, I wouldn't be mad.

Big Rick, Cooper was insanely productive. He is so smooth and polished I think he is productive from day 1. He would be a dream in this offense with OBJ. This would likely be better than the 2011 tandem of Nicks and Cruz .Eli also will rarely have to worry about wrong routes with these two as his primary targets.

THough I like Parker and White too. I think all 3 are going to be very good #1 level wide receivers.
I think I'm in a minority
CT Charlie : 2/20/2015 11:00 pm : link
but I think good hands should always be a HUGE priority in evaluating receivers -- ahead of strength, vertical, wingspan, and speed. To me, a receiver's job boils down to route running and hands. Be in the right place and catch the ball.

You know, The Combine is interesting. Some folks are into quantification for quantification's sake. Believe it tells the whole story. But I'm not among them.

Some time when a very productive player on a so-so team has good numbers it can reassure clubs that he can bring some of the productivity with him to the NFL. And some people think that if a player hasn't done much, but has great numbers, they just need coaching. But the Giants (Among others.) have proved that rarely true.

But when an outstanding player has great numbers against tough competition, I believe it shows quite a lot. 23 reps from a slender guy with super long arms is fantastic! And evidence that the toughness and physicality that Kevin White displays in games is big time, and for real.

Thickones.

Yup, picked at 9.

Both White and Cooper will be gone....
Milton : 2/21/2015 4:35 am : link
...before the Giants pick. But the good news is that they will make it more likely that the Giants get a lineman that they love at #9 and there will be some really good WR prospects available on day two.

Milt I dont know why you seem borderline obsessed with it NOT being a WR. As Robbie mentioned perhaps you are letting your personal feelings cloud your judgement.

I was a big proponent of an offensive lineman like Peat myself. However, after that pretty horrible showing (relative to the last 5 or 6 combines) for both the OL and TEs, I find it hard to see a logical pick at OL that high up at 9 that carry what Reese looks for both in production and measurables.

Lewan, Tyron Smith, and Solder all carried far superior measurables for the LT position than any of the eligible LTs in this draft.

Having a WR with White's size
Jay on the Island : 2/21/2015 10:09 am : link
and ability would be great but I am really high on Philip Dorsett and I would love it if he is there at 40. I know he will probably go late first but Beckham and Dorsett would wreak havoc on defenses due to their great speed and big play abilities.

The OL was solidifying as the year went along. I don't see the OL as a major weakness at this point. I do see the need for better run-blocking and depth. Both of my concerns may have already been answered with the current OL roster along with FA signings. I also could not see Reese passing on Andrus Peat if he is there at (9). The strength question will be answered at his pro day since he didn't lift at the Combine. Gaines and Kropog looked good until they went to IR and we just signed that behemoth, Bamiro (all OT's). We already have Herman, Snyder and Jones competing for depth as well as FA signings (OG).

To early to say for sure but, I would rather Coates in the 2nd rd, also did 23 lifts and ran 4.36 40 at 6'1" and 212lbs.!
JMHO.

I'm not sure where I contradicted myself. Please explain....

Dguy.....Coates is not the big play WR I'm looking for. Fast as all get out but drops too many passes as he did today at the Combine
.
White just ran a 4.35.......

I believe White can still be on the board making WR a possibility which I would enjoy.

This kid has Reese type pick written all over him. As of right now, with all thngs considered including projected draft slot, my money is on this kid being a Giant.
Trade down

Yep. White is gonna be the first WR off the board. I don't see how he gets past the Jets.
His numbers are great

Even his bench is high.
Like last year, I think we end up with the 3rd WR
Coach Mason : 2/21/2015 4:13 pm : link
off the board. I really like all 3 so would be very happy with any of them.
Having Beckum + Cruz, I think short of a Calvin Johnson like reciever
#10* : 2/21/2015 4:25 pm : link
which I might add the other Beckum kid might be there in the 2nd round who has that type of game supposedly I would have to say the TE position is the most lacking for the Giants.

Maxx Williams could hold that position down for the next 10 years and would stay with the Giants since it's his favorite team. But that's only if a trade down where to occur.
