Dallas would give up their draft to get him and I don't think he is that much of an upgrade over a healthy Murray. Can't underestimate how good Murray is as a RB in the nfl when healthy.
Peterson has been sitting for a year now and Romo and the oline had one of the best years ever in history and they still barely made it out of the 1st round.
Would love to see jerry get away from what made them good and sell off all his draft picks for one player
"A healthy Murray" is the key words. Murray has a history of injuries and it will come back to haunt them. It wasn't this year but maybe next, who knows.
I would love it if Jerry signs Murray to a big fat contract because I don't think Murray is all that special, it's just he runs behind a great OLine.
The cap is increasing and you can maneuver around it in areas, but how on Earth would they be able to afford that? They, also, have a ton of defensive guys plus Bryant to re-sign.
they are not looking to trade him, especially to the Cowboys.
The Vikings would only have a dead money hit of $2,400,000 and a cap saving of $13,000,000 so it wouldn't be a terrible move to trade him if the relationship has completely broken down or the compensation from another team is good.
Would be a stupid move for the Cowboys. Especially if they gave up a high pick. AN older player, with an injury history. Plus, the type of back you don't win with. Very overated, and not a natural back. Incredible athlete, like Herschel Walker, just a straight ahead runner. Murray a better back.

We have to get better against the run in the front 7. Resigning Patterson and bringing Jenkins back won't cut it and even a healthy Jon Beason is a huge question mark. I'm sure Spags will do whatever he can to hide flaws, however that only opens you up in other areas. We have to find another solid DT to pair with Hank and a solid MLB. Let's not even discuss Safety yet, but Safety too will have to be addressed in Free Agency.
would take a drastic pay cut, just to play with Dallas?
I don't think so....
But if he does, it will just be another attraction at the circus that is the Dallas Cowboys...
He is a great runner, but that cap space, what little there is, will be shrinking fast....hard to determine though how much of an upgrade he will be over Murray....Adrian has twice as many career rushing attempts as Murray, and he also will be 30 next season....
Would love to see Dallas taking over his full contract....
had had his own injuries the past couple years, and may not be reinstated right away. I'd almost rather have Dallas give up big picks for him and not have to worry about the continuity Murray had in that offense.
Either way, I don't realy care what happens. This isn't a 26 year old AP.
RE: It would be ironc iif Minnesota could pull reversal of Walker trade
I do believe this is tampering. I just read an article last month about Jerry Jones and Peterson discussing the possibility of him coming to Dallas. Apparently Peterson is from that area. I think this is the reason the Vikings are saying no way will they trade him to Dallas. They are not happy about Jerry Jones filling his head with ideas about coming to Dallas.
Dallas will have to give up mountains of players/picks, plus he gets a lot of money. They are already strapped for resigning players, so this would just hurt them more. Plus, in the end, I don't think his stats would be any better than Murray's were last season. So I don't see the upgrade over what they had.
Yes, he is a magnificent back. However, he'll also be 30 when the season starts and has broken the 2,000 carry mark, at which point a lot of backs start to decline.
Basically, Dallas would have to give up a lot in order to acquire somebody who, while a magnificent football player, probably only has a couple of high-quality years left.
Peterson asking to be traded to Dallas is not tampering. If Jones has merely said that Peterson is a helluva player, that's not tampering either. If you can find a quote from Jones saying that Peterson would look good in a Cowboys uniform that's tampering.
he's wrong, but its one of those things where I don't see evil in the guy's heart. He needed an education on this.
But there's something very wrong about the notion that AP can now just pick and choose where he's going to play next year.
And holding ill-will against the Vikings? Hell they did everything they could to get him back on the field after just one week in the face of logic... until the national media backlash became just too much for them, and Goodell, to overcome. It's not like the Cowboys would have treated the matter any differently, it's not like the NFL would have let the Cowboys treat this case any differently ... especially so soon after Ray Rice.

Funny how you mention Hershel Walker. A trade between the Vikings and the Cowboys for a Hershel Walker-type player. Hmm... where have I heard this before?
I'm not a cap expert and usually defer to Optimus or others, but based on overthecap.com the Cowboys are around 130M on the cap, of 143M.
And they still need to sign:
1. Dez Bryant, if they franchise him that's almost 13M.
there's their cap space.
And they still need to sign or replace:
Demarcus Murray (starting RB)
Doug Free (starting RT)
Henry Melton (starting DT)
Anthony Spender (starting DE)
Bruce Carter (starting OLB)
Rolondo McClain (starting ILB)
Cole Beasley (Slot WR, expected to get a big raise)
Jeremy Parnell (backup RT)
Justin Durant and James Anderson (backup OLBS)
George Selvie (backup DE)
and more.
How do they fit AP in there?
And there doesn't look like many cuts, sure they can restructure players like Romo but that catches up with you eventually unless you get lucky with a Tom Brady whose wife makes your money irrelevant.
Romo has an insane 27M cap number and other than a restructure with Romo there are only a handful of cuts they can make to pick up room and it's like $1M here and there - or they could cut Witten.
can restructure Tyron Smith and Romo for starters. This would add an additional 20 million to the 16 million they have right now.
There are other players Dallas can restructure or cut to get even more cap space. There have been articles written where Dallas can get to 45 to 50 million in cap space if they chose to be very aggressive.
Peterson will not end up in Dallas. By the time Peterson becomes available, Dallas will have made their decision on the RB position. Resign Murray or draft a RB.
If somehow Peterson ended up in Dallas, Dallas would have the best offense in the NFL due to the great balance. Great running game and great passing game.

If they do that would be almost double what Murray is getting.

its clear where AP wants to go if he was free
You have to be joking

I hate this argument. So Peyton Hillis puts up same numbers if on Dallas last year?
And same said about Emmit Smith. [smh]
Either way, I don't realy care what happens. This isn't a 26 year old AP.
That would be all kinds of awesome.
I'm shocked that his rag-tag defense held up well enough to win the division in 2014. They did a fine job with what they had.
BTW: When the hell is Witten finally gunna retire???

There's a big difference between Hillis and special.

My thoughts as well.
