...and didn't die a little bit that day, you have no soul.
Not that I took it personally or anything. I just lost my last trace of innocence, that's all. Thanks for bringing it up, Eric. Now I'll go grind some glass into my eyes, just to relive the full experience.
The older I get, the less sentimental I am about any athlete. At this point, if it's for the good of a team I root for that a player has to go, eh, so be it.
it just seemed so wrong. He was still their best option at QB and they cut him. Also it drove me nuts that he had 199 td passes and would not get number 200. He could have played and got it for someone else, but Simms was a Giant his whole NFL career and did not want that to change.
Phil was the saddest. Terrible way to go and it was a shocker at the time. Assumed he'd get one more year before they turned it over to Brown.
Pepper was the most upsetting. I expected him to be one of the anchors of the D for a few more years. Gave me a bad feeling about Reeves. Good coaches shouldn't need to cut a quality player to send a message like that. Not with a veteran team anyway. And Belichick scooped him right up.
Undrafted FA who played his whole career with the Giants. Was part of the BS penalty at the end of the 2002 playoff game against the 49ers. Had a horrible leg injury the next season which costed him 2 seasons. Came back and became the RG for Giants and was a mainstay on the line helping win the Super Bowl in 2007. Seubert defines what it means to be a Giant.
1-2 days after the Rangers won the Stanley cup. My least favorite nyg pr decision ever. They shit the bed that day.
Cutting Bavaro -- their heads were in the right place as Bavaro seemed cooked but they sure as fuck could have used Bavaro during that 93 season. Anyone want to tell me with certainty that the Giants don't beat dallas in the finale with Bavaro on the field? Eat a dick aaron pierce....
Seriously - while AB has gotten his press, and rightly so.... the day we cut Seubert and O'Hara was a sad day for Giants fans. The right moves, but still sad, especially the way Seubert's career ended gruesomely.
That would be when Dan Reeves cut Pepper Johnson... and replaced him with the likes of Carlton Bailey and Mike "The Human Turnstile" Croel. Well, at least Michael Brooks was a good player.
On another note, someone mentioned Dan Doornink. Well, he's from here and has made a career for himself post-football here as a doctor. His name came up a few years ago during a conversation I had with a work colleague when we were both whining about that god awful experience known as the prostate exam. His side of the conversation went: "Man, you think you've got it bad, my doc is Doctor Dan. Remember him? That dude's got some really big, gnarly fingers."
but it's interesting that Simms never did play anywhere else. He was as competitive as anyone, and was close as I remember going to play in Arizona for Buddy Ryan, but it never happened.
Simms might have been hurt more than we know, and perhaps George Young did make the right move.
We all know how bad Dave Brown was, but that's hindsight. You drafted a kid in the supplemental round, you needed to play him and Simms was way up there in age.
To the playoffs with an average rec core and Hampton as the only true weapon.
Simm got the shaft by every Giants head coach but Perkins.
Parcells chose Brunner who was worse than Dave Brown,Handley chose Hoss over him and in the end Reeves went with the Brown path over Simms.
Simms was not hurt and could have played for other teams but didn't want to be anything but a Giant.
Eli is a better QB but Simms brought this franchise back from the abyss.
All without having a no 1 WR.
But I don't think I'll ever really feel a sting until we let Eli go (if he doesn't leave on his own terms of course).
The nature of football makes it impossible to emotionally slave over these things. It's so common that at this point, I'm almost immune to losing players I enjoyed watching.
All the injuries make it tough to groan about players being cut too. There are so many ways you lose the opportunity to watch players you like that it just doesn't impact me much.
Not that I took it personally or anything. I just lost my last trace of innocence, that's all. Thanks for bringing it up, Eric. Now I'll go grind some glass into my eyes, just to relive the full experience.
Agree that Bavaro cut was heart-rending and McCaffery cut was totally unbelievable.

Once a Giant, always a Giant.
Most Disappointing Cut - Plaxico Burress (Had to happen but still sucked)
Quote:
AB sucked.
thanks for your commentary, I'm sure you were crying in your beer when Cameron - whose name was Derek with the Giants - Wake was cut.
Dude, 1) Tuck wasn't cut. He signed with another team. 2) AB being cut sucked. 3) I prefaced the Wake release with 'In hindsight'. Read pal.
Wow, just wow!

dude, I was simply talking about Bradshaw. The question wasn't what was the worst cut. it was which one were you the saddest to see happen.
So, I agree on Tuck and I never mentioned him, but bradshaw, sucked or not, made me sad to see him cut.
read pal.

Yeah. AB being cut did suck. But good job failing to see my post to Pjcas18 or whatever.

Yeah, I agree. It SUCKED to see AB cut. Sucked, sad...whatever word you wanna use.
AB sucked didn't mean AB being cut sucked.
My apologies.

Simms was damn arbitrary and wrong.
I'm sad hosely hasn't been cut yet

Imagine cutting Eli?
Simms... and why did you have to go there on 10ball

Not an easy decision for sure.
Always brings to mind the fact that Bavaro, Bernard King and Don Mattingly all became shells of themselves in the span of a few years due to injury.
Simm got the shaft by every Giants head coach but Perkins.

They cut him on June 15, 1994, the day after the Rangers won the Stanley Cup. The Knicks played an NBA Finals game that night.
