Seriously - while AB has gotten his press, and rightly so.... the day we cut Seubert and O'Hara was a sad day for Giants fans. The right moves, but still sad, especially the way Seubert's career ended gruesomely.
That would be when Dan Reeves cut Pepper Johnson... and replaced him with the likes of Carlton Bailey and Mike "The Human Turnstile" Croel. Well, at least Michael Brooks was a good player.
On another note, someone mentioned Dan Doornink. Well, he's from here and has made a career for himself post-football here as a doctor. His name came up a few years ago during a conversation I had with a work colleague when we were both whining about that god awful experience known as the prostate exam. His side of the conversation went: "Man, you think you've got it bad, my doc is Doctor Dan. Remember him? That dude's got some really big, gnarly fingers."
but it's interesting that Simms never did play anywhere else. He was as competitive as anyone, and was close as I remember going to play in Arizona for Buddy Ryan, but it never happened.
Simms might have been hurt more than we know, and perhaps George Young did make the right move.
We all know how bad Dave Brown was, but that's hindsight. You drafted a kid in the supplemental round, you needed to play him and Simms was way up there in age.
To the playoffs with an average rec core and Hampton as the only true weapon.
Simm got the shaft by every Giants head coach but Perkins.
Parcells chose Brunner who was worse than Dave Brown,Handley chose Hoss over him and in the end Reeves went with the Brown path over Simms.
Simms was not hurt and could have played for other teams but didn't want to be anything but a Giant.
Eli is a better QB but Simms brought this franchise back from the abyss.
All without having a no 1 WR.
But I don't think I'll ever really feel a sting until we let Eli go (if he doesn't leave on his own terms of course).
The nature of football makes it impossible to emotionally slave over these things. It's so common that at this point, I'm almost immune to losing players I enjoyed watching.
All the injuries make it tough to groan about players being cut too. There are so many ways you lose the opportunity to watch players you like that it just doesn't impact me much.

Simms was damn arbitrary and wrong.

Imagine cutting Eli?
Simms... and why did you have to go there on 10ball

Not an easy decision for sure.
Always brings to mind the fact that Bavaro, Bernard King and Don Mattingly all became shells of themselves in the span of a few years due to injury.

They cut him on June 15, 1994, the day after the Rangers won the Stanley Cup. The Knicks played an NBA Finals game that night.
