would anyone use a third round pick on a G from a DIII school? Because he looked good at a post season bowl "game," and the combine? Congratulations to him for doing everything he can to improve his draft status. And he does deserve to be drafted. But I'd be upset if the Giants took him before the fifth round. He's a DIII player who doesn't even project to tackle IIRC.
football players and their ability to play in the NFL, some names to consider:
Fred Jackson RB Buffalo Bills
London Fletcher pro-bowl LB multiple teams
Andy Studabaker LB Indianapolis (would probably start for the GMEN)
Pierre Garcon WR Washington
So yeah, I'd spend anywhere from a 3-5th round pick on Marpet if the scouts think he has the goods. Word is he proved he belonged during the senior bowl.
Marpet had to dominate enough at Hobart to get a senior bowl invite. By the end he was rated the 2nd toughest interior o-lineman on the North squad after only Laken Tomlinson. There's some footage around of him stoning Shelton in one on one drills. Tomlinson, Garcia, and D3 Marpet were the only guys that could handle his power.
We don't typically go for those plodding but super-strong OGs. If they see something special in him I'd be fine with a 3rd round pick...he can't possibly be as bad as Jayron Hosley or some of our other horrid 3rd rounders.

I suspect Marpet will be harder to grade because of competition but on the flip side he hasn't been exposed to the amount of training and coaching permitted by Div. I. Don't know about the Liberty League but many of these conferences have alot tougher rules than NCAA DIII regulations.
The fact that he showed up so well prepared says alot about his character and athleticism.

What a ridiculous post. So just because he went to a D3 school (not knowing his circumstance at all), that should knock him down 2-3 rounds in your mind, despite his obvious talent? You can add the All-Pro Guard Jahri Evans who played for D3 Bloomsburg to Emil's list as well.
draft him is cool with me. Don't think that would be 1 or 2, so Im good with a 3rd round pick. Big dude, moved well in drills, looked very fluid. Wasnt at the senior bowl and the combine just to create a feel good story.
I haven't seen him play and can't find any videos of him,

No need to be insulting. Calm down. It's just a sports board. Nobody insulted your family.
Marpet is a day three pick for me, preferably fifth, but certainly no higher than the fourth round. Period. Somebody might well take him on day two, but I wouldn't. The jump from DIII to the NFL is galactic. That doesn't change because a handful of players successfully made that jump. They are the very rare exception, not the norm. Marpet is also strictly a guard.
Let's also remember that the OL on this team needs a lot of new bodies. The starting unit might be OK assuming: (1) we find a quality LG in FA or the draft, (2) Richburg plays well in his first year at center, (3) Schwartz stays healthy, and (4) Pugh has a bounce back year.
But even if all that happens, we have no depth. Brewer is gone. Brown was cut during the season. Reynolds is at best a journeyman, and shouldn't be on the team. Neither should Jerry. Herman and Mosley couldn't even crack the lineup, despite who was in front of them. Our backup center might be the kid from Canada, who has never played in the league. Right now, Rogers Gaines might be the best of the backup OL.
This team needs three or four new OL, including at least two or three guys who can start. You take a guy like Marpet if you already have seven or eight good OL, so you can groom him for a year. We also have a ton of other needs at other positions.
Somebody on another Marpet thread said they would take him over Ogbuehi. Crazy. Ogbuehi might be able to play LT in the NFL. He has gone up against the best college players in the country. Even if he has to sit for a year because of his torn ACL, you take him over Marpet.
Round four is the absolute earliest I would consider Marpet.
Larry Allen didn't do too bad coming out of Sonoma State.
Marpet seems like a great athlete who is also very bright and hard working. If we drafted him, I'd trust our scouts and look forward to seeing him play.

he knows a good opportunity when he sees one. I would not mind him in the 3rd round but I doubt he lasts that far.

He's probably a better CB than Hosley is. :-)

Didn't even mention Ramses Barden!
on that new "dating" site?
Marpet or dragon?
Ouch. But true.
