NFT: Bose Quiet Comfort 25: yay or nay?

santacruzom : 2/25/2015 4:32 pm
I bought a pair of these from a Best Buy vending machine at the airport, half to try out the headphones and half to check out the vending machine. And I'm not so sure I like them. They definitely filter noise very well. Trouble is, I'm not sure I like the sound. Something is off -- I'd say it sounds a bit sterile to me.

I've read in places that it's something you adapt to with use. Any opinions? I've got 27 days left to try them out.
Sound is pretty good

I prefer wireless over active noise canceling headphones so I just switched to the Bose SoundLink Bluetooth headphones and they're fantastic.
A couple things

Bose although popular and have decent sound not my first choice from an audio quality standpoint. Secondly, like with all headphones they need to go through a "burn in" period. You will find the more you use them the better they should sound.
Not a fan of Bose in general

and I agree with you on the sound on these, but I don't think I've found a better pair of active noise canceling headphones. There are ones with better sound that don't cancel as well, but nothing that is the complete package of form factor, noise canceling and sound that does it better than Bose.
hmm

you bought $300 headphones partly to check out the vending machine? lol what did you expect to happen?

Agree, Bose probably leads the pack for this type of a headphone.
yea

or nay.
Based on my months of use... QC 15 has better (fuller/deeper) sound
ballanda : 2/25/2015 6:23 pm : link
But QC 25 has better noise cancellation.

And to the list of pros I would add: comfort. Man, these are comfortable as shit.
Bose has the best noise reduction technology

sound quality wise they are way overpriced though.

I expected to insert my credit card, at which point a robotic arm would whir into motion and carefully but awesomely deposit the headphones into a recepticle from which I could retrieve them.

The vending machine was great, and the headphones might be growing on me.

So you bought a pair of noise CANCELING headphones and your not happy with their sound reproduction. Doesn't that strike anyone else as odd?

You should buy noise canceling headphones if you want silence.

If you want great sound, buy them from a company known for great sound like Bowers & Wilkins, or Senheiser or AKG. These companies are known for their performance not their silence.
i was on a quest to

find wireless headphones with ANC and the market is really small. I ended up with the Beats Studio Wireless. I know, I know - overpriced garbage. That said - the sound is fine -i'm certainly no audiophile - and the absence of a cord when i'm on a plane is excellent - as is the noise-cancelling.

I had my Bose QC 3's for over 10 years and they still work great but i wanted to check out the wireless option.

Not having a wire in your way is absolutely the way to go. Works great with all of my Android devices.
I disagree that you want noise cancelling
buford : 2/26/2015 8:18 pm : link
headphones for silence. You want to block out outside noise so you can enjoy the music or movie you are listening to. I have the Bose QC. I love them. At work I wear them as regular headphones. But on two recent plane trips, I used the noise cancelling and it worked very well. It eliminate all of the plane noise and all I could hear was the movie/music.

You should try listening to music with a set of Sennheisers on the BART. That'll learn ya.
