@MikeGarafolo
Cofield was due $5m in total compensation this year. He missed 8 games last year after missing only 1 the first eight years of his career.
was just a solid pro. He was your typical lunch pail guy. Very glad he got the chance to make some money and it would seem to make sense to bring him in for a physical at least. Markus Kuhn is the 4th DT going into 2015 and he will be 29 by the time the season starts. If Cofield is healthy he would be a significant upgrade along the DL. I doubt he commands a big contract at this point in his career.
and you can be sure NYG wasn't happy with some of public remarks. He would be an interesting re-add instead of retaining Patterson or Kuhn. Bromley is going to be expected to make some waves too.
by the lapse in normal FA rights that came with the uncapped year before the last CBA update. The Giants took advantage, holding him at a RFA-tender salary for an extra year before he could get his big cash-in veteran deal.
Very rarely do the Giants go back and bring someone in again.
2 inches taller, 2 years younger, and 2 seasons worth of less wear and tear. Also coming off a 5.0 sack season before Donald ate into his playing time last year.

One year younger, but you are correct. Langford is a better option.

Technically closer to 2 than 1 year. Barry is Mar' 84 and Langford is Jan' 86.
Considering that the Giants have nothing behind Hankins at 1-tech...
...Cofield seems like a natural tryout. He'll be 31 in March, which is still a year younger than Cullen Jenkins was when they signed him to start. Although players age at different rates, there isn't much evidence that Cofield has broken down yet.
Of course, a young prospect would be better for the team's long-term direction, but what's on the roster? Dominique Hamilton? He's 26, and couldn't make the team Cofield was on.
The Giants have a lot of holes, and only eight draft picks. Everything is on the table. And unlike Chris Canty, Cofield was a fixture while Spagnuolo was here.

Sure, it makes some sense from the team's perspective, but, if he's healthy, I think Barry would rather go to a team that doesn't have a very good 23-year-old locked into the starting spot in his most natural position. A team with a more vacant 1-tech/NT position is probably going to be able to offer him a bit more than the Giants would.
For all we know, he might still command starter pay somewhere. Or he might want to go home and finish his career with the Browns, or return to the Chicago area with the Bears. Any discussion of Cofield signing here would be predicated on the Giants being his best option - professionally and personally.
As for any bitterness surrounding his departure, I think it was Brandon Jacobs who said he had to leave to learn that the grass isn't always greener...
Looks like Tuck is doing a full-arm Fosse there. For spirit fingers, wouldn't a well-coached cheerleader stabilize the palms and forearms for a more dramatic, "suspenseful" effect?

Given that he's healthy, I could see him as a possible substitution for, say, Patterson or Kuhn. Dollars would (should) determine any action there.
Jenkins MIGHT make the roster as a rotational guy. I just don't think he is capable of starting any more.
Patterson and Kuhn are fodder. I do believe Kuhn makes the team though as he is pretty good on specials, is in his fourth year (cheap still) and was raw out of college (upside still?).

Anyone recall that? Was that a year or two ago???
Bad high ankle sprain I believe
And Will Hill...
I'd imagine he'd be welcomed back with open arms for a reasonable price.
Brandon Jacobs, Mario Manningham, and Aaron Ross disagree with you.

ROSTER MOVES: Redskins re-sign T Tom Compton; released DE Stephen Bowen & DL Barry Cofield.

Not that I'm into that stuff.
I think its more about money then performance.
He is better then Kuhn and Patterson.

It is a young man's game. The wear and tear on a 30 year old, makes it unlikely he would be close to the player he was when he left.
He starts for us if signed. Period.
