1st two picks

NY-JINTS : 2/27/2015 2:09 pm
I know the team has a lot of holes to fill, but I feel like the front office is going to draft an O-Lineman early after watching the Cowboys man handle our D-Line twice this past season. Also, Reese loves his pass rushers so I have another gut feeling that one will be taken in the first two rounds. My question is: what order of players in the draft would you rather have? An o-lineman in the first and a d-lineman in the second, or, a d-lineman in the first and an o-lineman in the second.
Say one of the top tier pass rushers are available at 9. Either Randy Gregory, Vic Beasley, Shane Ray, or Dante Fowler. Some of these players don't really fit into a 4-3 defense but I feel like they all have a higher upside than the offensive lineman who will be available. After these defensive ends get drafted, there seems to be a bigger drop-off in talent compared to the offensive lineman. The top 10 o-lineman all have potential to be great players in the NFL. So my reasoning is to draft Randy Gregory, or another DE in the first, then take either TJ Clemmings, Jake Fisher, Ereck Flowers or Cedric Ogbuehi in the 2nd. I feel like this would be the most logical conclusion. Now if you take Brandon Scherff, La'el Collins, or Andrus Peat at 9, then you could grab Preston Smith, Nate Orchard, or Owa Odighizuwa in the second. I would be happy with both of these choices come draft day, but I think the first option is the better one.

What do you guys think?
It doesn't matter

as long as they get some help for both lines fairly early in the draft.

Don't wait until later on the third day to start looking for linemen.
Somewhere

in this draft, I want a big run stuffing DT. I don't care if it's just a "phone booth" guy with limited down the line speed and pass rushing ability. Just somebody who can clog up the run. Hankins is one of the best in that regard, but we need another, similar, player, even if he isn't quite as good.
They don't pick positions in a vacuum

As it happens it appears the draft could fall your way early.

I'd go Peat or Scherff and then Odi, very happily.
I'll be happy w whomever they pick

Especially in first few rounds

Have done well there. Need to hit on mid round ones
As JonC said, it depends who's on the board.

Ideally, you'd like it to break DL-OL, then continue as follows, for an optimal balance of need and value:
1. Leonard Williams, DT, USC
2. Brandon Scherff, OL, Iowa
3. Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama
4. Dante Fowler Jr., DE, Florida
5. Vic Beasley, OLB, Clemson
6. Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan St.
7. Landon Collins, SS, Alabama
7. Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin
UDFA Maxx Williams, TE, Minnesota
I saw a draft rating earlier today

that didn't rank any of the OL prospects in the top 10. If the Giants rankings are similar, I think they will wait until the second round for OL.
I think the Giants will sign a quality OL Iin FA

And not take one in the draft until the 3rd round at the ealiest if even that early. 4th round or later is my guess.
I agree with your Dallas comments

NYG management must be thinking about how they're going to stop that massive and talented O-Line in Big D. For that reason, give me DL and DL in rounds 1 and 2. Give me Shelton in Round 1 and Preston Smith in Round 2.

And address OL in FA. If you trust Beatty and Pugh at tackles (as I do) and you believe in Schwartz and Richburg at OG, C (as I think I do), you're one OG starter and another depth signing from having a solid Oline heading into next season.
Trade down in the first. Get an additional second rounder

are gone before 9. I'm going with Scherff right now though it could change from March 7 on.
Not sure if Peat

should even be on the radar. We need a nasty SOB on this line. If we draft a guy early and he's good, chances are he'd be here for years. He must be a very good run blocker.

And our TEs had f'ing better learn to block. If you have the size and strength, there's no reason not to excel at blocking unless you're a pansy.
Nice

to see Melvin Gordon in the top 7....

Need vs. BPA......He might be both.
Isn't
