Trade our 2nd and 3rd rd pick to get back into the 1st?

jeremysgiants : 2/27/2015 4:01 pm
According to the draft value chart if we traded our 2nd and 3rd rd pick we could possibly get back up to pick 25 or so in the first. Of course a team would have to be willing to do the trade but would you if we had the chance? Who would you target at 9 and 25? I would take the BPA at 9 such as Cooper/White/Shelton and then get the best Offensive Lineman available with the late first.
why though.

Youre talking about a high 2nd and 3rd pick - with all the holes on this team.

I'd rather keep the picks.

Draft is deep at multiple positions. Why trade two picks for one pick that might have the same draft grade or in the same area. No thanks
This team needs more picks, not less.

You would be

better off trading out of 9 and picking up an additional 2 round pick.
The only way that would make any sense...
Big Blue Blogger : 2/27/2015 4:07 pm : link
...is if there were exactly one player left on a tier of their board, with a big f*cking drop-off to the next level.

Exactly. This team is not one or two players away. We have weaknesses at multiple positions. We need all the picks we can get and these players have to perform.
Rounds 1,2,3
mrvax : 2/27/2015 4:11 pm : link
I consider premium picks. The team needs young good players to make up for multiple bad and unfortunate drafts.

I'd hold 'em.
And even in that one scenario where it would make sense...
Big Blue Blogger : 2/27/2015 4:12 pm : link
...you might end up spending two picks on the next Sinorice Moss. At least with the Moss trade, the third-round pick Accorsi blew was an extra one from the earlier trade-down.
Are we one player away
blueblood : 2/27/2015 4:20 pm : link
No we have lots of holes.. we need to keep rebuilding.. and you dont give away draft picks to do it.
It all depends on value
Milton : 2/27/2015 4:24 pm : link
If the Giants have a guy they debated over with the 9th pick who is still available with the 25th pick, maybe it's worth it, especially if it's at a position where they don't like their options later in the draft.
As for us being one or two players away...
Milton : 2/27/2015 4:27 pm : link
We're not "any" players away. It's all a matter of good health and players playing up to their potential. If OBJ, Cruz, Schwartz, Jennings, and Prince had been healthy from training camp on, who is to say how far the Giants could've gone last year?
Depending on how FA goes...
MotownGIANTS : 2/27/2015 4:30 pm : link
trading picks to get to blue chips vs 1 blue and 1 red and a maybe red is not a bad idea ... depending on the positions you are getting. Say for example we are forced to pick a skilled position at 9 due to how the draft falls (WR). But we can then still get a OL/DL/LB at slipped at value in that mid 20 range then it might be worth it. As it has been stated we are not 1 or 2 players away BUT you dont pass up chances to solidify a spot maybe even 2 because of that. If it really is a 2 yr rebuild to contend for the SB then its not bad...yr 1 you get some stud groom yr 2 had more depth and an additional stud and go for broke. I expect this team to make a step forward and fight for the division and an early round playoff exit being realistic .. but year after we should be in the talks about it can happen....keeping a 2nd and 3rd does not harm that 1 yr window definitely not that yr 2. This is being optimistic that we get 2 blue chips that solidify the area they are selected for.

How many players away were the Giants when they began the 2007 and 2011 seasons? How many years away were they?

The Giants are zero players away from contending for a Super Bowl. They could do it with the roster they have now if they just have the same kind of luck they had in 2007 and 2011. And if they have the same kind of luck they had in 2013 and 2014, it won't matter how many players they add.

I'm not saying there isn't plenty of room for improvement across the roster, but that's true of every team in the NFL. The better your roster, the less good luck you need. But there are no great teams which don't need any luck and only four or five teams in which all the luck in the world isn't going to get them to the Super Bowl. And the Giants aren't one of those four or five teams.
No.

I would consider that

For a third next year not this year. But doubt they love anyone that much. There would be a lot of intriguing players at that point to turn around this franchise.
If you were desperate for a QB and one you believed in was there at 25
wgenesis123 : 2/27/2015 7:37 pm : link
than you might make that trade. That however is not the Giants situation.

Milton, I think you're one of 6 people who think that if the Giants were healthy last year they would have been a good playoff team. I'm not one of the other 5, btw

The roster they have now, has no JPP, Rolle, Kiwi, etc. There is not one starting safety on this team....there is no depth on this roster to handle injuries....one of the worst linebacking groups in the NFL.....one starter in the DL.....

Zero players away from contending for a Super Bowl?
If Amari Cooper is there you nab him and laugh at all the
SGMen : 2/27/2015 10:55 pm : link
teams that passed him up due to combine or new hot guy on the board. We are deeper at WR than at other positions but my gut tells me he is a high value, low risk guy who comes in polished and ready.

Imagine a four WR set, short pass game, with a healthy & effective Cruz, OBJ, Randle and Cooper? 3 steps and fire?

In today's NFL, you need playmakers at the wideout position. Get two UFA lineman and draft a lineman in round 2. Hope that our young players develop as well.

I mean, if Cooper is the goods we are really set for 2016 with OBJ and Cooper. Randle could walk and Cruz, if not 100%, could be asked to take a paycut to stay. I mean, we need a great pick at #9 and another one at #40. I know, no-brainer but I can dream BIG cause it is pre-draft season.

Name all the starters the 3rd round has produced since we drafted Eli.......

If someone approached us, and we saw a guy near the end of the first round that shouldn't be there, yeah, you jump on it.....it's not the number of bodies, it's the talent in them....
hopefully

you aren't drafting at 9 next year....take the absolute best player regardless of position.

Tuck.......pretty good player......team captain,etc.

Manningham.......pretty good player........winning super bowl play, etc.

Off the top of my head

JPP will be tagged in the next two days and the rest will be replaced via free agency and the draft. My point isn't that there isn't work to be done in the off-season to improve the current state of the roster, it's that this isn't some kind of rebuilding year. Given a little luck in the injury department, I fully expect the Giants to be competing for the Super Bowl this year.
As a fellow Jeremy, I must say...

There is damn near zero chance the giants end up with 2 first round picks this year. That is fantasy.

Also, how could anyone watch this team the past two seasons and come away with the notion that we are close to being a superbowl team that has had "bad luck"? There is more wrong than injuries and little hope we will be healthy next year..its not luck.
With Eli
Metnut : 3/1/2015 12:51 pm : link
getting close to the end of his prime, I wouldn't mind "borrowing" a bit from the future and trading a 2016 first to get back into the end of the first round, or beginning of the second round, this year if there's player our front office really believes in.
It'll be Easier to Trade Up than Down
HugeS : 3/1/2015 1:18 pm : link
Being such a red chip draft it'll be easier to find a trading partner who wants to stockpile picks than somebody trying to get in a more premium spot. That being said, it'll all depend on how many holes in the roster the giants can fill in free agency. Lately it seems they've had such mixed success in the second/third round that maybe trading up for a guy they view on a higher tier might not be such a bad idea.
pretty flat draft from the middle of one to
