It is close to becoming a ghost town. Lots of competition now due to other casinos opening in virtually every surrounding state. Lots of other factors combined with this leading to the closures and bankruptcies.
Some have suggested that sports gambling would help. Another far fetched idea is legalized prostitution within the city limits of AC.
What are some of your ideas as to how to save Atlantic City? Is it even possible?
I also think NJ turning into a pussy state by not allowing smoking in their casinos AND in combination with casinos in surrounding states AC is not the unique destination it once was. I used to live in Galloway in 2008 and some of the stories that I've heard and the people I knew....I'm actually quite glad they got laid off.
I think 7 years or so later, 3 out of the 6 or 7 people from that night are no longer alive, including the black kid. Smoke this! I'll just enjoy my life.

Why, yes. Yes, he is.
Kidnappings and cliff diving?
It's never going to be Vegas, but there are some positive signs. The recession hurt the city badly. I still go every month or two to play some games and hang out. It helps that I don't have to pay for rooms anymore. IMO, that was another huge mistake they made. $350+ for a Friday OR Saturday night is insane pricing for those resorts in AC. For literally $100 more you can fly to Vegas. Where would you rather go?
Still, I'm hopeful they can continue to make some changes and keep the place running. It's a good time in the summer on the boardwalk.
Maybe AC needs at least one of those casinos on the boardwalk to do something different. Possibly turn it into one of those indoor water park themed hotels like the Great Wolf Lodge. The kids can play in there all day with lifeguards while the parents lose their college money.
They need to follow what Coney Island has done with their broad walk, filling it with family friendly activities, while keeping visitors safe with prominent police presence.
Good point about the golf courses. One of the nicest courses I have played at was near Ocean City MD. It was at sea level on the bay with all of these little islands and bridges with great views. Really cool and that can be replicated on the back bay area of AC. You have to drive too far to get a round of golf in if you are in AC.
Agreed that one BIG family-friendly attraction could change the scene dramatically. The Tanger Outlets there draw the female crowd pretty nicely. The men have all sorts of options. They need to find things for the younger crowd.
Still, the profit bumps recently are a positive sign, and to be honest, I've enjoyed AC a bit more since Trump, Atlantic Club, Showboat and Revel have gone under. They have to do SOMETHING with the Revel property...it's so beautiful. A complete tragedy that it went under. It's a $2B albatross at the north end of the boardwalk. Crazy.
Excuse me, Stockton UNIVERSITY.
I think a friend of mine went for an interview there and he told me the process consisted of them tossing around yarn? What the fuck is the purpose of that? I went into Revel only once in Feb 2012 when they were building it. The place was a disaster.

I've been saying this for awhile - they don't all have to do it, but one of them should market directly to families and build some sort of indoor water or amusement park. They'd be tapping into a huge market that probably doesn't even give AC a second thought at this point. The beach during the summer would be the icing on the sundae.
2 Problems solved.
Your story should be made into a commercial. I do not see any advertising that talks about this.
And for the Federal Government to allow sports betting in only this or that jurisdiction violates the basic principles of equal protection under the law. To allow one thing at the Federal level to one population, is to allow it to all.
It has never been their right to choose. It's for localities and States to choose.

Sports betting will not save AC. If NJ fights the feds and wins, all it means is that any state can allow sports betting. Which means all of those casinos in PA and NY that have been stealing AC's business will just pressure PA and NY legislatures to allow sports betting. Which would completely defeat the "advantage" sports betting gave AC. If AC gets sports betting, I predict they would have < 5 years before one of those other states starts allowing it.
I can go to Vegas and stay in a much nicer place for 1/3 the money and have no issues finding a great place to eat

It is fucking tiresome with him trolling every thread.

You are not wrong about everything you said after "I think it is way too late to save it". Possibly too late to save it as a gambling destination alone. However, what AC has that you cannot recreate elsewhere is that beachfront. It will take creativity to turn it into something NEW and different to attract tourists.
That's what they should have been dong over the last 35 years. They had a golden opportunity to turn AC into a resort destination that was much more than gambling. They had a huge windfall providing the capital to do that. That opportunity is gone. Who is going to provide the capital needed to make it that now?
