used to see Mace all the time at St john's games watching anthony mason jr. He was always very nice to the fans who never forgot the knicks glory days. RIP Mace.
I met Mase with my brother at the All-Star Cafe about 20 years ago (strangely enough Shawn Michaels was there eating lunch that day too). Mason was very nice to us but the thing that always stands out was the tag on his shirt reading "XXXXL" RIP to a great Knick Link - ( New Window )

was on the night he was getting a humanitarian award against the Sixers during halftime. He and Manute Bol (a former winner) nearly came to blows at center court and Marv joking said two humanitarians about to go at it. When the NBA was physical and a delight. Wow hard to believe both are gone already.

I don't want to over-romanticize the 1990s Knicks today. But I never learned more about heart and perseverance than I learned from that team
The first sports jersey I owned was an Anthony Mason knicks blue.
Heart attacks and congestive heart failure
RIP Mase
