I admit,I had a brief dalliance with Gang Green in 1968-69. It was a magical time, plus the Giants (other than Fran and Homer) were boring.
Plus i hated Baltimore sports teams..so i carried my affair over to the Mets.
Then in 1970, it was all over. Munson was a rookie, and it was back to Phil, Frank, and Bill and the Yankees, and Glickman, Lynch and Big Blue..and there was this young RB out of Michigan by the name of Ron Johnson...
The Jets and non-football threads just seem to go together like PB & J.
Dad was a Giants fan at the time and I eventually jumped on board but that was a very dark era of NY Giants football.
I used to attend the Jersey City Jets games back then every week at the old Roosevelt Stadium. My older cousin used to take me, back then even high school football was huge, he attended St. Micheals from Union City, they had a huge rivalry with North Bergen, both were perennial powers back then, so going to the Jersey Jets games with my older cousin was really cool.
Bottom line was that I was always a Giants fan, but the brief period when Namath played for the Jets, I admit that I did also like the Jets too. There was no conflict to it as I could see. I loved sports, played baseball in three leagues, and I could not get enough of all sports. It was my entire life. I remember how huge it was when Steve Spurrier came out of college also, he was not on the level of Namath, but he was also huge back then. But the cool college QB's coming to the pro's were of great interest to me back then. Jim Plunkett from Stanford also was huge also.

This x's 100. Fk anything Jets related.
but it was a different world then. For example, I respected and loathed the Jets.
And, like everyone else, I knew the downward spiral was temporary and was fated to end with the drafting of Rich Buzin.
I also remember a pass that was ruled a lateral and recovered by the Jets as the Raiders were moving down the field.
However when Mike Battle hurdled a Giant in an exhibition game in New Haven I was back to being a Giant fan only
Rooting for any team does not make me less of a Giants or Yankees fan.
My Tom Seaver jersey hangs in my closet next to my Paul O'Niell, Eli Manning and Joe Namath jerseys. And I proudly wear them all.
(My Mickey Mantle, Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth jerseys have gotten too small for me. They are in storage. They'll probably fit me when I'm 85.)
I jumped on the Gmen and when they went all the way and they had my favorite color Blue I said this is it. I'm done with Joe Walton and Kenny O'Brien.
Come on.
We're talking an era when every bottom dwelling high school team thought they had a chance against the giants.
I don't understand why if you are from the NY area and our Giants aren't in it, you wouldn't want your little sister to win. Jets & their fans don't bother me at all. They never amount to anything and their long suffering fans know that.
There were many Yanks fan who switched that year. Yanks and Jints in the toilet, but I stayed and lord knows it paid off...
