NFT: Report: Rangers Acquire Keith Yandle

nyjuggernaut2 : 3/1/2015 4:24 pm
Early rumor going around is Duclair might be part of the package. Hope that's not true.

'I believe Girardi has a no trade clause'
schabadoo : 3/3/2015 11:14 am : link
I think it's a partial, like only for the first three years. I could be wrong on that.

I think you could move Boyle in the offseason. Maybe Mcllrath will be ready.
MAB
JonC : 3/3/2015 11:14 am : link
Understood RE: Girardi, but I meant him instead of Staal and also to try and move or buyout Boyle.
Girardi has a full NTC in the first three years of the deal
BrettNYG10 : 3/3/2015 11:15 am : link
And a modified one in the last three.
.
arcarsenal : 3/3/2015 11:16 am : link
Girardi is going to be nearly impossible to move.
Holy fuck
Fish : 3/3/2015 11:20 am : link
this has been discussed already...like a million times.
Somebody was advocating trading Staal? why?
MetsAreBack : 3/3/2015 11:20 am : link

I know we root for the laundry... but there are certain guys on this roster i want to go to war with the next 3-5 years... if we dont win a Cup with them so be it, but these are the guys I want to live and die with and see hoist a Cup on Garden ice:

-Hank
-Stepan
-Staal
-Girardi (I understand the long-term concerns)
-MZA
-D Moore (because he lost his wife)

Obviously i really like our other players too, thats not the point. But i want to see these guys above rewarded for their commitment to this organization that in most cases extends back to the lockout. A championship with these guys would make it all that much more sweeter and Goddamn it, they deserve it. I deserve it too by the way. Get it done.
Gents
JonC : 3/3/2015 11:21 am : link
I get that, but it shouldn't preclude Sather from trying to find a team DG would accept a trade to, he can make it happen. Moving Staal makes less sense, moving Boyle seems certain, just a matter of how/when.
....
BrettNYG10 : 3/3/2015 11:22 am : link
I don't think the team has any interest in moving Girardi anyway. He hasn't noticeably declined from last season when they just gave him a huge deal.
McD too obviously
MetsAreBack : 3/3/2015 11:22 am : link

and fuck that slurping jizz fuck Fish right in her mouth.
Brett
JonC : 3/3/2015 11:23 am : link
Just wait until the cap crunch kicks in ... his contract makes the most sense to move, other than Boyle.
....
BrettNYG10 : 3/3/2015 11:36 am : link
I suspect the team had that in mind when they extended Girardi. Stepan, MSL, and Hags are the only guys up this off-season, and after next year Kreider is up again.

I don't claim intimate knowledge about the cap, but I have to think those scenarios were in their minds when they re-signed him.
Meaning, they likely had a plan for the first three years
BrettNYG10 : 3/3/2015 11:37 am : link
Until they could move him.
.
arcarsenal : 3/3/2015 11:40 am : link
Kreider is the one that worries me the most. I think he could turn into a 30 goal scorer next year and turn into a premier PFD with elite speed. He could turn into a 6 per player and it's going to be hard for us to clear the space.
MAB
Kyle in NY : 3/3/2015 11:48 am : link
I definitely share that affinity for guys like Giardi, Staal, and Hank (obviously) who have been here a long time and helped bridge the gap from those somewhat successful Jagr teams to the excellent group we have now. Same reason it was so tough to see Cally go, despite the financial sense that it made.
....
BrettNYG10 : 3/3/2015 12:00 pm : link
I never liked Cally as much as most - as a superbly talented individual myself, grit and work ethic don't resonate with me as it does for the less fortunate here.

Also he was a fucking whining diver. Brassard's filled in for him in that regard.
I understand Brett
Kyle in NY : 3/3/2015 12:10 pm : link
we can only hope to see things from your gifted perspective haha
Btw
JonC : 3/3/2015 12:54 pm : link
sportrac and nhl numbers are both prorating the cap hits for the new Rangers ... sportrac has them just over the cap, the other site has them about 750k under.
just over for next season?
MetsAreBack : 3/3/2015 12:56 pm : link
or just under?

Either way, should be manageable assuming they can dump Boyle.
This season
JonC : 3/3/2015 1:05 pm : link
.
Next season
JonC : 3/3/2015 1:11 pm : link
we have ~$60M committed and a cap estimated in the $69-72M range.

MSL or Hags (or other) is a goner ... perhaps Boyle too.
.
arcarsenal : 3/3/2015 1:14 pm : link
I'm guessing Stepan gets something in the vicinity of a 5x5

Depends if they feel McDonagh can play on the RS. And as Deej said, I don't think it's tenable to have Yandle on the third pairing and we need to open up cap space.

So methinks either Girardi and Staal will be gone. Did Uncle Larry have a brainfart regarding the Boyle buyout and the 35+ rule? Something like:

McDonagh/Staal-Girardi/McDonagh
Yandle-Klein
Skjei-McIlrath/Boyle
arc
JonC : 3/3/2015 1:15 pm : link
I think he's north of $6M, especially with Krecji at $7.5M (!!)
arc
JonC : 3/3/2015 1:21 pm : link
and I agree with you on Kreider, he's ascending right into that price range.
...
BrettNYG10 : 3/3/2015 1:22 pm : link
Stepan's worth more than Ryan O'Reilly, who everyone blows.

I think he's our most valuable forward. Brassard got 5 and 5, and Stepan's much more valuable.
No Glass tomorrow?!!?

So it looks as if Sheppard will play on the wing in Detroit with Moore and Fast, which means Glass is scratched.

Shep was skating with Moore and Fast. Glass was filling in for Zuccarello.

YES! YES! YES!

arcarsenal : 3/3/2015 1:31 pm : link
North of 6 would be a lot for Step. I think Krejci is a better player. Anything under 6 is fair, IMO.. beyond that it gets dicey.

And I'm someone who loves Step and think he's a lock to stay regardless.
I think Step stays
JonC : 3/3/2015 1:42 pm : link
but he and his agent took a shave on his current deal, given his RFA status.
I'm enjoying this argument between Sean Avery and Dustin Penner

Hey man, I'm a wrestling fan. I can do it. Our brothers on the Island can't because they have no idea where it comes from. #AmericanDragon #BryanDanielson

Granted the chant sucks now. The Islanders ruin everything.

Deej : 3/3/2015 2:43 pm : link
my guess is 6 years, 6.25 to 7 million, which I think would represent a bit of a discount. He's not a top 10 center, but he's got to be top 15.
Let MSL walk
Torrag : 3/3/2015 2:52 pm : link
Jettison Boyle...cap crunch solved. Use savings to work on extending young core. We should be able to hang onto two of the CK/Step/Hags trifecta. Replenish from the farm. Team remains a Cup contender throughout Hanks window.
....
BrettNYG10 : 3/3/2015 2:57 pm : link
MSL seems to want to finish his career here, but is he willing to take $4M-4.5M? Anything more than $4.5M makes me think we should let him go, which I'm fine with. We have some guys who should be ready for that role next year.
I wouldn't even bring
MookGiants : 3/3/2015 2:58 pm : link
MSL back for 4.5 million. Not worth it imo.

JonC : 3/3/2015 3:02 pm : link
I'd rather keep the kids but Zucc was the one I was worried about losing. Hags is probably next kid out if money gets tight, but I'd also pass on MSL if the space is needed.

I would offer MSL 2.5-3 TOPS and just be like.. we want you here for another year and would like you to finish up as a Ranger but that's all we can offer.

He's been around. He understands the business and knows we have young guys we need to retain. I think there's a chance he takes a significant discount like that to stay and hang them up here.

But it also depends what happens this season. If we win the Cup somehow, I could see him calling it a career there and going out on top.
I could see MSL riding off into the sunset with The Cup
Torrag : 3/3/2015 3:07 pm : link
I'll sign for that right now.
Arc nailed it
MetsAreBack : 3/3/2015 3:30 pm : link
There's no way you offer MSL more than $2.5-3mm next year. Just not worth it. If he wants more, you thank him and keep Hagelin.

He wants to stay in the tri-state area, but the Isles will be in Brooklyn next year so there's always that option for him. Which would be fine - let them overpay what will be a 41 year old.

Frankly I'd almost prefer to keep Hagelin no matter what. I like MSL but the only upside to 41 year olds is apparently Florida will give you a 2nd round pick for one at the deadline if your team sucks.
Oh and of course the Isles get Dallas tonight
MetsAreBack : 3/3/2015 3:33 pm : link
without their best, superstar player.

I'm sure they'll face Nashville's backup goalie thursday too. Fuckin' Fishsticks.
I would definitely take care of Hagelin first, obviously.
BrettNYG10 : 3/3/2015 3:44 pm : link
But St. Louis is worth more than $3M.
Mark Recchi's last 3 contracts
Drewcon40 : 3/3/2015 3:48 pm : link
2008-09 $1,250,000
2009-10 $1,000,000
2010-11 $1,000,000

I believe he signed one year deals but I don't remember. I wish capgeek existed. St. Louis would have to make a choice but the Rangers cannot offer a prohibitive contract.

New York Rangers ‏@NYRangers 4h4 hours ago
Mats Zuccarello not practicing..so Tanner Glass skating with Derick Brassard and Rick Nash. #NYR

Zucc gets his money and stops trying.

At least we have Glass to win games for us.
.
arcarsenal : 3/3/2015 3:56 pm : link
In a vacuum, a player of MSL's caliber is definitely worth over 3. But he wanted to come here to be closer to Greenwich/his family, he's on a team with Cup aspirations and he's also at the very end of his career which are unique circumstances that could result in him taking less money to play here another year or so and then retire.

I really don't think the guy is at a point where he's just going to say "I'll play for whoever wants to pay me the most"

hudson FTW.

Poor Glass. Right after he starts filling up the stat sheet last night he gets a seat

Loved me some Cam Talbot last night. We survived some shakiness from him early in this stretch by scoring 6 goals a game, but he was a big part of the W last night
I just dont think next year's MSL is worth more than $3 million
MetsAreBack : 3/3/2015 4:30 pm : link
to this particular team. We have the veteran leadership, we have depth at the W position, we have younger guys ready for top 6 minutes.

Yes, there probably is a team(s) out there where he would have $4-5 million/year worth... maybe even the Brooklyn team... up to MSL if that's the road he wants to take.

But hopefully Sather stays firm with him when it comes to NYR. Hell, if you were doing a zero-cost budgeting exercise - if MSL was on another team, we really wouldn't be considering him this offseason as a free agent pickup.

Why should things be any different just because he's already here?
