Staal is really underrated by BBI, sometimes I wish he had tested the Free Agent market.

I would do the following:

Yandle-McDonagh (McD played RD very well in Sochi)
Staal-Girardi/Klein
Allen/Skjei-Klein/Girardi

Trade Boyle if possible. Let this be a lesson to Sather -- quit giving out NTC/NMCs. It will prevent us from shopping Girardi for two more seasons, and at that point he might just be unmovable.

Seems like a guy that needed a new home. I think he'll rock for the Rangers.

How much of his big (-) rating was a product of the team he played on and how much on him? Is it just a coincidence in his first game he was on the ice for the opposition's only goal or is he really a poor defender?

I believe Girardi has a no trade clause. Second, his contract makes him a lot tougher to move this offseason than just trying to trade Boyle to a team for the one year left on his deal. I know we root for the laundry... but there are certain guys on this roster i want to go to war with the next 3-5 years... if we dont win a Cup with them so be it, but these are the guys I want to live and die with and see hoist a Cup on Garden ice:

-Hank
-Stepan
-Staal
-Girardi (I understand the long-term concerns)
-MZA
-D Moore (because he lost his wife)

Obviously i really like our other players too, thats not the point. But i want to see these guys above rewarded for their commitment to this organization that in most cases extends back to the lockout. A championship with these guys would make it all that much more sweeter and Goddamn it, they deserve it. I deserve it too by the way. Get it done.

I get that, but it shouldn't preclude Sather from trying to find a team DG would accept a trade to, he can make it happen. Moving Staal makes less sense, moving Boyle seems certain, just a matter of how/when.

I don't think the team has any interest in moving Girardi anyway. He hasn't noticeably declined from last season when they just gave him a huge deal.

Just wait until the cap crunch kicks in ... his contract makes the most sense to move, other than Boyle.

I suspect the team had that in mind when they extended Girardi. Stepan, MSL, and Hags are the only guys up this off-season, and after next year Kreider is up again.

I don't claim intimate knowledge about the cap, but I have to think those scenarios were in their minds when they re-signed him.

Kreider is the one that worries me the most. I think he could turn into a 30 goal scorer next year and turn into a premier PFD with elite speed. He could turn into a 6 per player and it's going to be hard for us to clear the space.

I definitely share that affinity for guys like Giardi, Staal, and Hank (obviously) who have been here a long time and helped bridge the gap from those somewhat successful Jagr teams to the excellent group we have now. Same reason it was so tough to see Cally go, despite the financial sense that it made.

I never liked Cally as much as most - as a superbly talented individual myself, grit and work ethic don't resonate with me as it does for the less fortunate here.

Also he was a fucking whining diver. Brassard's filled in for him in that regard.

sportrac and nhl numbers are both prorating the cap hits for the new Rangers ... sportrac has them just over the cap, the other site has them about 750k under.

Either way, should be manageable assuming they can dump Boyle.

Stepan's worth more than Ryan O'Reilly, who everyone blows.

I think he's our most valuable forward. Brassard got 5 and 5, and Stepan's much more valuable.
