Jettison Boyle...cap crunch solved. Use savings to work on extending young core. We should be able to hang onto two of the CK/Step/Hags trifecta. Replenish from the farm. Team remains a Cup contender throughout Hanks window.
MSL seems to want to finish his career here, but is he willing to take $4M-4.5M? Anything more than $4.5M makes me think we should let him go, which I'm fine with. We have some guys who should be ready for that role next year.
I'd rather keep the kids but Zucc was the one I was worried about losing. Hags is probably next kid out if money gets tight, but I'd also pass on MSL if the space is needed.
I would offer MSL 2.5-3 TOPS and just be like.. we want you here for another year and would like you to finish up as a Ranger but that's all we can offer.
He's been around. He understands the business and knows we have young guys we need to retain. I think there's a chance he takes a significant discount like that to stay and hang them up here.
But it also depends what happens this season. If we win the Cup somehow, I could see him calling it a career there and going out on top.
I could see MSL riding off into the sunset with The Cup
There's no way you offer MSL more than $2.5-3mm next year. Just not worth it. If he wants more, you thank him and keep Hagelin.
He wants to stay in the tri-state area, but the Isles will be in Brooklyn next year so there's always that option for him. Which would be fine - let them overpay what will be a 41 year old.
Frankly I'd almost prefer to keep Hagelin no matter what. I like MSL but the only upside to 41 year olds is apparently Florida will give you a 2nd round pick for one at the deadline if your team sucks.
I believe he signed one year deals but I don't remember. I wish capgeek existed. St. Louis would have to make a choice but the Rangers cannot offer a prohibitive contract.
In a vacuum, a player of MSL's caliber is definitely worth over 3. But he wanted to come here to be closer to Greenwich/his family, he's on a team with Cup aspirations and he's also at the very end of his career which are unique circumstances that could result in him taking less money to play here another year or so and then retire.
I really don't think the guy is at a point where he's just going to say "I'll play for whoever wants to pay me the most"
this has been discussed already...like a million times.
So why not go back to your Isles thread, dumbass?
hudson FTW.
Poor Glass. Right after he starts filling up the stat sheet last night he gets a seat
Loved me some Cam Talbot last night. We survived some shakiness from him early in this stretch by scoring 6 goals a game, but he was a big part of the W last night
I just dont think next year's MSL is worth more than $3 million
to this particular team. We have the veteran leadership, we have depth at the W position, we have younger guys ready for top 6 minutes.
Yes, there probably is a team(s) out there where he would have $4-5 million/year worth... maybe even the Brooklyn team... up to MSL if that's the road he wants to take.
But hopefully Sather stays firm with him when it comes to NYR. Hell, if you were doing a zero-cost budgeting exercise - if MSL was on another team, we really wouldn't be considering him this offseason as a free agent pickup.
Why should things be any different just because he's already here?
Go kiss some more islander fans asses you cum dumpster

I'm sure they'll face Nashville's backup goalie thursday too. Fuckin' Fishsticks.
2009-10 $1,000,000
2010-11 $1,000,000

Mats Zuccarello not practicing..so Tanner Glass skating with Derick Brassard and Rick Nash. #NYR
Zucc gets his money and stops trying.
At least we have Glass to win games for us.
