Une question, seafood plate.....

Doomster : 3/1/2015 4:45 pm
If we non exclusive franchise tag JPP, and someone makes an offer we won't match, we get two #1's from them....does this #1 come from this year and next year? How long does the tag last? I mean, can he refuse to sign the tag, until after the draft, and then a team makes an offer, so effectively, that team gets him AND their #1 this year, and we get nothing this year?

Also, doesn't this make him attractive to a playoff team? Two high #1's are like two low #2's.....the strong getting stronger....

Sounds fishy to me.
in the event your questions were serious

the tag would be a first rounder in this draft (2015) and next draft (2016).

NFL teams have a limited signing period to sign other teams franchise players and this period ends before the draft so your scenario where a team waits until after the draft to sign a franchised player can't happen.

in theory a really good team that is picking between 25-32 might be more inclined to sign a franchised player, especially if they think they might be picking in that range again next year.

Are you sure? I think it's still possible for another team to sign a franchise tagged player after the draft. They would lose their 2016 and 2017 first round picks to the original team.
p.s.-- I realize that the signing period for restricted free agents closes five days prior to the draft, but I don't believe the same is true for franchise tagged players.
