Stephone Anthony MLB Clemson

Big Rick in FL : 3/1/2015 7:54 pm
Dolphins beat writer Omar Kelly brought him up on Twitter so I started watching him. Watched every single video I could find on the Internet. This guy is an absolute animal. It seems he can do it all. Sideline to sideline guy, blitz, drop into coverage when needed. One of the best college LBs I've seen at shedding blocks. He was Clemson's captain on defense & he's a very vocal leader putting all the guys in the right spot.

My question is how is he not considered a 1st rounder? The only LB I might put ahead of him in this draft is Kendricks. Anthony has way better size though. His production dipped last year, but it was absurd in 2013.

At the combine he performed very well yet we didn't hear a peep about him. He was almost 6'3 243 pounds with 32 1/2 inch arms and 10 3/8 inch hands (That's huge) He ran a 4.57 with a 1.57 10 yard split (Odell had a 1.56) he also had a 37 inch vertical, 10'3 broad jump & 23 bench reps. 7.07 short shuttle & 4.03 three cone. He was top 3 in every single category. Basically the only players ahead of him were LBs that weighed in around 230 pounds.

What are everybody's thoughts on him? Sy? Sj? I know we don't draft LBs high, but if there was ever a draft to do it then it would be this year. In the 2nd round we have Stephone Anthony, Eric Kendricks, Benardrick McKinney, Paul Dawson, Denzel Perryman, Shaq Thompson. I'm really hoping we finally select one.
Here's

an article that says he's getting a lot of love from NFL teams after the combine, and could be a surprise first round pick.

Stephone Anthony
Yup, a stud. I'vr thought of him as an option at 40.

Oddly, CBS
mrvax : 3/1/2015 8:34 pm : link
has him as a 4th rounder and the 5th ILB.
I've seen him projected 3rd..
LakeGeorgeGiant : 3/1/2015 8:43 pm : link
But if we dont take him at 40 we won't get another chance IMO . I want an LB in this draft and Anthony is one of my faves.
Don't get your hopes up.

As I wrote a while back, unless JR has some kind of linebacker epiphany I don't see him drafting one until Day 3.

Now, he does seem to have changed his tune in recent drafts with regard to drafting O-Linemen with premium picks, so he could very well surprise us this year by tapping an LB relatively early, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Think Anthony is a stud and real thumper...but I want the top defensive player in he draft Clemson's Vic Beasley...my absolutely favorite favorite player in the draft and the player I want to see picked @9...wouldn't mind Anthony @40...but just like Beasley he absolutely killed the combine and will probably sneak into the late 1st round

Yes he normally doesn't, but this year is different then most. Jacquian, Paysinger & Herzlich are free agents. Beason can't stay healthy. Kennard couldn't seem to stay healthy last year either. So that leaves us with 1 LB under contract that is currently healthy. Even he is 1 hit away from retirement. He had a spinal cord injury in Baltimore.

Normally we don't take LBs high, because the value isn't there. This year it is there. The Giants will have one of those guys rated fairly high. They are all very good football players.
I don't think we can look
Big Rick in FL : 3/1/2015 9:06 pm : link
At past years to say we aren't drafting a certain position. People said we weren't taking an Olineman at 19. We took Pugh. That was with a stud CB, WR, TE & DT on the board.

I just met Beasley before the Clemson bowl game. Awesome guy. Was extremely nice. Normally when a player is nice to me I want him on the Giants. I'm back & forth with Beasley though. He was super skinny when I met him. I was shocked he weighed so much at the combine. Him being able to sustain that weight scares me. He couldn't have been more then 225 when I met him. Yes I know he was great at the combine even with the extra weight, but can he keep it on when going through training camp and a 16 game season? He's also not. He's also not very good against the run.
I really like

This guy... Would love to see him in blue
Besley is a pure 3-4 IMO
chris r : 3/1/2015 9:21 pm : link
He can't play DE and would be wasted at LB in 4-3.
I honestly
TommyWiseau : 3/1/2015 9:30 pm : link
Think our Scouts just suck at evaluating certain positions, LB being one.
Anthony's an excellent blitzer. Spags will like that.
Ira : 3/1/2015 9:45 pm : link
He's pretty good in coverage, but does seem to miss some open field tackles.
He looks like he can do it all
Rjanyg : 3/1/2015 9:53 pm : link
Will he last to pick 40 and if so will Jerry pick him?

As I said, I'll believe it when I see it.

Is one of my top ILB's I hoped we could get in the 4th but his combine has put him not later than mid third. He could go late 2nd but I can't see him in the first that would be a big jump from the 4th round projection prior to the combine. This darft is looking much better than advertised and you just need to stay with your board the talent is out there just find it.
UKGiantsFan loves him

Thinks he will go before our 40th pick, maybe even first round.
My post above is a out

Stephane Anthony
I don't think he gets past
JFIB : 3/2/2015 8:58 am : link
The Pats at 32.
MIKE linebacker
area junc : 3/2/2015 9:32 am : link
i am optimistic we will at least take the MIKE position seriously with Spags scheme. he had AP here, then Laurainaitis w/the Rams. he puts a lot on the MIKE's plate and needs a 3-down player there who commands respect

will b interesting to c if we give beason another chance, obviously we want to or he'd b gone already
Talk about efficiency....

You saved 4 e's. Congrats.
Big Rick, make no mistake
area junc : 3/2/2015 10:50 am : link
you take beasley, u r rolling the dice on a potential hall-of-fame speed rusher. A God-given talent. Osi-like speed and explosion off the edge

if he's as advertised hes worth the #9 even if a part time player. and u never know if u switch to a 34 down the road.

i believe he'll b long gone (i think he goes #3 to the Jags) but he'd still have to get thru the Jets, Bears and Falcons who all need 34 edge rushers
also beasley
area junc : 3/2/2015 10:52 am : link
is a like a pitbull tracking mobile QBs.

he's new breed + can be part of the solution stopping these modern offenses
Step one Anthony
SomeFan : 3/2/2015 11:56 am : link
would not be at 9 but in a trade down.
