have given the whole "I can't believe he would do something like this" when they indulged little Johnny his fascination with Islam and later radicalism and he runs off to join the Taliban or ISIS or Al Qaeda, I thought it made fun of that pretty nicely. And frankly, those fucktards really don't deserve a ton of sympathy, so have at it.
Everyone thinks it was funny when they were a particular age and hasn't been funny since. For me it was the span from Mike Myers and Dana Carvey until Norm MacDonald was fired from Weekend Update (though the first bit of that was more in syndication than live).
Seriously? Not exactly Sinead O'Connor tearing the Pope in half.
Frankly, I'm disappointed to see so many get roped into caring passionately about the enemy Du jour. I had hoped that after Iraq, it would be MUCH harder to fool the American people.

People being set on fire on camera will do that to you.
People being set on fire on camera will do that to you.
Only when the media tells you to. People in 3rd world countries suffer this sort of violence CONSTANTLY. It's only EVIL and MUST BE ELIMINATED when the US Representatives and our Mainstream Media tells you it is.
All this support for military action against ISIS - strangely, I don't see or hear much against Boko Haram, who have been doing much greater damage.
"the media tells you to" as though luminaries such as yourself don't take your cues from others. It's a silly conceit to suppose that you are uniquely able to slice through the bullshit and get to what is really important. It would be nice to destroy Boko Haram too, but short of our projecting power somewhere novel, with little or no allied support, that's not likely to be achieved. ISIS is accessible to us and our allies and is positioned within a region that is economically and strategically important.
the only time I ever hear any buzz about the show is when they do something controversial. I suppose they've long-ago jumped the shark to become the petulant child that can only be heard by being outrageous.
Mocking a young person being patriotic, in light of the slaughter, generally targeted, that ISIS thrives on, especially given the mantra of the President and those of the same passive, non-plused belief about ISIS, neutralizes the effect of what ISIS is doing.
ISIS apparently serves Mom the captive son she came to see...
Current cast is very talented - really, since the mid-80's, the show has always been good, which is why it stays on the air while so many competitors have come and gone.
Keenan Thompson, Bobby Moynihan, Jay Pharoh, Aidy Bryant, Leslie Jones - all great talents and there are a couple like Kate McKinnon and Taran Killan who will go down as all-time greats.
I suspect that most who believe that SNL has "jumped the shark" have been saying the same thing for decades, and are the same crew who say "there is no good music anymore". We get it. Change is bad.
RE: ISIS apparently serves Mom the captive son she came to see...
as old cast members have moved on and new ones have either been disappointments or have struggled to find good characters. Chris Rock is certainly one of the funniest of the SNL alums and from what I gather he gets credit as a fine writer on the show but he wasn't in front of the camera as much as he should have been. Adam Sandler's participation early on was rather limited. They have had lean years, but generally speaking they rebound and find a newer, younger audience in short order.

Probably false. (Yaay. BBI made me defend ISIS)

Could it be fake? Sure. But to dismiss the idea that Arabs would expect hospitality from even rather hostile hosts, or that a guest would not deign to eat it, displays an ignorance of that part of the world.
And frankly, when you behead, crucify and immolate people on camera your audience tends not to extend you the benefit of the doubt.
To the extent that war tends to be fought over resources (ideaology often neatly covers that war is almost exclusively an economic exercise), is there resource that is more important to the U.S and global economy than oil?
Bill2 has offered some fine thoughts on the impact of bad actors, oil volatility and the global economy.

Have to agree with this.
Maybe I'm just old, but I'd rather not help us (meaning my family and children- I couldn't really give two fucks about the rest of you heathens and miscreants) reach third world status any quicker than we already are with our own self inflicted wounds.
Oil=Food nowadays. Yup, it kinda sucks but that's the way it is until the next resource comes along. Then we'll hopefully stake a claim to that and defend it so that we don't starve.
It'd be great if as a world we could share all of this stuff. But...although we're a lot better than we were in the past, we're still a long ways off. And really, once we get there we'll still have to worry about the Morlocks. Fuck the Morlocks.
we do occasionally intervene for humanitarian reasons if the cost is low enough, but generally speaking we act where our interests are at stake, both physical security and economic security. Do we get it wrong? Absolutely. Both in our decisions to go to war and in our conduct of it. This is a mix of both those humanitarian imperatives and the preservation of our interests, namely the suppression of chaos that threatens our allies and our economic interests. And as Cam says, "no war for oil" is all well and good until you acknowledge that chaos in price and particularly supply could really undermine our economy, with tangible consequences for us all, and would certainly foment conflict and severe economic contraction in countries where those concepts are lethal.
All conflicts are resource conflicts as Rob points out.
Oil, frankly, is one of the most sensible things to go to war over given its a) importance to basically all human activity and b) unfortunate tendency to be concentrated in places with lots of troublemakers.

Yup, the current cast is pretty good but it's not fashionable to like the show these days. I watch every week and I am rarely disappointed.
...again and again, the HORROR of seeing great cast members leave - the last big exodus with Fred Armisted and Bill Hader leaving was very concerning, but they picked up the slack in spades. Great show. Still relevant, hence the 40th anniversary ratings.
I liked this reply better 15-20 years ago.
...ISIS or the cast of SNL
: )
I'll show myself out, but anyone offended by that sketch is really trying.
And didn't realize that she was Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith's daughter.

No anybody can be offended going out and killing someone because they offended you is an ISIS thing
WTF is wrong with some of these hollywood people and their destructive plastic surgery habits?

NO WAR FOR OIL.
NO WAR FOR OIL.
And Nigeria lacks oil?
We disagree on everything.
I actually thought it was clever.
And during the buildup to the Iraq War, the only discussions about Oil were coming from the critics. It was all WMD and 9/11 all the time.
Conservatives lack a funny bone. Hence, the lack of a Conservative "Daily Show" or "Colbert Report".

You say that as if it's on the audience (BBI, in this case) as opposed to snl.
