IMO the NYG would be improving the team the most by selecting Waynes at #9 and whoever is there at #40 between Preston Smith or Odi. Both picks are realistic if not likely to be available and you significantly improve a below average defense with the clear cut #1 CB and a high-level upside
Edge rusher to give Spags another weapon.
Fill the one OL you need in free agency and go DEFENSE early in draft to improve team speed and playmakers on that side of the ball.
It seems like a defensive draft is in the minority of BBI wishes but does anyone think that specifically these two picks wouldn't be an awesome start to the '15 draft class?
Prince is entering the last year of his deal. And coming off of IR.
You need 3 good corners minimum and NYG doesn't have that right now.
Amari Cooper is going to have a big impact this year. Whether it is with us or somebody else.
Then again, if he was that exceptional out of college as Revis was, he'd likely be picked earlier than 9.
I am all for the BPA approach and I know the Giants say that that is their governing philosophy in the draft. But corner is one area where that position might be the exception. With DRC, Prince, McBride and resigning Thurmond III, we can look to a more urgent need.
- He'll be 30 in September.
- He has dressed for a total of 37 games the past six years.
- Of those six years, he spent three on IR and one on his couch.
Yes, McBride was a pleasant surprise in 2013. Healthy, he's a nice player to have around. His influence on whether the Giants spend a premium draft pick on a cornerback is zero.
Coming back to the topic of the thread, I don't recall many CBs who elevated their teams right away. For every Kyle Fuller, aren't there several Darqueze Dennards and Dre Kirkpatricks - not to mention longer-term flops like Mo Claiborne and Dee Milliner? And how big was Fuller's impact, really? Chicago's pass defense dropped from average in 2013 to abysmal in 2014.
The edge rusher (DE/OLB) positions are tricky. You're unlikely to add a plug-and-play rookie starter there. The big potential immediate impact is probably from a situational player like Aldon Smith. Again, not exactly easy to find.
I said I didn't expect Waynes to be in the Giants top ten but I'm no expert. I'm sure he will be in somebody's top ten. I wouldn't be upset with picking Waynes, I would be upset with Landon Collins.
#2 WR who can start over Randle next year. Many are available
#3 RB with some burst, catching ability and special teams
#4 S there isn't much value but maybe we get lucky
#5 OG one that can actually play
#6 DE a special teamer with upside as Kiwi is gone
#7 DT a body, maybe someone who got hurt and fell.
That is what I'd like.
