Pro Day Thread

Dunedin81 : 3/2/2015 10:06 am
The pro day schedule begins today. Minnesota, Wake Forest and UVA are holding theirs, with a couple smaller schools with noteworthy prospects (UT-Chattanooga in particular) also holding showcases.
Eli Harold did 24 reps...

he did not bench at the Combine.
Max Valles reportedly ran high-4.6's to low-4.7's...

My scout at Virginia's pro day said Eli Harold looked good in pass-rush drills w/ hand on ground, likley upgraded position in draft.

Here's hoping Anthony Harris drops because he couldn't work out.
Big Blue Blogger : 3/2/2015 4:41 pm : link
The Giants have always scouted UVA throughly, so they should have a pretty firm grade on Harris, even without a three-cone time. Maybe they can work him out separately.

At Minnesota, did David Cobb improve on his awful 40 at the Combine?

I'm curious how Derrick Lott of UT-Chattanooga did today. He'd be a Markus Kuhn-type pick late on Day 3 (including his age). And Tennessee is in the Jerry Reese/Jeremiah Davis corridor.

Never mind about Cobb.

Cobb, who suffered a quad injury at the combine chose to sit out.
He'll work out separately for scouts before the draft.

Even discounting for Pro Day stat inflation, Thompson was impressive.

With running back David Cobb sidelined and tight end Maxx Williams deciding to rest on his NFL combine numbers, safety Cedric Thompson was the hot name during Minnesota's on-campus workouts Monday.

Thompson, who didn't receive an invitation to the NFL combine, ran his 40-yard dash in the 4.38-4.44 range and recorded impressive results in the vertical (40.5-inches), broad jump (10-feet-2) and bench reps (21), according to a scout in attendance. The Gophers safety, who is currently projected as an undrafted free agent, finished his senior season second on the team in tackles (83) with four passes defended and two interceptions.

DT Derrick Lott was a no-show for Tenn-Chatt's pro day. Wasn't feeling well. Too bad. Good player, now will travel a lot for workouts.

Meanwhile, a familiar name steals the show at Wake Forest's pro day.

Trade Nassib. I want this kid. Rifle arm... Small southern school... and that name...

I was put off by his history at Alabama and UVA, but that's because he was listed as "Philip". Now that I know he goes by "Phil"...
All he needs is another 'm' in his last name. - ( New Window )

No wonder he changed his name. He sucked.
Dunedin81: Thanks for the update on Lott.
Big Blue Blogger : 3/2/2015 5:05 pm : link
On paper, he's what the Giants look for at three-technique.

And yes, I was kidding about Philip Sims. Though the press would have a field day if the Giants picked him up as a camp arm.

I was going for an Office Space reference.
'Why should I change?'

"He's the one who sucks."
- Phil Simms, on QB prospect Phil Sims.
BTW I believe Kevin Parks put up 25 reps...
Dunedin81 : 3/2/2015 10:16 pm : link
he's a late-round RB candidate, solid pass-catcher, powerful, explosive but probably won't measure fast. 39" vert.
Apparently Darius Jennings ran a 4.4...
Dunedin81 : 3/3/2015 9:17 am : link
sure as fuck didn't look that fast on film, but maybe it had something to do with the awful QBs that have thrown him the ball. He averaged 19.3 yards per this year. Probably about 180 now, 5'11", may end up a late rounder or a priority UDFA.

I'm a little disappointed that Maxx Williams...

...chose to stand on his combine numbers.
At Miss.St., Bernardrick McKinney also stood on his Combine numbers.
Big Blue Blogger : 3/4/2015 5:07 pm : link
So did prototype 4-3 DE Preston Smith.

Matthew Wells ran the 40 in the 4.4s - pretty fast for a kid who's nominally a linebacker. He's undersized, though.
Mississippi State Pro Day - ( New Window )
At Pitt yesterday, T.J. Clemmings stood on his Combine too.
Big Blue Blogger : 3/4/2015 5:10 pm : link
Safety Ray Vinopal apparently grabbed some attention.

Couple of good performances at Northwestern:
Big Blue Blogger : 3/4/2015 5:20 pm : link
Mid-round prospect SS Ibraheim Campbell wasn't healthy enough to run, but LB Jimmy Hall and tall WR Cameron Merdeith raised their stock.

Tomorrow's main events: Clemson, Mississippi and Nebraska.

A small-school guy...
Dunedin81 : 3/5/2015 7:43 am : link
at JMU, WR Daniel Brown measured 6'4.5" and 227, running somewhere between 4.52 and 4.58 with a 6.88 3-cone (per Walter Football). 42/606 with 7 TDs last year, 42/665 in 2013. Probably a late rounder/UDFA.

Sage Harold is also a Duke, 6'4" and 245 (similar in size to his cousin Eli), ran a sub-4.7. A projection from DE to LB. 12 career sacks.
Today's Pro Days...

Clemson, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Mexico, Utah State

Presumably Vic Beasley stands on his combine numbers, as does Randy Gregory. Cody Prewitt and a few other guys could still be on the radar in the first few rounds though.
