People who still think the Giants have cap issues don't understand the cap . . . still.
Please explain how we will be able to take on a $15m (guess) cap number for Suh? We had roughly $25m in cap space before tagging JPP, figure $5 to $6m for draft. Unless we offer an extreme backloaded contract with a ton of guaranteed money, I don't see how it will work. There are many teams in a better cap situation than us who can offer a more intriguing offer.
am I missing something here? I know we can restructure guys (Eli, Prince, etc...), cut guys (Walton, Schwartz, etc...), but I am just not seeing how we could afford Suh.
Extend Eli, resign JPP with larger signing bonus over 6 years. Realize were 90 mil under the 2016 cap with NO Eli signed in 2016 and expected cap of 150 mil. Its not that difficult to sign him if you want him.
If its only about the money then Oakland, Jags and others are going to be throwing money around and contracts are going to escalate. I think getting Eli and JPP done this week is important for the future of the franchise.
Dline would be fixed! We get Linebackers through draft and free agency. We drafted Kennard. We signed ROBERT AYERS FOR VET MIN! Really come on guys Ayers had the most sacks and was on the bench. NOTICE how I say "would" Obviously now that we signed JPP it took a lot of our cap away. Signing Suh is a very low possibility.
Who wants to trade up yet the 3rd pick and draft Williams.
And he also wants to bring back Cofield and Canty.
Lol wtf are you talking about? Cofield and canty come for low price. Trading up won't happen now. Besides I'd be happy with Cooper at 9 depending if all pans out.
RE: Its actually quite easy to sign Suh for 15 mill a year

I read somewhere that Beason is willing to restructure his contract to
Since we haven't had a great LB corps in -- since the 1990's
and our Safety corps gets broked almost every year
somebody wanna talk to the Giants about how easy it is???
Lol we don't need a great Linebacking corps to win the Super Bowl. If you look back at 07 and 2011 we just need them to be good. Add a couple guys, have no injures and it's fixed.
I'm assuming we resign role.
Cooper Taylor was looking good....
I'm confident the Giants will make the right moves.
InvisibleBlack: The Giants did not sign Ayers for the veteran minimum.
His first-year salary was vet min, but that was in addition to a $1MM signing bonus. He will make another $2MM this year, with a cap hit near $2.5MM. Or the Giants can release him in the next week to avoid paying his roster bonus, and take a $500K dead money hit.
Giants2012: It's not a question of understanding the cap.
The problem for the Giants is that cap space is relative, not absolute. They have to bid for UFA talent against teams that have absurd amounts of cap space. While the Giants have no immediate cap issues, they are still at a disadvantage relative to the Raiders, Jags, Browns, Jets, Titans, etc.

It's easy. You just spread the bonus out and reallocate dollars toward other years. It's not the voodoo back loaded contract. The Giants have approx. $80+ million of space in 2016 just as they had a ton of space in 2015 when they signed a lot of players last offseason. Every single team does it. The Giants cap situation has NEVER been healthier.

Well, kinda. I'd say the Raiders are in the best shape. The Giants actually have more cap space than the Jets for 2016.
If a team really wants to go for broke and break the bank, yeah, somebody always wins but this delusion that the Giants have cap issues is crazy. They don't $25 million in cap space. They have $25 million in cap dollars this year. It's a budget and too many fans don't appear to understand it.
you're probably right. With teams having to spend at least 89% of the cap dollars I think the offering for free agents is going to be crazy. Even for some mediocre players the cost might be high.
Just thinking, with the cap still going up and this 89% rule in place, will an astronomical dollar amount for Suh look like a bargain in a year or two. I think the days of a $20 million dollar a year QB might get eclipsed by $30 million soon.
Giants2012: Good point about the need to take a multi-year view.
If a team has several big contracts that balloon simultaneously, cap heaven can become cap hell pretty quickly. On the other hand, one shouldn't exaggerate the flexibility the Giants have with Eli Manning. He's expensive, and will always be expensive. You can make him cap-efficient for a year, but that's about it.
FWIW, I think the Jets are fine cap-wise, because they can cut Percy Harvin any time they need space. Their problem (unlike the Giants') is that they WISH they had a QB to overpay.

You are probably right and teams may overspend on a guy like Suh (especially those who need to spend a significant amount to reach that 89% threshold).

1. There is a quick fix. If you have three players who balloon all at once, you cut one (take the hit) and refinance the others. Granted, those dollars become guaranteed but there is a way. Having a Super Bowl roster makes it a bit tough while the Saints, what they've done, is quite amazing and literally cap stupidity.
2. But Eli's number has already been close to $20 million anyway.
Only a few players from the Super Bowl team remain. Nobody is really commanding too much, the cap has risen, the CBA calls for limited dollars allocated towards rookies for a prolonged period of time and veteran FA market always has inexpensive players (Jenkins, Patterson, etc).
It's almost tough to spend 89% of your cap. You almost have to allocate large sums of dollars for a player for a year to use up 89%.
3. The Jets need help in more ways than we can come up with :)
Having Suh (with Hankins and JPP) would give us a top notch DL. They would control the OL, freeing up the LB's to be free to stop the run. Also they would be tieing up all the OL on passing plays, which would make our blitzes much more successful (if the DL doesn't get there on their own). This would also help out the DB's.
Ok cool!
What? Did you stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night?
and our Safety corps gets broked almost every year
somebody wanna talk to the Giants about how easy it is???
right you are then
