Odell Beckham or 1st + 2nd overall picks in this draft

Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 3/2/2015 4:01 pm
Stupid question I know, just trying to gauge what kind of preposterous trade value he has (not saying he doesn't deserve it).

Would you rather have Beckham or the 1st + 2nd overall picks in this draft?
Would you rather have Beckham or the 1st + 2nd + 3rd overall picks in this draft?
Would you rather have Beckham or the 1st + 2nd + 3rd + 4th overall picks in this draft?
Would you rather have Beckham or every Top 10 pick in the draft this year?

At what point would you as a Giants fan rather have the first "x" amount of picks in this draft over Beckham?

I might go with 4 or 5. Leonard Williams, Amari Cooper, Brandon Scherff, Kevin White, Vic Beasley... or you could trade down and acquire a couple more mid/late 1sts and just load up on young talent

At what number of picks do you say "I love you, but goodbye" to Beckham?
Would have to be 1-4

for me to part ways. He is a pro bowl WR, and if he keeps it up through his career he's a hall of famer.

I know you called them stupid questions

And I also know you to be an intelligent, insightful poster, but I don't get the point of these questions lol (whether it's you or anyone else doing it).
just something else

Gmen108021 : 3/2/2015 4:08 pm : link
look we drafted him at 12...and imo he is clearly the best wr in the class. the draft is a crap shoot.
1-4 seems nice but its a huge gamble...
what if 2 of em work out? will they still be HoF caliber? i think beckham is. sooo why take a gamble it sounds crazy but i would need 1-10 lmfao
maybe its part bias yes however i know what we have in beckham. those other top 5 guys...all could bust! its alot more likely then 1 of em being HoF talent imo
I would

Personally need a couple million dollars to deal with the pain of seeing what we gave away for a few mediocre players, possibly busts,or injured players, or players that don't impact the game like OBJr does.we would have given a dynamic generational type player or never seen befor type player that the world currently is in love with.to me that = priceless. We have draft picks but we're the only team and fan base that has OBJr!
Keep him

not only do you get the first 4 or 5 picks in the draft, but you also get to trade down to amass more picks. Its like wishing for more wishes.

Awesome

Or

ODB

?
I think

I would take the first 2 picks of this draft, I have to admit. If I did that I could trade the first pick, which would be the QB, then turn that into a boatload of picks, so this would actually be a no brainer, sorry all you biased Giant fans, you are nuts not to take the first 2picks, let alone the first 4 picks, ha ha ha ha ha! You could them into a fucking team, LOL. Its funny to listen to BBI at times.
fuck no
djm : 3/2/2015 5:15 pm : link
why would I trade away the best looking rookie to come along in decades for the unknown?

If Beckham was due for a contract raise RIGHT NOW? Maybe I'd think about it. But he's cheap and ridiculously productive. Anyone saying isn't thinking. I wouldn't trade Beckham for an entire draft. In the salary cap dynamic leaving QBs out of it, Beckham is an mvp caliber player. He's that good and he's making pennies. His value cannot be overstated.
PaulN - and if you could trade LawrencebTaylor after his rookie season
BlueLou : 3/2/2015 5:16 pm : link
How many of the top picks would yo take for him? Knowing of course, what his full career would become?
why are we thinking of subtracting ODB / OBJ?
mattlawson : 3/2/2015 5:17 pm : link
let's add.
just read the whole post
djm : 3/2/2015 5:17 pm : link
lol...

I may take option 4 I guess lol...

Funny thing is, you still may not get equal value back if you traded Beckham for the top ten of this draft. Maybe last year's top ten...sure!
What is it you seek to find
Giantology : 3/2/2015 5:45 pm : link
by making a post like this? What you think people gauge as OBJ's value?
You have to take the top 4 easy...
Amtoft : 3/2/2015 5:47 pm : link
Leonard Williams, Dante Fowler, Amari Cooper and Kevin White... Then La'el Collins at 9... that is a no brainer since you will have cost control of all 5 of them for at least 5 years.
Beckham or a Hurricane named Beckham?

It's an outside the box thought excercise. I want to see the logic people use to come up with their answer. And yes I want to see how much draft pick value a proven young cheap special commodity like Odell would have on BBI.

not my fault some of you lack creativity
Imo it depends, on why you watch sports or why you are a fan.
Watson : 3/2/2015 6:37 pm : link
If it's basically about wins and losses you take the top 4 picks. If it's because you enjoy watching incredible athletic performances you stick with OBJ.

I think it's a fun idea for a thread. Not every thread has to be about something that could actually happen.

Obviously you don't do it for the #1 pick by itself. I don't think I'd do it for the top 2 picks either - if those picks got you a Pro Bowl-caliber player and another cost-controlled starter it would probably be equal to the value of ODB, and that would be an above-average return for two picks. Top 3 picks is a better argument - I haven't run the numbers, but I'd imagine you probably get one Pro Bowl player in the top three picks on average, and the chance to get more than one, or to get multiple borderline Pro Bowl players, helps to balance the risk - but even then I'd probably keep ODB because he's the most fun player to watch on a game-to-game basis in the entire league. So I'll say the top 4 picks is what it would take for me.
I'll Play

I want more than the 1st and 2nd overall.

1st (Williams), 2nd (trade for someone desperate for a QB for a 1st, 2nd and maybe a 3rd), 3rd (trade for someone else desperate for a QB or draft WR White).

You can get a DT, "replacement" (not really) at WR, get multiple OL picks at more appropriate value, LBs etc.

I'd go for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd only if I had a trading partner lined up to get me multiple picks for the 2nd and 3rd overall picks. I'm only interested in drafting Williams with the 1st overall.

What would you take for a young LT is a good answer.
wgenesis123 : 3/2/2015 7:11 pm : link
Sometimes a GM has a player that he doesn't want to hear any offers for. The offers might make sense but trading the player does not. This is the value I would put on OBJ.
At this point
NYG07 : 3/2/2015 7:56 pm : link
I wouldn't trade him for anything. He is a once in a generation type talent. Lets just enjoy the ride
trading away a known commodity..
blueblood : 3/2/2015 8:02 pm : link
that is young.. and hasnt even reached his peak yet.. for some picks.. would be incredibly stupid..
how dare you Osi

Yeah that Hershel Walker trade sure killed Dallas.
Wouldn't trade him for draft picks. Too iffy.
Blackbeard : 3/3/2015 3:59 pm : link
Might consider trading for two or more established players, not necessarily Hall of Famers, but good enough to fill some points of need.
The biggest reason you do it, IF you do it...
Big Blue Blogger : 3/3/2015 4:30 pm : link
...is to spread your injury risk. Think about the Giants' 20-year history with excellent young receivers before Beckham, in reverse order:
2010 Victor Cruz - Debilitating injury, 2014
2009 Hakeem Nicks - Career-altering injury, 2012
2008 Mario Manningham - Debilitating injuries, 2011-13
2007 Steve Smith - Debilitating injury, 2010
1997 Ike Hilliard - Debilitating injury, 1997/2002
1996 Amani Toomer - Debilitating injury, 1996

That's not even mentioning lesser talents (from the intervening Accorsi years) whose careers were altered by injuries before they even got started, like Ron Dixon, Tim Carter, Sinorice Moss and Jamaar Taylor. For all the crap Rueben Randle gets around here, much of it deserved, at least he has escaped the curse - so far.

Look at it this way: In March 2003, what was your price for Jeremy Shockey?
not even the top10 picks
mookskingdom20 : 3/3/2015 4:33 pm : link
Especially not in this draft, OBJesus has goat potential, you don't trade that for the world
We have a superstar at a key position in today's NFL
SomeFan : 3/3/2015 4:37 pm : link
In general, no realistic trade for draft picks would suffice except for fictional baloney like all of the draft picks of the worst NFL team each year for the next 5 years.

I view that fiction above like the argument about who would in a battle 35 dwarfs with baseball bats or 5 hungry lions.
