this is not surprising. Opens up a hole at Center and entrenches Richburg as the starter. He wasn't very good so we can find someone at least as bad as him for cheaper as the backup.

I feel bad for him personally, as he seemed like a good guy and gave it his all but he was one of the worst regular starters the Giants have had on the offensive line in quite some time.
I mean there were plays he would get thrown around like a rag doll! What a woeful center!
has some physical limitations but can start in this league.
The other guys that the Giants cut either have injury concerns (Hillis/Kiwi) and/or just are not very good NFL players at this point (Hillis/Kiwi/Walton).
The question was whether he would give enough ground to hang around and compete for a roster spot. Now we know the answer.
I suppose Ayers and McClain will get their money next week, though neither is a sure thing. IIRC, the payout schedule for Beason's roster cash is irregular. If he's due a big lump sum next week, his agent (Jon Beason) will be busy the next few days.
should have ~$12.7M in space after this and JPP tag
just go to overthecap's calculator and "cut" Walton to see the impact (JPP already looks tagged)
A Beason cut would only save $2.8M. They could probably save close to that or more (for 2015) by restructuring Beason. Though obviously there's risk there... OTC Calculator - ( New Window )
Beason broke his mouth saying that he will take a pay cut
I guess there is a cap savings, which I wasn't expecting. The good news is now there is no doubt Richburg is the starting OC. The bad news is there is no backup.
You mean one of the highest rated centers in last year draft may...

I wouldn't ink Weston Richburg into the starting center spot yet, but you can push really hard on the pencil if you'd like.

@TomRock_Newsday Right cuz they got that Canadian dude. Remember the day they signed that Canadian dude? Good times.

@DanGrazianoESPN And re-signed Dallas Reynolds.
What does it tell you a 16 games healthy starter gets cut for less
I'm sure the Giants hoped he'd be better but they didn't want to run with a rookie center with the shit Oline. I can't blame them.
I wonder if the Giants made him a vet minimum offer and he said, "no"? He'd be good to have on the bench in an emergency. I think the only 2 centers we have right now are Richburg and the CFL guy, neither of whom have taken an NFL snap at center.
maybe the Giants felt, or hoped that Walton was going to improve as the season progressed. Some guys do take time to adjust and Walton was not only playing for a new team he was coming off injury. Some guys look like dog shit and then turn the corner. And the Giants obviously felt that Walton at center and Richburg at guard was the best OL they could field.
pay money to a guy that weakened the line, put your rookie C out of position and don't give him a year of learning the NFL as this natural position, great work.
than 3 million cap numbers...huge disconnect between FO and Coaching staff in terms of players and playing time/starters....
Not really. Even if they benched Walton and moved Richburg (who struggled at times) to center, who the hell was playing LG? Richburg didn't play LG because he was a rookie and the coaching staff stubbornly stuck with the vet OC. He played LG because the LG backup was worse (at least in the coaching staff's estimation) than Walton.
Ok, so now we're at about 11 re JPP, with Jones as reserve C
May already be on the roster ...Brett Jones

True Dave. Better to laugh than cry..........
Dallas Reynolds is signed, so those two will compete. It's for a backup spot, but competition is good.

Makes sense, can't give that much money to a guy you can't trust to stay healthy. That money is flushed down the drain if he gets injured.
Caught a blurb about Beason saying he'd be willing to take a pay cut..How much, was not clear

CFL all-pro Jones and Dallas Reynolds..For now
Unless Beason agrees to a dramatic pay cut he's history. He just might agree though because who else is going to pay him...

Yikes.
Bad signing. Move on.

Hold on, sir. We might need a few more weeks to properly analyze this. Thank you for your patience. -Certain folks
