Texans to Trade or Cut Andre Johnson

he Houston Chronicle's John McClain reports the Texans have given Andre Johnson permission to seek a trade, and if one can't be found, he'll be released.
The Texans informed Johnson that he'll have a reduced role in 2015, and the soon-to-be 34-year-old has asked to be cut or traded. Houston will grant him his wish. We highly doubt any team will trade for Johnson, considering he's scheduled to earn base salaries of $10.5 million and $11 million the final two years of his contract. The Texans will clear $8.825 million against the cap by shedding Johnson's contract. The move will lock DeAndre Hopkins into the clear-cut No. 1 receiver role after he took another leap forward as a sophomore in 2014.

End of an era in Houston. As competitive as ever, bet he still can put up solid numbers but didnt seem to have that seperation ability last year as he's clearly lost a couple of steps. This has a Patriots type move written all over it.

way too much money for him and no one to throw the ball either. Could see them taking Parker or Beckham Green.

Can he be what Anquan Bolden has been in SF?

Because if he can I'd be all over him on this team.
No idea how much $$ he will command, but...

I think he would be a great fit. Big body, polished route runner, reliable third down guy. Perfect possession receiver to play across from a big play guy OBJ. Great character/locker room guy as well.

I think it would be good to add a pass catcher in FA and in the draft and Andre could be a solid target if his price tag is reasonable coming off a down year.
Highly skilled guy who is no longer an explosive athlete.

Not sure I'd go that direction, but he would be a nice move the chains guy for sure.

Talk about a complete 360 with respect to the locker room and off the field, I wonder if Houston knows what they are getting into.

With respect to the Giants and Johnson, the question is the money and the length of the contract he would want.
it's a shame

that Andre Johnson never had a great QB to play with. Schaub was very efficient for a few year stretch until injuries made him no longer a quality starting QB. But he was never a great QB, especially not on the deep ball. But every year, Andre Johnson produced. The guy is a monster and would have amazing numbers if he had a top QB.
Question is, was it the Houston QB's
Doomster : 3/3/2015 9:29 am : link
or is it Johnson? The lure of a ring is in NE....but how much of a pay cut is he willing to accept? They gave Ocho over 5M for just 15 catches his one season with them....think BB wants to be burned by a 34 year old receiver, again? Johnson would have to really take a huge cut to go there.....
Texans team doesn't have a QB.

Fitzgeralds production waned last year once Palmer and Stanton went down as well.

if the Giants make a solid attempt in FA to fix the OL, I could see his interest in NYFG.
He's get his Throw-Tos and OBJ and (hopefully) Cruz would open up the field for him.
Caveat: provided he really hasn't lost it, and the $$$.

Change of scenery would do him good; he has been a semi-persona non grata the last 2 years.
I could see him

going to the Redskins or Raiders for top dollars. It's a money grab for this guy. He will help them win a few, but he'll never sniff a championship. He's well aware he's in decline and this is his last contract probably.

Won't be drafted. Think Plaxico Burress is far from TC and JR's minds? Johnson would be a great fit with OBJ and if Cruz makes it make, Johnson is a perfect compliment.

IMO if Johnson wants a ring, he needs to go to (In No order)

The Giants, The Ravens, The Patriots, The Colts,
wonder how he would look

in NY Blue?
This has "Jets" written all over it....
kinard : 3/3/2015 2:41 pm : link
Jets were pining for him last year and now that the new GM has Texan connections and a lot of dough to spend... he'll be a Jet within a couple of weeks.

no way hell come here

He's mad he got squeezed out in Houston, you think he's gonna come to us and pray VC isn't ready to play otherwise likely be the 4th WR on the depth chart, he's going to a team with a scrub group of wide outs
