It has gotten a tremendous amount of fanfare since it happened and you see it all over top ten lists and social media. While it was an incredible catch, it doesn't excite me all that much...but the casual NFL highlight fan loves it. I associate that catch with a 3-7 team.
That is a play that will move the needle among today's sports fan. While a play below barely gets a second look among today's modern sports fan.

As to your point, I kind of agree. Great play but not important.
No shit. I was talking to a Seahawks friend of mine about this yesterday and he was like "didn't you guys lose that game" and I was like "yeah, that losing game was the highlight of our season"
depressing hahaha.
For me, it changed the complexion of the whole season. It made, or was the beginning of making, a 6-10 season into something which gave me hope for the future.
Some of Toomer's toe-tappers as he fell backwards to the sideline were super-skilled. Don't know of any receivers who could toe-tap better than Amani.
do you realize that people come to Giants stadium now and to practice -- just to try and see a repeat of that catch
OBJ is a bonafide top 5 star in the NFL now because of that catch - and he's ours
and we start out next season knowing we have an amazing threat on offense on every play he's out there for
See my post above.
I am convinced his being paired with Eli can propel the Giants to another championship in Eli's final few years.
I just have one concern though; I am hoping the hype doesn't go to ODB JR's head and warp his career. So far he has handled it well and for me his performance this season will go far toward answering my one question.
The highlight the OP posted bothers me in that I wish those guys would have stayed healthy and played together. Eli to Manningham was so good in that playoff run, and it had to be since defenses were taking Cruz and Nicks away. What a playoff run that was.
Rather than focusing on the catch being part of a dismal season, I look at it as the maturation of a dynamic superstar, who is a sign of bright things to come.
It's not an all time great catch because they lost?
That I do not understand. Him catching that pass and losing a game. I don't see a correlation
I'm not going to list everything out that I will remember but that catch would be one of them.
This.

That's why you get a financial planner, like all NFL players do.... :)
Normally I subscribe to the theory that nothing matters beyond the success of the football team as a whole, but this was such a polarizing moment that I can't help but be proud one of our guys was the culprit.
Same as Endy Chavez catch...
Nice catch, looks great on TV in a montage. But my team lost, so who cares?
Imagine Giants lost SB 42...wasnt that helmet catch great though?
Beckham's catch has nothing to do with that, but rather a display of insane athleticism and ability. One of the reasons we watch sports is to be dazzled by people doing things which we didn't think were possible. Even in sports, with these genetic freaks, we think we've seen it all until someone like Beckham arrives and does something that makes you question if what you saw actually happened.
Beckham's catch was further shot into another stratosphere because we haven't seen a career arc from Beckham because he was only a rookie who missed camp and the first four weeks and so he was still an unknown quantity. After seeing that catch, the world knew Beckham and are eagerly awaiting to see what he can do next.
