Reminder-tomorrow is the Auburn Pro Day

YANKEE28 : 3/2/2015 10:17 pm
I have written previously about Auburn running back Corey Grant. I think he is the perfect compliment to Jennings, Williams, and Darkwa.

Here is what Reese said at the Combine about losing David Wilson, "David was a fast, quick guy who could catch the ball out of the backfield and return kicks." “When you lose that dynamic type player, it stings a little bit, but it is football, and we will try to replace that position.”

Grant is a player that brings you to the edge of your seat every time he touches the ball-probably the fastest player in this years draft.

Grant was the change of pace for Tre Mason, and had almost 700 yards rushing, averaging over 9 yards per carry in 2013. He was expected to team with Cameron Artis Payne this past season, but it never materialized. Payne ended up with over 300 carries and Grant returned kickoffs, but finished with less than 400 yards rushing.

Grant is a well-spoken, intelligent, religious kid. Never criticized the coaches for not getting much playing time in his final season.

He is very well built at 5'10" and 205 pounds.

I mention tomorrow's Auburn Pro Day, because Grant was not invited to the Combine. Tomorrow is his day to show he deserves to be drafted on Day 3.

Expect a crazy time in the 40, and impressive numbers throughout.

I don't see Grant as an every down back. But with his speed, I think he would be a perfect addition to our backfield-the closest player available with David Wilson skills.

Nick Marshall at CB....top sleeper for me this year, that kid can play
In the video...

He looks smaller than the 5'10" 205lbs he's listed at.
Auburn has been pretty run-heavy, though Marshall threw more in 2014.

Grant caught a total of 14 passes in college, for 100 yards. If you're looking at him as a potential third-down back, the key questions involve his hands, his blocking, his vision and his grasp of the passing game. A sub-4.4 40 is sort of a given. His resume so far is more Da'Rel Scott than Darren Sproles.

ran a 4.18 on his first attempt.
his 2nd attempt
YANKEE28 : 3/3/2015 1:09 pm : link
2 scouts are saying 4.28 and 1 scout is saying 4.27. Regardless, he just proved he is the fastest player available in this years draft.

Earlier today, he benched the 225 22 times.

Add .1 seconds for pro day for times and a couple of guys at the combine are faster.

You did read that his first 40 was 4.18 ?
So the question becomes: Is he Chris Johnson...
Big Blue Blogger : 3/3/2015 3:04 pm : link
...or Da'Rel Scott? Or something else entirely? Is he a football player, or just a sprinter who looks good in pads?
The other numbers
YANKEE28 : 3/3/2015 4:42 pm : link
on Corey Grant.

10 foot 7 inch broad jump

37 inch vertical

Official Height 5' 11 inches

Official Weight 205 pounds

As I have said from my first post on Corey Grant, he finds himself standing out in 2013 (over 9 yards per carry), not playing much in 2014, and stuck in a draft filled with big name running backs, and an NFL Free Agency loaded with even more available running backs.

IMO, The Giants using a Day 3 pick represents great value. Great kid, great workout, great potential. The draft is a crap shoot, and I would be thrilled to see the Giants draft him.

on Corey Grant's weigh in yesterday.

His official height is 5'8 and 7/8 inches

His official weight is 201 pounds.
YANKEE28: Was there a time published for his 3-cone?
Big Blue Blogger : 3/4/2015 1:15 pm : link
I saw a comment on one board that he rounded off his last turn, but he was so fast that it didn't matter much.

One thing I remember about Da'Rel Scott: He ran the forty like a cheetah, and the 3-cone like a moderately agile linebacker. In his case, the drills were somewhat telling.
Does he return punts
blueblood : 3/4/2015 1:17 pm : link
thats all I care about..
blueblood: No, Quan Bray was their punt returner.
Big Blue Blogger : 3/4/2015 1:30 pm : link
Doesn't mean Grant can't do it, but at Auburn he only returned kicks.

Scott ran a 7.15 3-cone. That's not great for a guy with a sub 4.4 40, but it's not "moderately agile LB" numbers, either. More like a VERY agile LB...

The problem with Da'Rel Scott as a runner wasn't lack of agility per se, it was inability to break tackles and lack of great balance, something David Wilson had in spades, even more than he had raw speed...
