I live in Southern Mass and we have had it with this shit, Second coldest Feb ever in Mass, and over 100 inches in Feb, and it was 5 degree's today.

I really hope you are wrong weatherman, we could really use a break up hear, just had 6 inches Monday.

where and when TBD. An early heat wave combined with a major rain event would be potentially disastrous. As much as folks don't want to hear this, a slow, gradual melt is the best thing that could happen to the region.

GfiM - if SW MA you'll miss it, SE MA and you'll get the edge of the system, not max accumulations, but enough to plow for sure the closer to the SE coast of MA you get.

Weatherman....why do you feel that way on wx risk? He's been right as long as I've followed and he does a real good job of explaining the science and technical aspect to the layman. I can't think of a more accurate educational place for weather.

Hopefully this is the LAST snow storm of the season.

I much doubt it; some of the biggest accumulation snows have come in March as winter is sorting her way out. Probably before your time, but 1977 (I think it was) we had a 19" storm in mid-January and then the lollapalooza 23" in early to mid-March. These were Manhattan and NYC Metro area measurements.

After this weekend, my sense, my hope, is that we'll have seen the worst of the near- and sub-zero cold, as we're getting close to the equinox. But snows, I'd be willing to bet we'll have another two or three after tonight. fwiw, which ain't much.

The first storm was January 20 1978. I know that for a fact because my oldest picked that day to be born.

And I was thinking about this last night after dropping the wife off at JFK, and of course, you are right, it was 1978 not 1977, and a great omen for your oldest, blessings of blessings on him/her. I remember the period keenly, was insanely busy at work and school, went off with the girlfriend (man I was in love withher ass at the time) to Guadeloupe, and came back to that storm's craziness--NYC does not see that kind of accumulation very often. Then, BOOM, two months later, an even bigger one.

I came back to this thread after posting on today's regarding this storm: the accumulation reports way understate what we're getting here.
