If you like Amari Cooper....

Sy'56 : 3/3/2015 1:11 pm
Then you have to like USC's Nelson Agholor.

Agholor is a similar body, has similar athletic ability, similar skill sets when it comes to running routes and catching the ball, and similar production.

I've seen a lot of Agholor over the past week and I have my final grade on him, and he is in the first round and will likely finish as the 3rd or 4th WR in this class. Where he gets drafted, I'm not really sure. But if NYG misses out on a WR in round 1, Agholor could be a great round 2 option. He fits in well with the scheme and adds another reliable, versatile WR with some return ability as the icing on the cake.
I like him at #40
JonC : 3/3/2015 1:13 pm : link
like him better than Marquise Lee.
I think he's better
Sy'56 : 3/3/2015 1:17 pm : link
than both Lee and Woods. Two guys I liked.
I think that he would be a great pick

in round 2 or 3 if we do not go wr in rd 1.
Agreed....

This kid is flying under the radar. REminds me of Mohammed Sanu, a bit. I'd be happy with him in the late second, early third if we engineer a trade to pick up some other picks.
Interesting

I compared their combine results (usual caveats apply) and the only metric where Nelson compared with Cooper was in the 40 where they had the same times.

Cooper was elite in the 3 cone and the 20 yard shuttle whereas Nelson wasn't even in the top 15.

This isn't so much a knock on him as an athlete but on paper Cooper is more athletic. You put his college tape together with his combine results and it's obvious why he's going to be a top 10 pick.
so would you put him ahead of Strong
Hades07 : 3/3/2015 1:21 pm : link
Based on what I have been reading to this point it seems to be Cooper and White as the 1st or 2nd depending on preference. Parker 3rd, Strong 4th (I hope we grab Strong as I work with a friend of his) and Agholor 5th.
Watched some tape last night on him, he doesn't catch with his hands.
RAIN : 3/3/2015 1:22 pm : link
He's a gamer, but I don't think he offers anything over Randle, Washington,or Parker. In short, I don't think his talent is close to a second round grade, because at his size/speed he needs catching radius. To me, I have him in the third round or later.
thanks - so now he's on our radar.

Was inconsistent
Phil in LA : 3/3/2015 1:38 pm : link
whether that's a result of where the USC program has been during his tenure or whether it's a product of who he is, is unknown. Risky.
Phil, I thought he was the most consistent
barens : 3/3/2015 1:42 pm : link
offensive player for USC as the season went on. I kept thinking, with all of the talent USC has, they keep going back to Agholar, and he didn't disappoint.
How does anyone from USC

Right now I have Agholor and Strong a point apart...but I'm still trying to get another 3-4 looks at Strong. I've only seen him twice.
Question - after watching a highlight tape of him
Peter from NH (formerly CT) : 3/3/2015 1:58 pm : link
Does he run the route tree? Didn't see any outs or comebacks or anything other than pure speed moves. Obviously, he is very sudden in how he plays. However, everything I saw was a slant where he could just run past people. Obviously he has a great feel for the open field, but is he a guy that is just better than the college players? What I saw probably doesn't work in the pros.

Question is though - could he have done what cooper did on the SEC this year. The production in the best conf in football was unreal. Everyone tried to stop cooper but no one could.

He ran a full tree at USC

No. No. No.

I don't want to put Agholor and Cooper on the same level. He isn't.

But if you like how Cooper plays, Agholor has a similar game but a notch below across the board other than YAC toughness over the middle. But he isn't a top 10 guy...more like a top 30 guy

I got ya
SEC defenses
hitdog42 : 3/3/2015 2:15 pm : link
were terrible this year... so production in that conference is not really some massive accomplishment... this is not a throwback season of stout Ds

Still the best athletes in the country though.
Am I imagining it, or do all his big returns come on the same move?
Big Blue Blogger : 3/3/2015 2:55 pm : link
He pauses, reads, cuts across the field to his left and then accelerates up the sideline when he gets outside the containment. Good stuff, but I think it works in large part because he's a better athlete than anyone on the coverage team.
I see him more as a round 3 option
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 3/3/2015 3:04 pm : link
He's smooth and seems safe but id much rather draft Phillip Dorsett at #40. That guy is a stud. Deep threat who is capable of doing a lot more than just going deep. I hope Sinorice Moss doesn't scare us from taking Dorsett, two different players despite the size/school connection.
I'd be targeting WR help in Round 3 or 4
Torrag : 3/3/2015 3:05 pm : link
The priority should be to improve the defense if possible imo. It has been historically bad the last several seasons. Not by spending a ridiculous amount of valuable cap space on a player like Suh. Rather by adding young disruptive defenders through the draft.

Bolstering the offensive line and thereby improving our running game will also help the defense. The interior line play was particularly abysmal last season.

Those are the priorities with picks #9 and #40 imo. As things stand now. That may change once the dust settles from Free Agency.
#1 thing I take out of all this
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 3/3/2015 3:09 pm : link
Is how much you doubt Devante Parker as a prospect Sy. I don't think Agholor is even remotely close to Parker but you're clearly debating which one is #3.

Yes. I have discussed Parker a few times. I still like him...but I view him as a 2nd round prospect. He will likely be by #5 or #6 guy at the position.

I do think NYG will have a higher grade on him though.
I think Tyler Lockett
Peter from NH (formerly CT) : 3/3/2015 3:27 pm : link
Is going to be a very good pro. Moves well. Not just straight line fast.

Every time I hear someone say flying under the radar I think of Frank caliendo impersonating Mel Kiper "Seattle coffee, flyyying under the radar, lotta upside"

Reale01 : 3/3/2015 4:39 pm : link
He looked very smooth in the drills. Also like Dorsett a lot, much better hands than advertised.
Needs and wants?
chiefmps : 3/3/2015 4:42 pm : link
The good news is that the Giants can go into the fifth round and get a wide receiver but there are only two players that can be day one starters for the Giants at the defensive tackle spot. So I hope that the Giants decide to work on one of the worse defensive in the NFL and draft a DT with the first pick and hope to get a good receiver later in the draft. Any receiver that the Giants draft will be a backup if Cruz is healthy next season, so why draft a receiver so early? The key is Cruz!
Very
AcidTest : 3/3/2015 5:13 pm : link
nice player. Nice hands and YAC ability. Has some wiggle and "make you miss" traits. Starts and stops very well. Good route runner, and decent downfield speed. Also a very good PR.

But limited by his size. 6'0", and about 200 I think. Might therefore have problems getting off the LOS in the NFL as an outside receiver, so could be limited to the slot. Seems like he'd do well in a WC offense.

Not a first round player IMO. Second round, but I'd be OK with him at #40.

Another "red chip" player in a "red chip" draft.

Lockett's getting a little lost in the shuffle but when the dust settles he's going to end up as one of the top sleepers in this draft. One of the best route runners and toughest covers in this WR group.
