@AdamSchefter: Filed to ESPN: Bills have notified LB Kiko Alonso he is going to be traded to Philadelphia for RB LeSean McCoy. Trade official next week.
when you wonder if the front office of teams know more than we do and we will end up looking back and seeing why they made a move and it pays off. This isn't one of those times. This is 100% Chip Kelly thinking his system allows for him to plug and play any running back and he doesn't need to pay that much for the production that McCoy gives. McCoy was a nightmare for the Giants. I can't wait for Kelly to give up the farm for Mariotta and have that whole thing implode.
Exactly! Let's hope he gives up a skins type haul to move up to get him. Put the iggles in limbo for the next 4 years...

Updated: Kiko Alonso has 2 years left on contract at $746,000 and $942,000. LeSean McCoy has 3 years left at $10.25M, $6.9M and $7.6M.
LOL! he's got his Buffalo Bills decked out truck, he's wearing a Thurman Thomas Jersey, now all he has to do is get Sanchez to come to Buffalo, and he'll be in maturbitory heaven!
Let an aging, expensive RB go before he starts to decline, and get a young, cheap, talented MLB on the rise.
But to make it really work, they've got to put the cap space generated to good use. With a question mark at QB, and with no McCoy, that offense doesn't have much in the way of identity outside of Chip himself. (Sproles is great, but he's a part-time player.)
RE: On-balance, it's probably smart for the Eagles.

I would have agreed with you, but 26 is not aging. He is also under contract for 3 more years, which means the Bills can part with him before he is 30.
They always get rid of guys at the right time. I had McCoy on my fantasy team this past season. He wan ENORMOUS disappointment.
RBs breakdown and slide from excellence into mediocrity in the blink of an eye, and from mediocrity into decrepitude just as quickly. My guess is that McCoy is pretty much done as a feature back, and that's why the Eagles are dumping him.
fact that the draft is seen as very deep at the running back position probably factors into this move. A little while ago, Clayton stated in his updates that the depth of running backs in the draft was going to affect the running back free agent market. I think this is proof of that
Is he probably not the same player as two years ago? Sure probably, but you can make the argument that a new system could benefit him. One with a lead blocker perhaps and lest shotgun formation runs.
I'm not ready to close the door on McCoy yet.

He was 3rd in the league in rushing yards.
He had a down year compared to previous years. But he's absolutely still a feature back in this league.

Few things.
McCoy has some mileage, but is 26. He has 2-3 great years left. He has little injury history. For that, he's worth the price.
As for Alonso, dude has a big injury history and only has one season accrued in the league. You and I have zero ability to see how he'll be. He could be great. He also could be a non-factor and another over-hyped division rivlal people always tend to do when they acquire them.

Chip Kelly, settling all family business. MT @spotrac: Eagles cleared $30.275M w/release of Casey/Williams/Herremans/Cole & trade of McCoy.
Said but u less they Land a guy like Suh why? they are fucked. That offense will fall apart without him. Arrogance on full dispy. Hope he trades his whole draft for Mariotta now.
I'd be happy to move on from McCoy if I were an Eagle fan, but trading him for an Oregon guy would worry me. Mariotta may not be far behind.
If Oregon is too soft to compete with the very best in college football, why would they be tough enough for the NFL? Kelly is very smart and a really good coach, but he may be flying too close to the sun here.

he seems like he's going all in on Oregon, Mariota is likely on his way. This is going to be a fascinating off-season when it comes to the Eagles/Kelly.

I agree with the philosophy of getting out a year early than a year late, but the guy is only 26 and doesn't have very much tread - also has no injury history to speak of. He has 2-3 of top production left, easily...
Then again if the target is Suh, that wouldn't be awesome
But regarding Mariotta, I don't often feel this strongly about a college QB...he stinks. He's mobile, but his throwing reminds me so much of Matt Leinart it's scary. In both college playoff games he didn't make a single NFL throw. I don't see an NFL starter there.
I wonder if his plan is to accumulate as much cap room as possible to supplement the loss of premium picks its going to take to move up to get Mariota. Then go on a speeding spree on young 2nd contract free agents.
a salary dump. McCoy right now is a better player than Alonso, but the Eagles want to dump his salary. The Bills have also apparently told Spiller he won't be back.
he had the toe (??) injury at the end of preseason and struggled the first 4 games. The last 12, he averaged ~95 yards/game and he's only had 3 seasons with over 300 touches (1 with over 350), which is fairly low wear and tear.
saying it came down to Shady buying in.. Man people ripped Coughlin about his tough training camps and everything. Amazing what Kelly is doing in Philly. He won a power struggle in a stare down. Now he has full control and is purging the team of personalities.
No more Cole, Jackson and now Shady, I would be VERY impressed if he can continue to purge the team, and add his type of players, and still be successful next season and following seasons.
He has been in hiding for weeks not speaking to the press. Well tonight, he is speaking at the Katz JCC in Cherry Hill, NJ. G. Cobb, ex linebacker for the Eagles, is a moderator. Ought to be interesting to hear philly radio tomorrow.
Eric, of course that means we're going to the super bowl :)

But "just a QB away" has been Rex Ryan's mantra since day 1.

True, but at least Giants have to face him only once this year. And won't have to again for another 4 years...

What's this Eagle team done in the playoffs?
My first thought was what would he give for Paysinger, too. Can't hurt to ask?

Now he's got to pass concussion protocol too after hitting the wall in practice.
Too bad Sanchize is probably the best free agent QB.
Good. I don't believe like Kelly apparently does that playmaker can be manufactured in the NFL through the system.
I think the Eagles are a whole lot less scary than they were when he took over
No more Cole, Jackson and now Shady, I would be VERY impressed if he can continue to purge the team, and add his type of players, and still be successful next season and following seasons.
Per spotrac, Eagles now have $48.6 million under the salary cap. Hmmm....
When did the Eagles dump Maclin???
Where's Suh fit in a 3-4?
