is that I read yesterday in local Boston news that McCourty now considers Boston home (according to his brother at least).

Devin said last month that he'll listen to his brother's recruiting pitch. Jason said it will be hard to get Devin out of New England because "he feels like that's home. I think that's where he'll want to play his entire career.
Saying anything negative about any team limits your options.
I like him and would love the Giants to sign him, but I'll be surprised if they do.
that the overwhelming majority of free agent players sign with the team who offers them the most money.
It's not some mystery, if they don't re-sign with their original team (who is sometimes also the team who offers the most money) I'd wager it's a high 90 percent the player signs with the team who offers the most.
Can anyone provide examples of when a player says "it was the right fit for my family" or "the scheme was perfect" or "I want to win first and foremost" or whatever they say it aligned with them accepting less money to sign with that team?
Both won 2 super bowls and wanted their paychecks. I don't blame him for wanting more money
I don't blame them either, but you just made my point for me. The vast majority of FAs follow the money -- as they should, given their limited time in the game to cash in. If the money is comparable, they also weigh the situation.
My original post was more about the inane nature of the original headline that a FA is "open to the possibility" of playing somewhere else. Shocking. News at 11. This just in -- in a breaking story: Night to follow Day.

Those roster bonuses are coming due on quite a few of their players.....they are almost 13M over the cap......McCourty, Revis, Solder, Browner, Wilfork, just to name a few......no way they honor these contracts or have enough money for McCourty....chances are Revis, Wilfork, Browner will be cut, and then the Pats will try to resign them at a lower pay scale....
McCourty will be offered more than he is worth, by someone....just hope it isn't the Giants....they overpaid for Rolle and didn't get what they paid for him...

Tom Brady and (Soon) Eli Manning.
Big difference between Brady and Eli who have made hundreds of millions, and a guy coming off his rookie contract...."Show me the money".....

Suh Deserves 80+ mill. Odell will want alot of money. They deserve it.
Like the Giants the Colts need two safeties as well
And they have 45 million in cap room...that doesn't mean the Giants can't sign McCourty...but the price will be high enough that he will be "the" FA signing.
Cullen Jenkins might have netted more $$$ by making NYG cut him.
He had made a commitment to his wife and daughters that they would stay put through high school. Jenkins is no Tom Brady in terms of net worth, but he's had a long, lucrative career and can afford to leave a little money on the table in his final year or two.

...Rolle is a weird choice. He served out his full five-year contract and started every game. I think that's a reasonable yardstick for a successful signing. He was also a key leader on a championship team, which sets him apart even from most good signings. Was he paid a crazy amount of money? Sure. Was he a perfect player for all that money? No, but I think he was pretty much what Jerry Reese though he was getting in 2010. Did his play decline in 2014? Absolutely. Now, does anyone think the Giants could have landed him for less, or that a better, cheaper alternative was available?
he is a little disappointed about not getting the tag, and that with 2 shutdowns already in DR and BB, and the cheap re-signing of Chung, it may be NEP figure they can plug'nplay another but cheaper player into their historically successful 'system'.
Signing McCourty sounds a lot like when we added Rolle

Well now we know he'll be a giant ;)
Kidding aside. The way Tom & Jerry think, that could very well be what motivates them to throw enough extra cash at him to get it done.
He went to the pro-bowl as a rookie, and was 2nd team all-pro.
The switch to safety saved his career.
Because he has his ring and now wants his check?
Jets had more cap space(along with other teams) than the Giants. DRC went to the Giants. Stop thinking its all about the money for these guys.
Obviously it's not always about money ONLY, but Justin Tuck and Osi are no longer Giants either. I'm sure Tuck was just dying to play for the Raiders.

Come up with something else.

Strongly disagree..They most certainly did
