NGT: Good McGinn analysis of Cobb's situation in GB/FA

Defenderdawg : 3/4/2015 9:48 am
Several Teams with $$$ to spend or waste depending on POV...I think for example the Giants desperately need safeties but other teams are going to spend ridiculous amounts on the few quality players out there...

"Jacksonville is expected to be all over Cobb. The Jaguars are $69.3 million beneath the top-51 salary cap, giving them the most room of any team. They need a dynamic threat inside for young quarterback Blake Bortles, and coach Gus Bradley also is represented by Sexton. So was defensive end Red Bryant, a run-stopping presence of interest to the Packers last March who signed with Jacksonville.

Oakland, with the second-most top-51 cap space at $56.6 million, also is ready to enter the Cobb sweepstakes, according to sources. Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie helped draft Cobb for Green Bay in the second round four years ago and wants to reunite him with steady James Jones.

Kansas City is over the cap, but another ex-Packers personnel director, GM John Dorsey, is prepared to create space and might attempt to make a run at Cobb as well."

"Some personnel people are convinced the market for Cobb will be between $9 million and $10 million, but they're often conservative this time of year. It wouldn't be shocking, given the number of clubs flush with cap space, to see a five-year deal for Cobb averaging $12 million, perhaps even $13 million with guarantees well in excess of $30 million."

while they certainly aren't of Cobb's status

Jax does have decent young WR depth with Robinson, Lee, & Hurns. Blackmon is also expected to return. The guy was the #5 pick in 2012. Wouldn't be shocked to see Jax go after him, but I don't expect it. IMO.
I like Cobb

but I wouldn't give him that kind of money. He won't equal the production he put up in GB anywhere else.
I agree with GL,

with all of Jax needs, blowing a wad of their cap on Cobb makes no sense. Oakland, on the other hand...
Maybe Cobb

wants to win, and have the opportunity to 'increase his brand', if any, in the NY market.
Playing opposite OBJ and VC will help him get the ball with likely double coverage on OBJ.
And, such as it was, the Mc-GB history.
